Lana stiffened even as Ziv looked to accept the restraints, and a wild look momentrily passed over her features. The young techie wondered if she would try something foolish, but apparently the sight of four heavily armed soliders was enough to make her thnk sensibly. With a sigh, she too surrendered.

Once the two engineers were under control, the red-haired soldier keyed his commlink. "Shadoran here, reporting engine room secured." He paused for a moment, receiving a reply, then nodded. "Understood. We're on our way."

He looked at his squad. "Turvin, Julls, commnder says for you two to say here and get this tub moving. We'll take these two amindships with the rest of 'em." After getting an affirmative, he and the other soldier led their captives amidships to the passenger berths.

Let's go beyod the nameless barkeep that you know not to mess with, the umpteenth inept town guardsman that you likewsie know that your prty could defeat using a collection of plush animals, or the one-track villain that your six year old could outwit.

Has your DM/GM ever included a really memorable NPC in one of your adventures? It can be a recurring character, or simply a one-shot deal that was so funny/bizzare/remarkable that you still talk about them to this day.

Tell us about them, and what made them memorable - over-the-top accents, vivid descriptions, crazy actions, or something else entirely?

Yes, the red-haired soldier is actually in the engine room. Yes, they intend to fastem you with wrist restraints and lead you to the common area of the passenger berth.

The sergeant is not too pleased to explain himself to a civillian, but he does anyway. "On charges of illegal spice distribution," he states. "Now I repeat, return to the passenger berth."

As far as Caise can tell, the sarge is upfront about his statement - no apparent hidden motives.

The standard comlink has an effective range out to orbit, depending on the current LOS between ship and planet surface. Planets with advanced communiction nets can icrease this to cover the "dark side", as well.

Most deep space vessels (and certainly mny major planetside installations) have communications equipment capable of communicating truly vast distances either in audio or holo modes.

As for telepathy, I don't see this being a viable option for now. I'll have to look into it further to see if two of Trask's skill could even do it, but I am sure that the padawan cannot.

Passengers aboard the Kul Kura have been ordered to move to the main passenger berth, where they will be watched by armed guards. Crew members have been placed under arrest; they will also be moved to the passenger berth, but in restraints.

I have assumed nothing. If you wish to start shooting (you'll never take me alive, coppers!), that's up to you.

Raven - in case you didn't know it, the red-haired soldier is you.

Captain Dulo paled at the order and started to sputter a protest, then hung his head. His lack of denial was confession enough for the bridge crew (many of which were likely implicated), and the lack of effetive weaponry on the Kul Kura ensured that there would be no real struggle.

The bulky DR-400 pulled alongside the Kul Kura at matched both velocity and trajectory before sending across a boarding tube. Captain Dulo waved his hand in a defeated motion, signaling that the airlock be opened, and moments later, a platoon of uniformed TDF forces poured into the Duro vessel.

*****************************

Caise had almost reached the bridge when the a squad of soldiers passed him. The leader, a human male in his early thirties, pointed at the jedi. "You there," he ordered, "return to the passenger berth. This vessel has been lawfully seized by the TDF, and will be taken to Tanaab for processing.

Even as they spoke, the hatch to the bridge opened, revealing the crew being placed under arrest. Tebbo, the pilot, was slumped on the ground, his hands covering his face; apparently, he had not complied quickly enough and had gotten the butt of a blaster rifle for his trouble, judging by the soldier standing over him.

**********************

The red-haired human soldier watched impassively as the engineering crew were notified that they, too, were under arrest for suspicion of conspiracy to distribute spice in league with Captain Dulo. Honestly, he couldn't care less about them; he would have much preferred to be on the bridge itself - the bounty on Dulo's head was more than enough to get him back into the good life. Unfortunately, his connection had only been good enough to get him placed as a trooper on Commander Albari's ship - not good enough to allow him to pick his area of deployment.

So, he would have to bide his time. And hope that the locals would be satisfied enough with the spice to look the other way...

For those who don't care to read a long document written in quasi-legalize, here's is the gist of our TOS: follow Wheaton's Law. If you are familiar with that law, you can probably handle yourself just fine here at the Inn.

If you want to read the actual specifics, however, they are recorded here for your benefit:

You agree, through your use of these forums and/or chatrooms, that you will not post any material which is false, defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise in violation of any law. This is not only not humorous, but legal actions can be taken against you. You also agree not to post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or you have consent from the owner of the copyrighted material. Anyone who feels that a posted message is objectionable is encouraged to notify a moderator of this forum immediately. We have the right to remove objectionable content as time allows, if we determine that removal is necessary. This is a manual process, however, so please realize that we may not be able to remove or edit particular messages immediately.

You remain solely responsible for the content of your messages, and you agree to indemnify and hold harmless this website, its owner, moderators, and any other staff of the Red Dragon Inn. We at this website also reserve the right to reveal your identity (or any information we have about you) in the event of a complaint or legal action arising from any information posted by you, in any format that we see fit.

You have the ability, as you register, to choose your username. We advise that you keep the name appropriate. Furthermore, please note that staff members of this site can actively observe any chat session, even those that occur in "private", password-protected rooms. While it is not our policy to read private messages, this can be unavoidable; keep this in mind when you chat.

Fluff posting will be tolerated in the general forums areas. Otherwise, this is a RPG website only. Fluff posts will be deleted and the user will be warned. Multiple violations of this policy will result in a permament ban on the user/member.

The Red Dragon Inn practices a "one warning" policy. In other words, anyone violating this TOS agreement will receive one verbal or written warning. After that, the offending user will be banned, either on a temporary or permanent basis, at the sole discretion of this website. To be reinstated, the user must email the website administrator and ask to be reinstated, as well as promise to cease and desist any violations of this TOS agreement. However, the staff of this website reserves the right to immediately ban an offending user, with or without warning, as circumstances dictate. If you have a question about a ban, feel free to contact the website administrator, but understand that his decisions are final.

To clarify fluff posting:

Posts not staying on topic are considered fluff, endless posts about nothing to do with any of the forums are considered fluff. Posts in a chat-like demeanor are considered fluff; that is why the Red Dragon Inn has a chat room.

Rdinn.com has the right to delete or modify any post or topic deemed unecesssary or considered fluff. We also reserve the right to delete topics that are inactive for more than thirty days. We further reserve the right to change the rules, as we see fit, to the benefit of the Red Dragon Inn community, at any time, without warning. We put these rules here for members to read before they post; these rules are to protect the user as well as Rdinn.com, its staff, its partners, and others involved with the site as well.

Advertising for other sites is allowed only when the webmaster contacts the webmaster of Rdinn.com and the Rdinn.com webmaster agrees to it. We don't mind if you post links to other sites - however, please do not post banners or other gratuitous advertisement. Violaters will have their posts deleted and their accounts banned.

On chatroom policies:

It is understood that these general guidelines are meant to ensure a nonthreatening, enjoyable atmosphere in both message forums and chatrooms, and all users should comport themselves accordingly. However, the following nonexclusive list of behaviors are considered to be innapropriate, even if they do not necessarily violate the above standards of obscenity, harassment, etc.:

Posting exclusively "in character" or gaming in a non-gaming room (i.e., the common room). Please use an appropriate gaming room for this, or feel free to create your own room.

Abuse of chatroom "smilies" - i.e., posting entire messages comprised of nothing more than smiley emoticons.

Impersonating a staff member or other user, by means of intentionally logging into a chat room under that individual's username, with the purpose of deceiving others as to your true identity.

Following other chatters from room to room, or sending excessive private messages, when said party has expressed a desire for such behavior to cease.

Excessive melodrama.

Any other behavior that would be normally considered as offensive by (a) the majority of those in attendence of the current chatroom, (b) any member of the staff of this website, or (c) any reasonable person, as defined by this website's staff.

We reserve the right to modify this TOS at any time, with or without public notification. Any questions about this agreement should be directed to the website administrator. Use of these message boards or chatrooms indicates your acceptance of these terms and conditions.

Lana and Ziv might have a general idea of the tactical situation, but no real specifics when it starts to get hairy (who would tell them?). Likewise, I don't think they would hear the conversations.

Lana is older than Ziv, probably 25 or so. Reasonably attractive.

Sure, use the NPC. I didn't have any designs for her to be very detailed, so this is fine.

At present game date, Tanaab is crently an agricultural world. There are some stretches of jungle - perhaps it will overgrow to cover the world, requiring terrforming in the future?

Please do note, however, that "my" Star Wars worlds are not quite as homogenous as Lucas seems to portray. Look at earth - we have desert, jungle, grassland, mountains, oceans, swamps, and on and on.

Most Lucas worlds have ONE trait, and that's it.

Horse pucky!

So while there are worlds that fit this mold (Kashyyk, Onderon, some of the city-worlds), others may be KNOWN for a given trait, but they are still WORLDS - so expect to see some diversity.

Feel free to post now. You are all introed, save Raven's character, who will come onstage shortly.

Mercury and Ziv are onboard the Kul Kura as crew. Neither of them are aware that Dulo has a business beyond transporting passengers.

Dime and Caise are both lawful passengers on the vessel itself - Dime has business on Tanaab (Admiral, feel free to work this into your character bckground - it would be along his normal line of work - or I can do it). Caise is here to meet with a colleague of his master on the planet; though Tanaab has very little in the way of useful resources, the world does have mines that yield the occasional agadan crystal, useful in lightsaber construction.

Topic: Star Wars: The Tides of Fate
Subject: time for a (boarding) party

From his place on the Kul Kura's bridge, Mercury watched the dark gray viewscreen of hyperspace transition first to glowing rivlets of light before settling into a familiar starscape. His time aboard the Duro vessel had given him this experience a few times already, but so far, it had yet to grow old. This time, he had been allowed to sit at the promary sensor station as they arrived in system, and was feeling very important.

He glanced down at his terminal. "All clear, cap... wait." the young man bit off his routine report. "Captain, there's another vessel very near and closing fast!"

Duros do not possess facial features capable of expressions readable by most other humanoids, so it was impossible to read the look on Captain Dulo's face. Even so, there was no mistaking the tension in his voice. "Increase speed," he ordered. "Get us to the planet!"

The Tanaab system was a backwater inner rim world with few resources, one that the republic just didn't see necessary to divert much military power to. As a result, pirate raids and such were common. Everyone on the bridge knew this fact, and the tension level on the bridge grew quickly.

Unfortunately, the Kul Kura was a transport vessel, lightly armed and not overly maneuverable. The chances of reaching the relative safety of the planet itself was not overly high, and everyone knew it. Still, they wouldn't just sit here and hope for the mercy of these marauders. As confirmtion of their intent the other vessel fired a warning shot off to port.

They were not yet in range, but at the rate of closing, it wouldn't be long.

"Full power!" the transport's commanding officer odered. "Try to raise communications with Tanaab's defnese fleet." He keyed the intercom to the engine room. "Get me as much power as you can spare!" he barked.

Another Duro activated a distress signal, and the civilian crew hurried to obey the captain's wishes. The Duro, a male by the name of Kola, looked up a moment later. "Captain," he reported, "they are asking to speak with you."

One of the viewscreens flared to life to review a nasty-looking human with a bdly scarred face. "Dulo," he spoke, "Pulda the Hutt sends his regards. He is not happy to see that you did not accept his offer concerning your sideline spice business. He will, however, take your ship and your life as payment."

Chcukling, the man cut the comm feed.

******************

In the engine room, a goggled human male suggested minor alterations. "Damnit, Ziv, I don't have time for this!" scowled Lana, the Kul Kura's chief engineer, mechanic, and mistress of odd jobs.

"Lana, I know, but if you bypass these relays," he indicated them. "you'll get a little more power for the next ten minutes or so."

"And burn them out!" she retorted angrily.

"And maybe stay alive longer," Ziv answered with a grin.

Lana blew out her breath, momentarily moving her bangs out of her eyes, but nodded. "Do it."

********************

In the main passenger berths sat a quiet, introspective man. While he may not have noticed the subtle increase n the engines' hum, and certainly did not feel the added speed, he had been aware of the crew's anxiety for several minutes now. There came The slightest sound of a footstep, and he turned to face another passenger.

The blue-skinned twi'lek started slightly at the blind man's quick reaction - for surely he was blind. Dime had met this man several times during the passage, and had never seen him remove the scarf that covered where a human's eyes should be. Even so, the man always seemd to know exactly where he and everything else round him was.

"The crew is nervous," the blind man stated calmly.

"They should be," the twi'lek responded. "Looks like a pirate vessel is chasing us; they're trying to make it to Tanaab before they catch us."

If the blind man felt any concern, he did not show it.

Instead, he merely nodded. "That would explain it, then."

********************

Ziv's idea has worked, and for a few minutes, they not only held the distance between the two ships, but even increaed the gap. The crew bgan to allow themselves to hope that they would escape.

And then, the relays blew, smoke filled the engine room, and the engines stopped functioning.

"Damn you to the foulest hells, Ziv!" Lana screamed as she struggled to get the engines operational once more.

"I knew I shouldn't have listened to you!" He paled, but before he could respond, the ship rocked with the impact of a lucky shot.

It wouldn't matter much longer.

********************

Just as Captain Dulo was preparing to surrender, three new blips appered on the sensor screen. "Three more vessels," Mercury reported with a dry mouth, "one medium duty DR-400, two AT-150 fighters." Old, but serviceable.

The comm channel sparked to life. "This is Commander Albari of the Tanaab defense fleet. Both vessels, you are ordered to hold your positions!"

The Kul Kura, lacking the ability to disobey, complied; shockingly, so did the incoming pirate ship.

Almost as shocking, however, was the next transmission from the TDF. "Captain Dulo, you are hereby under arrest for illegal distribution of spice, intended distributon of spice, unlawful possession of spice, and arms smuggling. Prepare to be boarded."

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away...

STAR WARS

~THE TIDES OF FATE~

It is more than five centuries prior to the birth of the one prophesized to bring balance to the Force. The Old Republic, grown fat and comfortable after a long period of peace, totters on the brink of civil war. Some senators, full of idealistic zeal, call for change, only to find themselves branded as radical seperatists. Less scrupulous individuals, seeing the opportunity to advance their own positions, back these so-called seperatists, and heavy rhetoric fills the air. The Senate is ineffective, crushed beneath its own weight, as enemies both without and within plot to remake the Republic in their own image.

Conflict has broken out between seperatist and loyalist forces, but to date, these conflicts have been mainly isolated skirmishes restricted to the outer rim. Even so, tensions run higher than ever before, and it seems but a matter of time before concrete battle lines are drawn, sides are chosen, and full scale war begins.

Meanwhile, the Duro passenger vessel Kul Kura makes her way toward an inner rim world carrying not only passengers, but a secret cache of illegal spice. Thom Dulo, the captain, is cunning and successful at what he does, but this is the day that his misdeeds finally catch up to him...

I'm looking for 3-5 total players; I think that four would be an ideal number. I already have a a jedi padawan, and I don't really see two in the party, so lets look to other avenues for your character concepts, please. We also have a soldier already.

Furthermore, there are a couple of existig characters that you may wish to simply assume - however, please feel free to bring in a new idea, if you like.

All races from the core rulebook are available, as are those from the UAA, subject to a case by case approval. (I won't rule out four armed aliens, but you'll need a good backstory and a reason besids the extra attacks you might get to persuade me to put up with it).

The setting is approximately five hundred years before the birth of the one who will bring balance to the Force - i.e. Anakin Skywalker. The jedi are numerous and influential, at the height of their glory in the Republic.

Naturally, though, there are forces that seek to undermine this...

Be forewarned! I consider myself to be a reasonably knowledgeable fan - I know the movies well, and am reasonably familiar with the various sourcebooks for the RPG. However, I am not at all versed in the expanded universe or the various SW novels. As a result, this is "my" Star Wars universe. While there won't be any major changes from canon, I may not line up with some of the more "off the beaten" path SW details. Deal with it.

To be consdiered, you need a character concept emailed to me, along with at least a brief backstory. Characters will all be level 1. If you need help withthe rules, I will be glad to assist you.. you don't need to know the game, just be enthusiastic and active.

What else can I tell you?

May the Force be with you...
