Ace Hardware - 1:35 PM

As the rest of the survivors wandered through the hardware store, Steve mutters to himself. "Been here already... wasting time..." However, the auburn-haired man seems to understand that the others had not yet had the chance to stock up on supplies, and so he moves to the back of the store and hunkered down in the shadows, waiting for the rest to comeplete their "shopping."

Emily browses the aisles, but decides that, for her, the tire iron is the best choice for an ongoing weapon. Mac distributes flashlights and laser devices to the others, explaining his thinking as he does so. Group members fashion loops and figure out creative ways to carry various items with rope and duct tape. Murph moves close to Amber, and the two of them share a private moment or two.

Jake grits his teeth against the heat in the hardware store - it is far more stifling here than the drugstore had even begun to be. Armageddon must truly be here, he muses, the dead walk the land, the whole world will burn soon...

Gripping his newfound axe tightly in his hands, the soccer player stares at the back of Mac's head. That bossy sonof@#$@*! Handing out lights and pointers, acting like any of this matters...

Jake grimaces against a sudden, splitting pain in his head and wipes his flushed face. Sudden fury courses through his veins; he can almost taste the hate. The rage was eating him up inside, begging to be released.... the bounty hunter's #*(*@$ aim had caused Jake to be bitten, he deserved death, Jake wouldn't die alone...

Wrapped up in their own concerns, seeing to their own gear, soothing their own fears, no one immediately notices Jake as he steps up and brings the axe down in a vicious, overhand arc toward the back of Adrian MacGregor's head. At the last possible instant, instincts scream at the bounty hunter and he turns to his left just enough to prevent the weapon from splitting his head like a ripe watermelon - but it still punches deep into his flesh, penetrating into the upper chest area until the axe head is buried there.

Time seems to freeze for a moment as Mac stares, uncomprehending, into the dilated eyes of the man who had shared drinks, stale food, and stories with him for the past week and a half, the man who had now decided to kill him. Jake's hands shake, he hyperventilates for a moment, and then Mac's knees buckle and the bounty hunter slumps to the floor. Jake releases the axe handle, leaving it wedged in Mac's chest, then screams... a horrible sound of hate and anguish.

Before anyone can react to the horrifying scene, Jake leaps through the plate glass storefront and crashes into the sidewalk beyond. He picks himself up off of the ground and screams again, but this time, the scream is far less human. This time, it is more a bloodcurdling shriek bereft of any semblance of humanity.

This time, a chorus of shrieks answer - very near a half dozen in number. Footsteps can be heard as the zombies - for surely, that is what these things are - come rushing in response to Jake's call. There are mere moments, at best, until they are upon you all.

At the party scrambles to take up defensive positions, the first of the attackers comes into view, moving at a dead run for the door. Suddenly, it jerks as if yanked back by an invisible rope as a massive hole - big enough for a man's fist to fit through - opens in its chest. A roar like that of thunder can be heard, followed by a deep voice shouting into the madness.

"Call ye on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the LORD! And the God that answereth by fire," there is a slight pause in the statement; if a person were close enough to hear above the chaos, then the listener could have detected the sound of another round being chambered before the voice continues, "let him be God!"

And then, the zombies are upon you.

I guess he figured that two minutes worth of a head start in the monastery was more than enough time for the BBG to get away.

Also, let it be clear - Brad may be known for many things, but thinking out a plan logically is not one of them.

Make torches if you want - I have no problem with it.

But, you know, there ARE literally piles of heavy duty flashlights, with all the batteries you could ever want, here. No need to light, worry about heavy liquids, no need to worry about setting yourself on fire...

...wait, nevermind. Use the torches.

I think Malek is referring to dowels - these are gettable.

I have no PM from Malek or Tiamat. :-/

This battle, such as it was, had turned out to be every bit as frustrating as it was horrifying. While it was clear that something was controlling the bodies of the poor priests, Kilgim's turning attempt had had no effect at all - so they were not technically undead. Adrian's spell had done nothing but provide further fodder for the disembodied hands and the blades (that Dapple had seen fairly dismissive of).

Arien was at a loss on how to fight these things, and that fact terrified him. In virtually every other fight he had ever been in, the enemy could be cut, could be made to bleed, could be killed. But what could one such as he do against the likes of these? What he would have given for Alloryen now!

Kilgim growled out a new plan of dealing with the threat, and the newcomer, Flynn, spoke something of knowledge. With no real idea himself on how to continue, Arien fell back into a defensive position near the priest, being careful to stay within his circle. "To Kilgim!" Arien cried, hoping against hope that either the priest or the bard one would uncover some way of dealing with these abominations.

OOC: Arien will fight defensively against any direct threats, with the focus being on protecting Kilgim. He will stay by the dwarf's side throughout the ritual, but will not press the attack (for once).

I figure, crowbar = heavier + bulky = needs more tape to hold. So you need to peel/cut.

Works for me, Meri. Don't try to quick draw the crowbar in a fight, but I see no reason you couldn't carry it that way.

When you all get a chance, I'd appreciate it if you could all send me PMs with your character's complete inventory. Unless I have nixed something, you should be able to have any item you want from the two stores - but I want to be sure that we're all on the same page.

Clothing is going to be a pretty much no-go. They have work gloves in several varieties, and they have clear plastic coveralls (for painting), but no actual clothing. No shoes, no boots, either. Sorry, guys.

Amber can get an axe or a hatchet. Note that she *is* plenty strong enough to effectively use an axe. Yes, she might get tired swinging it a lot, but it's available and usable. Let me know which you want.

Now hear this: Ace is a small neighborhood harware store. Expect to find common tools and utensils here. Do not expect to find everything you might locate at, say, a Home Depot or a Lowes.

Send me your "shopping lists", I'll let you know if anything you desire cannot be found here.

Ace Hardware - 1:20 PM

As the rest of the survivors went through the motions of gathering medical supplies, Jake fumed. He was angry at himself for allowing that thing to bite him... and angry at the others for letting it. He'd stepped up to protect Mac, and what had it gotten him? Possible death? Becoming one of the howling monsters?

A favorite statement of his father's echoed in Jake's mind. No good deed goes unpunsihed, boy. Jake had never really understood that before, but now, it seemed crystal clear.

Mac, apprently feeling guilty, handed Jake his revolver and asked the young man to keep an eye on the front of the store while the rest of them scavenged. Jake shivered as he accepted the gun... it was freezing in this store! Why did they keep drug stores so cold, anyway? For a brief instant, he considered placing a round into the back of Mac's head; if he was going to die, it was only fair the the bounty hunter die, too.

Right?

Nervously, Jake turned away to keep an eye on the front door, then wiped the sweat from his brow. For the love of God, it was hot in here! He couldn't believe how stuffy the store had gotten, since it wasn't even hot outside...

*************************

The rest of the party grabbed medical supplies, beverages, and the odd hygene items. Emily found the Augmentin she was looking for, added a little bottled water, and injected herself intravenously with a grimace. At least she wouldn't die of pneumonia.

*************************

With everyone ready to move, the survivors re-entered the street and slid down a couple of doors tothe Ace Hardware. Like the Save Rite, the front door was unlocked; a quick sweep indicates that there are no other occupants in the store.

Also much like the Save Rite, this store appears almost untouched, with few signs of serious looting. Interestingly, the cash register has been pryed open - as if paper money will be particularly useful in a time like this.

Jake mumbles something about finding a better weapon, something to keep those #*#$ers farther away from him next time, and strides away from the rest of the group.

Since I haven't heard a real plan otherwise, I'm going to have the party move to the hardware store next. I will point out that you need to address the food issue somehow - either by raiding Treasure Island, moving on to the other grocery store, discussing the isue with Steve, whatever.

Remember, you guys left the basement due to hunger, first and foremost.

**cracks knuckles**

I made an in-game post as to what the drugstore contains. Please refer to said post. Use that to figure it out. I am certainly not posting the entire inventory of this store for your perusal.

What would be a lot more effective is for you to use my post as a guideline, then either PM me a "shopping list", or post it here on the Q&A. If your character is looking for something that is not in stock, I'll let you know.
