Topic: Star Wars: The Tides of Fate
Subject: Chaos ensues....

The other two soldiers, having not paid great attention to what is going on, take the bothan at his word and reach for their own weapons. For his part, Burukt tries to peel off a shot at Caise, but one of the passengers - a human woman - picks that unfortunate instant to attempt to run for cover, and takes the blast full in the chest. She drops to the ground, convulses twice, and lies still.

Damanil squeezes off his own blast, hitting the bothan traitor square in the face. Naturally, he does not move again.

With the immediate threat eliminated, the padawan looks to free the captives. The young engineer, Ziv, is nearby. "Hold still!" he calls out. The young man does, and the jedi slices his lightsaber through the chain connecting the wrist restraints. Grinning, Ziv moves to pick up the bothan's blaster.

Dime dives into his compartment and retrieves his own weapon. He returns to find the two soldiers firing rpidly. Another crewmember is wounded, the the compartment is chaos - people are running and screming.

Now with allies, the jedi can better protect the civilians in the room - and is frequently the case, the best defense here is a good offense. He leps to the attack, and the third soldier falls with a look of surprise on his face.

The fourth soldier screams again for backup into his commlink and fires wildly, but Caise is able to deflect the incoming shot. A shot from Ziv slams into the soldier, but his armor absorbs enogh of the shock to protect his life. Not so, when Dime follows with a shot of his own.

Soon the room is empty, but alarm klaxons are now sounding throughout the ship. Mercury steps out from behind the cover he had taken.

Lana fixed the room with a furious gaze. "It's just gets better all the time, doesn't it! Are yougoing to just stand there, or are you going to cut me loose, too? We'll never make it up front, but if we head back toward the engine room now, we can reach the lifeboat." She pauses. "Or, if you prefer, we can wait for the TDF to come and sort this out..."

Subject: don't see why not....

I've read it described as a buzzing in your ears, a tickling, a tingling, a feeling of being dipped in a swarm of crawling insects...

Remember that McCoy, on his guest appearance in TNG, refused to use the transporter because he didn't trust them or like how they felt.

In other words, you can safely ad lib, I'd say.

I must say, that was an excellent run of posts. I'll go on and set the table so to speak, for the evening's dinner later today.

Leg #1 of the mission is about to start - this has to do with the doctor coming on board. Blair will give some orders, then hold a staff meeting the following morning to get the crew in the loop.

Stardate: 2366.10.21
USS Discovery, captain's ready room - 1720

Noah sat in his chair, studying the PADD in his hand. Starfleet command had finally come through and forwarded the service records of the personnel that Discovery would be gaining. A security officer fresh out of the Academy, an engineer or two, assorted enlisteds - in all, it looked like ten or fifteen new faces.

He noted the two he would have the most contact with - the new Ships's Counselor, Lieutenant Arevaci, and the new Chief Engineer, Lieutenant Commander Waldgrave. The records indicated qualified officers, which he expected, but cold entries on a PADD never told the whole story.

=/= Avanti to Captain Blair. =/= the intercom broke his reverie.

"Blair here," he replied.

=/= Captain, we're picked up the Valmont on long range scan. Looks like we are on schedule. =/=

Blair nodded, though no one could see him. "Thank you, commander. I'm on my way."

**************

The hatch to the bridge hissed open, revealing the interior. Commander Avanti, dressed in command red, sat in the captain's chair, with Gavison to his right. The domtarian stood as if to move, but Blair waved him off. "Carry on, commander," he spoke. "The CONN is yours until time for you to leave." Instead of taking the command chair, the captain seated himself in the empty spot to Avanti's left.

Realizing the captain was serious, the engineer resumed his seat and continued as usual. "Helm, how long until we rezvendous?"

Lieutenant Zara's hands flew across her display for a moment before she answered. "E.T.A. is fifty-two minutes, sir."

Avanti nodded. "Maintain course and speed, lieutenant."

********************

Bridge - 1813

Lieutenant MacTavish spoke up from his place at the TAC rim. "Commander, they be hailin' us."

Avanti nodded. "Put them onscreen, please."

"Aye, sair," cam the answer. The display on the primary viewscreen shifted from a starscape to that of the interior of a Federation starship, focused on a dark-haired human male in his late forties.

"Commander Avanti! Good to see you again!" Suddenly, Captain Horatio's brow furrowed and he shifted his gaze to the side. "Noah Blair, I thought that we agreed I would be the one to promote him!"

Blair chuckled and shot a sideways glance at Avanti. "We did no such thing, Caine Horatio. You tried to play the seniority card on me, but as Avanti's current commanding officer, I trumped you by means of proximity."

For a moment, the two locked gazes, but when a grin began tugging at the corner of Noah's mouth, the staredown ended with chuckles on both sides. "Very well," Hortio answered, "but don't think I will forget this, Blair!"

Noah nodded in mock sincerity. "Indeed, captain - I will sleep with one eye open."

Horatio shook his head. "All right, then. Your officers are ready to come aboard as soon as you give the green light. Also, Doctor Milkens and his vaccine materials will be read momentarily. Oh, and Noah?"

Blair inclined his head. "Yes?"

"Thanks." Blair nodded, and the communication ended.

The captain made eye contact with Avanti. "Commander Gavison and I will see you off, if you please."

The domtarian nodded. "Thank you, sir. Lieutenant MacTavish, you have the bridge."

Transporter room one - 1820

OOC: any final goodbyes, whatever...

Noah clasped the domtarian's forearm. "I am proud to have served with you. Godspeed, Avanti."

The engineer took his place on the transporter pad. When he had received confirmation from the tech, he nodded. "Energize," he ordered.

Moments later, he was gone.

A short time later, the tech looked up. "Captain, I have a request from the Valmont - three to beam over."

Blair nodded. "That will be fine."

Noah knew that the three would be the CEO, the counselor, and this Doctor Milkens. The lower ranking personnel would come over in larger groups to transporter room two.

Once the three forms had fully materialized, Blair greeted them all. "Commander Waldgrave, Lieutenant Arevaci, Doctor Milkens. I am Captain Blair, this is my executive officer, Commander Gavison. Welcome aboard the USS Discovery."

The captain gestured to a gold-clad petty officer. "Please show the doctor to his quarters." Upon reciving an affirmative, he looked back at the old man. "Doctor, We will be underway presently. My science staff will see to it that your materials are properly taken care of. We shoud reach our destination in four days time."

Once the doctor had left, Blair fixed his gaze on the counselor. "Mister Arevaci, please check in with Doctor White, our chief medical officer. When your schedule permits, drop by my ready room."

He turned to the engineer. "Commander Waldgrave, I'm sure that you will wish to acquaint yourself with your new department, so I will stay out of your way for now. Likewise, however, I would appreciate a moment of face time when you get the chance."

OOC: anyone interject anything if needed.

"Very well," Noah concluded. "Carry on, then."

I am about to start the series of posts to bring us into contact with the Valmont. Those of your who have important/steamy/iteresting subplots already going, don't worry about it - as always, you are free to backpost and fill in the in between time.

However, we have three PCs who need this to happen so that they can post, to say nothing of the fact that we'll never get our mission going at this rate.

Fine, fine. I'll do a re: subject.

Nah, the entries are already there in the database - no need to kill them. Even if you DO delete them from your outbox, they are actually not gone - they are simply marked to no longer show up in your outbox.

Otherwise, I'd have to either have two copies of every message (one for you, one for the recipient), or when either of you "deleted" it, it would be lost to you both.
