Arien had gritted his teeth at the pronouncement by the gladiator that he "would do" as a leader. The young knight was not one to rub station into people's faces, but this Talas seemed to almost delight in his very lack of it, let alone respect Arien's. So different than his beloved Shona, who had shown that gentleness and decency could reside in the heart of someone who's body had been forced to withstand the pain and rigors of the arena! Nevertheless, Dwan must have seen something good in him, so out of respect for the dwarf, the heir to House Thedell held his tongue - for now.

The knight was not at all surprised by Jal's unwillingness to demonstrate arcane power. These same sort of requests had been a pet peeve of Ally's; mages seemed to like their secrecy, he supposed, and it was true that casting spells took more out of them than was seemly for a simple pissing contest. Therefore, it didn't really both Arien that Jal had refused; if he said he had useful spells, and Dwan believed it to be so, it was good enough for him. The fact that the man talked to himself was a tad unsettling, however...

Adrian's answer about the Reds made a lot of sense. Mages were mages. You hit them, they had a hard time managing to cast spells. What was there to know? Char was right, of course - the trick was in getting close enough to do just that. A study of the plans - and of the actual location of these mages - would help to determine the best course of getting party members near enough.

The ranger seemed annoyed or upset; not that either were particularly unusual with the woodsman... while eminently reliable in battle, Char was never the happiest fellow. His offer of beer and food at a nearby tavern seemed like a wonderful solution to Arien.

"Indeed, friend Char, I would be happy to join you," the knight stated in reply. Assuming there is no further need for conversation, Arien intends to join Char and Kilgim for drinks and food, then retire to his room to polish his armor and double check his equipment before an early start the next morning.

Will this game be open to khords (dwarves) only, or all races?

Captain Blair was a little surprised by the depth of detail at the meeting, but the subject of Mac's briefing helped to bring certain other matters into much better focus. The TAC chief's comments about "extenuating circumstances" had seemd odd to the captain earlier - Mac had never seemed to be the sort of man to make excuses of any sort. If this intel was indeed accurate, then Blair could understand how a man could reach the point that Jack had reached the night before.

Once MacTavish had finsihed, Blair nooded. "Thank you for the briefing, Lieutenant MacTavish." His own expression had grown noticeably darker. "There is no need for me to rehash this any further. You have concerns to address, here, people - let's be prepared for the worst and hope for the best." He grinned ruefully. "So much for a simple delivery run."

Noah looked around the room at each of his officers. "Any further questions? Does anyone else have anything to add?"

OOC: assuming not... if so, we'll edit.

"Very well then," he concluded. "Let's get to work. Dismissed."

As the staff filtered out, Noah gestured for Gavison to remain behind. Once the room was empty, he broached the subject that hung over the room like a dark cloud.

"Jack's intel complicates things very much," the captain observed. "Bad enough that there is terrorist activity at all, but if Jck's brother is indeed involved..." his voice trailed off.

OOC: any response

He looked Gavison in the eye. "Kelsey, I trust Jack to do his duty; I have no doubt as to his loyalty. That being said, I would be a fool to not be concerned, should he cross paths with Ian. If nothing else, it would be human nature to take a foolish chance in order to 'set the record straight,' as it were." Blair sighed heavily.

"If you have any recommendations, I am open to them. I would think that, if nthing else, Jack should probably stay on board the Discovery, rather than ride a delivery shuttle, when we reach Aldor V."

OOC: suggestions, comments...

Once again, Noah sighed. "It never gets any easier, does it?"

Estrogen overload! Estrogen overload!

Wow, interesting tack this discussion has taken!

Avrielle, I will note that once upon a time, Ensign Talda showed some interest in Keely, but she was so wrapped up in Raines that it kind of fell through the cracks. Of course, to be fair, Talda tends to show interest to anything wth two X chromosones...

As for Blair? He is definitely a lonely guy. However, he's in a precarious position... any sort of romantic entanglement with someone under his command could provve to be very complicated. And, as stated, he's bitter and hurt over his failed marriage; in the best of circumstances, he'd be reluctant to get into any sort of serious relationship.

Eventually, Blair might get a girlfriend, but he might not, too... he's never gotten over his divorce and is VERY sour on the idea of any serious relationship.

Yep, may just be married to the ship.

1.The Vaccine is the reason for the trip to Aldor V right?

Yep.

2.This was originally supposed to be just a stopover to drop off the vaccine right?

Yep.

3.If that's so and we now know about it's flaws, why are we still going there to drop it off?

Because tens of thousands - perhaps more - Aldorians will die without it? Flawed or not, dangerous or not, it's our duty to help.

Chec oyur javascript settings again to be absolutely sure. If not.. well, you can hold your mouse over the smileys to see their codes, and put them in manually...

Yes, Arevaci qualifies as a senior staff member, and should be at the meeting. Honestly, the day's schedule has been very hectic, so I was planning to do a Blair/Arevaci face to face AFTER the staff meeting, if that works for you.

Otherwise, we can back post!

Avrielle, Lyskhala - congrats on sniffing out one of the plot points we were intending for this mission.

Stardate: 2366.10.22
USS Discovery, observation lounge - 1025

Noah welcomed the last of his senior staff in his customary manner - standing by the door, offering a face to face greeting as they entered. Once everyone was seated, the captain took his place at the head of the table.

"Thank you all for coming," he began. "This meeting should, by all rights, be a short one. For now, let me turn the meetin over to Doctor Joseph Milkens. Doctor?"

The white-haired scientist took the floor. "I'm not sure what I really have to add," he stated in a thin voice. "There is a plague sweeping Aldor V. I have developed a vaccine to protect the uninfected Aldorians from it, but the materials do not replicate well; thus, the need to physically transport the vaccine, rather than simply send the formula to them." He paused for a moment.

"The vaccine works in a manner similar to the first smallpox vaccines on earth - in those days, scientists discovered that individuals infected with a much less severe virus known as cowpox were immune to the deadly smallpox."

"At any rate," he continued, "my vaccine is, in fact, a genetically engineered disease of its own. It is relatively harmless to Aldorians, yet it protects them from the full plague. It is extremely water-soluble, and can be taken orally; we intend to seed the major water supplies with it, and thus protect the populace."

"However," he warned, "the vaccine is dangerous to humans - the infection is quite deadly to us, so we must take special care when handling my cargo. Is that understood?"

After deciding that it was, indeed, clear, the doctor yielded the floor to the captain.

"Thank you, doctor," Blair stated. "We expect to arrive at Aldor V in approximately seventy-two hours." He looked at the bajoran helmsman for a moment. "We are on schedule, are we not, Lieutenant Zara?"

OOC: assuming an affirmative

"We must keep our guard up," the captain explained. "I have been made aware that one or more terrorist organizations are known to have active operations or sympathizers in the Aldor system. Obviously, I cannot stress enough how dangerous it could be if this medicine were used for any other purpose."

"With that in mind," Blair continued, "I turn the meeting over to Lieutenant MacTavish. Mister MacTavish, I understand that you have more specific information pertinent to this mission?"
