Email notifications are free. To do text notifications, we'd need a text gateway - which means that we'd have to pay per text message.

The Inn is not profitable, it's a hobby. Unless and until it starts bringing in revenue, I just can't justify paying more foor cool features like this one.

Opening post sneak peek:

"The world had ended. There were zombies everywhere. Zombies are people who used to be dead, but now run around and try to eat people. You know, real people who are still alive and stuff.

Most people just don't like zombies."

There ya go. Hope you are happy.

Topic: Freedom of Speech and the Inn?
Subject: Freedom of Speech and the Inn?

A couple of times lately, we (the staff) have had to step in and either kill threads or have discussions with their authors.

I've been called names over this, I've had people object, and I've had the first amendment (freedom of speech) thrown in in my face.

For the record, folks, the Red Dragon Inn is a private institution. You are, in essence, guests in my virtual home. Just as with my physical home, I get to set the rules of conduct that my guests must abide by.

Understand, I do NOT want to be the speech police. I try to hold you all to Wheaton's Law (look it up if you are not familiar with it - it's a great policy for life in general).

If you want the specifics, though, please check out the Terms of Service. Note that you agreed to these when you joined the Inn, and that every single page on these forums has a link back to the TOS, and points out that using the forums means that you agree to follow the rules.

Topic: Brewing my own beer...
Subject: well

Homebrew isn't where I would start, unless you already knw somebody who brews. If you want to expand your beer horizons, go and see if you can run down some commercially produced craft beer.

Understand, there is a LOT of variance within beer - check out this beer style guide. Most US beer is "American Light Lager", but there are MANY more types. I'm personally partial to English and Belgian ales.

Our local Publix grocery stores have a great thing going - you can build your own six pack of beer for a flat rate of $9.99, and put almost anything that they stock in it. This gives a superb chance to try different styles. Some higher end package stores will do the same type of thing. That way, you don't get stuck with a lot of beer that may not appeal to you.

Also, note that when drinking beer, don't just pop the top and drink from the bottle. Take a glass (beer glasses are best, but any glass will do), make sure it is REALLY rinsed out (detergent residue kills the bubbles in beer), and pour the beer into it.

Beer in a glass allows you to get the aroma from the beer (you will smell grain and yeast, then depending on the hops used, you might smell grass, fruit, or a host of other scents). The smell helps increase the taste (if you don't believe me, hold your nose while eating sometime).

Also note that most beer is a little better when served a bit warmer than typical fridge temperatures - ice cold is for beer that lacks flavor.

I was like you, Kriea. I knew that I hated the typical Bud/Miller/Coors stuff, and assumed that meant that I just didn't like beer.

As it turns out, I simply don't like beer with little flavor. Now, understand, I don't drink much - two beers in a weekend is the most I typically do - but I absolutely enjoy the flavor and aroma of a good English brown or Belgian strong ale.

Topic: Brewing my own beer...
Subject: beer swap

I had a guy who had read my blog contact me to do a beer swap. He's more experienced than me, so he traded me an entire six pack (no duplicates, all different varities) of his brew for one bottle of mine.

Of course, the point is to give each other honest feedback... but yay me for free beer!

Sorry that you feel that way. Your thread was removed because it falls under one, perhaps two, areas that we don't do at the Inn.

As I stated to you, I personally agree with your original position. That being said, we still don't do those sorts of threads at the Inn. This is absolutely nthing personal - had Alacrity posted it, it would have been likewise removed.

Also, we try to minimize drama. This thread is now locked.

Gentle reminder time:

I don't expect novellas. I don't need deep emotonal revelations.

I would like a couple of short paragraphs per post, please. Let me know what your character is thinking/feeling.

It doesn't have to be elaborate, but try to give me more than one sentence. Forum games are collaborative writing, after all - so try to make your posts fun to read.

If you can come to accept the fact that most zombie films end in everyone dying - and so, our game will probably end that way, as well - you can move past that and get to enjoying the survival while it lasts.

I recall those days. My mother HATED D&D, and didn't want me involved... my dad overruled her, would even sometimes take me to buy books, figuring that D&D was better than me hanging out and getting high with my friends.

I have never touched an illicit drug in my life.

I recall that it took a long time for my wife to be accepting of D&D... she'd been fed these lies, and had a very negative impression.

Subject: back in action

The Computer continues with its efficiency as Brighte-R-NNU-2 and Amppe-R-AGE-2 are activated, force-marched into secret corridors, and sent on their way. Less than ten minutes after the "stand by" notice is given, a previously undetected door opens in a side wall, and the replacement clones step out, glancing nervously over their shoulders at their Vulture Squad escorts. The hidden door slides back into place, and once again, SWR sector is empty save Team MAO-17859 Dot R-2.

A glance at your surroundings reveals a very dimly lit maze of corridors and pipes. Every junction is labelled numerically - but the labels appear to not be in any particular order. To confound things even more, quite a few of the numbered junctions contain letters and/or odd symbols mixed in with the numbers, which seem to only confuse the issue further.

A few momets after the replacement clones arrive, the blast door that seperated the team from the defense turret also slides shut - pitching you into darkness.

Sadly, no one is carrying a flashlight; surely, these will be distributed among the standard mission gear (which you have yet to receive). Ah, the fun of life in Alpha Complex...
