Topic: Star Wars: The Tides of Fate Recruitment Subject: needing players once more!
As you can see, this game has been idle for months. However, our resident padawan has expressed a desire to continue the game, as has our red-haired mercenary soldier... so we're on again.
Note: if you currently have a character in this game and would still like to play, let me know. If you are NOT currently in the game, feel free to create any non-jedi sort of character and lay 'em on me!

I love it when I get to sit in long meetings discussing when we should schedule the next meeting so that we can talk about determining a timeframe for when things should be done.

I am replacing Addy and Ryst, and will try to get a post of my own up in the meantime. I would like some idea of what the replacement characters look like, though.

That is correct. I decided that a color for each TYPE of rules-based game would be too much - if you see a red dot, you know it's a rules-based game. That's enough.
However, I think that there's enough of a difference in recruitment threads, Q&As, and general chitchat to warrant differing colors for them, even though they are all in the same overall forum.

Brianna, feel free to make your character female. If you'd take the mage position, I'd be so very pleased.
YeOlde, go ahead and gobble up the cleric spot. You'll need to pick an Audalisian deity - if you need help with this, PM me. Or you can go druid, if you'd rather.
Both of ya: get me a concept as soon as you can, we'll iron out character sheet details as we go. The big thing is, we need to get this derailed game running!

...and just for coolness' sake, if you hover your mouse over the colored dot beside a shortened title name in the header, you'll see the entire title name.
It's the little touches...

Thanks for the input, folks.
The color code is visible on the main forum page, as well as on a given forum (general, rules-based RPG, free form, etc) page - note the colored dots beside each category name.

I'm still making images, so I will post the colors when they are decided.

Topic: RDINN Feature Updates/ Suggestions/ Bugs Subject: short topic names...
...are a reality. Use your long name, fine. But you can now provide a short name for use in the "Last five Updated" list.
This field is visible on the "new topic" page - and if you leave it blank, it just uses the existing message subject.
For existing topics, site staff can edit these (as they always have been able to), and the general public may edit their own threads (i.e. topics they have started) by going to the bottom of the page and clicking the "Edit Topic" link.

I will implement a "short title" option, as well as some sort of color-code for denoting which forum threads belong to.

I got tired of the page layout being broken anytime someone posted to a topic with a huge, long name, so I added a feature that trims topic names to a respectible length in the "Last Five Updated Topics" spot at the top of the page.
Thoughts?

Topic: The Chakran Portal - an Adventure in Audalis Subject: walking band aid
Geim cursed under his breath as the monster rent the flesh of another of his companions. It seemed that this would become a battle of attrition - would the party's healers be able to keep the warriors together long enough for them to slay the beast?
Grimly, the runemaster once again grasped his holy symbol and muttered a prayer to Kharox, this time seeking the god's aid to heal Throndek. Though none of us'd complain if ye dropped a bouler or three on tha' badger-monster! Geim mentally noted to the Ageless Craftsman.
Provided that the party's collective wounds are reasonably healed, the runemaster will grasp his own weapon and lend whatever aid he can to the fight directly. If, however, others continue to face the same luck as the warriors thus far have done, the cleric will tend their wounds as best he can.

Topic: yet another movie thread... Subject: disagree
...with what is becoming a near-consensus, here. I very much enjoyed the newest Harry Potter - it may well be my favorite of the series thus far.
However, let me qualify that by stating that I have not read any of the books. There is simply no way to put that much content into a movie; I enjoy the movies, so I have decided that if I am going to read the books, it won't be until after all the movies have come out. That way, I won't go in with expectations too high, and will be able to enjoy them.

Topic: DND Trivia Game Subject: technically...
Ni! (pronounced "Nee!") is correct, but not for the entire movie. It changed later on, to the knights who say "Ecky-ecky-ecky-ecky-P'tang, Zzoo-Boing, gdgdbaaoizen" (the rest of the knights, aside from their leader, do continue to say "Ni", however).
Arthur then calls them "The Knights Who 'Til Recently Said Ni".
Ahem, sorry. I guess that doesn't *really* matter...

Well, smack me around the head and shoulders! I was certain I had posted my intentions to have Geim heal in the main thread, as well... had even written up a section including a bit of self-doubt as to the runemaster's ability to fight this thing in combat, but that he was sure he could help by healing.
Huh.

Admiral Bob - are you in or out? I need a post from you, or at least a message.
Ziklag has dropped. Rystefn was supposed to take his place, but he's had issues.
Guys, this should be a brisk, breezy little adventure. Still, I'd like to know that I *do* have players...

Topic: Continuing Where We Last Left Off Subject: curtains for the knight?
One moment, the battle was going so well. Arien had stepped into the fray, armor shining, flaming sword held aloft, and had helped to change the tide of the battle. Heironeus was smiling upon thier efforts this day; good would triumph over evil, and all was right with the world.
In a heartbeat, everything changed. The heir to house Thedell is struck in the side by a cowardly attack, knocking him to the ground.
Arien is no stranger to battle or to wounds, and knows that this is no skinned knee or broken rib - the damage is serious. Before he can fully recover, the Blue has disarmed him, and Maximus is greivously injured by one of the tree-men.
Nothing is right with the world. The possibility of defeat suddenly looms large, and the knight feels sick to his stomach. Is this how it will end, then? Dying for what? There will be no songs about this. No one will know, or even care.
Suddenly, Dapple makes a move to step to Arien's aid. Dapple - unarmed, and surely no match for the Blue - apparently experiences no fear, no hesitation. The knight steels himself. If the little rogue can show such courage, why is he stroking his own self pity like this?
Live or die, Arien will fight the good fight.
OOC: Arien will use the time Dapple is hopefully buying to retrieve his sword. Who knows? Maybe Dapple will snap the guy's neck and Arien will look really silly. However, the plan is to get the sword, ignite it, and attack the Blue all out. If this guy lives, I'm betting we all die.

Topic: The Chakran Portal - an Adventure in Audalis Subject: badgering the witnesses...
Geim shook his head at the situation. On one hand, he could feel sympathy for the plight of these poor people, and so, he felt a responsibility to help them... an to be honest, he could care less about their coin or their holy relic. But on the other hand, badger hunting was nothing but an annoying sidetrack to keep them from their true goal - the lost lore that they would hopefully discover beneath the Chakrans. Even though he had had long enough to become accustomed to the idea of their quest, the runemaster felt his pulse begin to race every time he allowed himself to think of what might lie ahead.
The khord cleric addressed his comrades. "Sadly, I know little of badgers, aside from what I have read in books - that they are ferocious when cornered, and will defend their territory until death. I have never come across a passage that describes them attacking people in this way, so it would seem to me that the beast would have to be mad or diseased to do such a thing... or perhaps there is something else we do not know about the situation? Some sort of devilry involved, perhaps..." he mused aloud.
Again, he shook his head. "I believe that the proper way to normally kill a badger would be to TRAP it, not to HUNT it. Do we have any idea as to where it might lair? I would think it would be best to deal with a creature like this on our terms, rather than its own."

Topic: RDINN Feature Updates/ Suggestions/ Bugs Subject: update...
A technical update, here.
We use a database table to track the activity of members. Basically, any time you load a new page while logged in, the site tracks it - this powers the "last active on..." section of the user profile.
As you can imagine, that table gets huge in a hurry; a typical visit consists of anywhere from a half dozen to thirty or so records for each time you log on. I have to manually purge that data, but I hate doing it, as it ruins the profile feature.
But the table had gotten above 700k records, so I wrote a little script that removes all but each individual's most recent record. We're back down to 502 records now. I'll set it to run every night, which should give us a small performance boost on page loads.
