The skull pendant looks extremely similar to the design on the door.  However, the doors have no keyholes, slots, or any other openings on them, let alone any place that a pendant looks like it would fit into.

There are weird names in any generator that uses randomness to generate names.  I'm okay with that.  I personally just ask for 100 names at a time, then browse the page full.

To be clear - Kith has defnitely touched the door once already.  Ch'dau is wanting to give his own input before anyone touches it again?

Let's hash this out here in the Q&A, if we can.

I've added some more... will add even more.  We're starting to get to the point that we have enough seed names for the Kazari to have very few repeats.  Some goofy ones, for sure, some werid ones... but a lot of really good stuff, IMO.

Such is a hazard of the play by post format; sometimes, descriptions mean assuming on the part of the GM.  Up until now, I had assumed that Kith had not touched the doors in her search for traps, but her post indicated otherwise.  My latest post deals with that.

Breebles - Kith took minor damage from the cold, but did at least avoid any paralysis.

Subject: what's behind door number one?

Kithran examines the door carefully, looking for mechanical traps or other devices.  She runs her fingers lightly over the embossed skull.

The moment that her bare skin comes into contact with the surface of the skull, the rogue feels a rush of incredible cold flow into her.  She jerks her fingers away quickly, but even so, she can feel a terrible - and familiar - feeling seep into her bones.

The grip of the grave pulls deep inside, threatening to grab at her heart, trying to fix her to the spot... but somehow, Kith is able to resist.

She gasps aloud, having experienced the identical sensation before when injured by the giggling ghouls.

After recovering, she speaks aloud.

“Davena, Garn, in your torturings of those D’hurgen priests, when they mentioned this cave, did you happen to ask them of any obstacles we might face once we entered? Did any of them offer up a password or mention some sort of key?”

Davena's reply is as as calm and measured as if discussing the weather.  If she cares - or even notices - the reference to torture, her tone does not belie it.

"The priests led us to believe that the undead would be present here, along with others of their order," she replies.  "They gave no details of defenses, nor did they mention passwords or keys."  The blonde woman's tone shifts ever so slightly towards ice.  "Had they done so, we certainly would not have failed to mention it."

Midge frowns at the Bladesinger's query.   "A wizard locked door might open to a password or such, " he speaks.  "No telling what that might be, naturally."

The diminutive spellcaster strains to make out the door in the darkness.  "Of course, the simplest thing would be a key to open a lock.   Perhaps some easily portable item might function the same with regards to a spell?  Just musing out loud."

Reralae - even if you don't come up with names... if you see/know of good names, feel free to share those.  Again, the point is to establish a good pool of quality seed names so that the generators can do something good.

I love making useful things, even if they are not useful to a wide group of people.

Yeah, sixty-four is a good start.

Subject: Name generator help!

I recently fixed an old bug with the name generators (Armoury -> Syvari (elven) name generator, and Armoury -> Khordaldrum (dwarven) name generator).  In the process, I remembered that there are a number of seed names created for cidals (halflings) - but only for given names... no surnames.  So I never put this one into live status.

I started musing that it would likely be useful to do fantasy names for various humans, too.

Eol Fefalas expressed interest (perhaps jokingly) that I should set up a Kazari (catfolk) name generator.

Here's the thing.  The script is set up to be very versatile, and it stores everything in a database.  I can absolutely set up all sorts of lists.  The big thing is that I really need seed names to make the scripts useful.

So, here is where you, the RDI Inn member, comes in.

Suggest some good fantasy character names!  The more seed names, the more effective the generator is.

Please, if you are feeling a tad creative, just jot down some lists of names.  The very best would be if you organize them by species and gender (yes, gender-neutral names are fine).  Mention if they are given names or surnames.

I'd love to get more of these up and running!  Thanks for your help.

Post edited to allow people to play with the "in progress" generators.  Links here.

It occurs to me that I never completed the seed names for the cidal (halfling) name generator.  As many people as use the sylvari (elven) and khordaldrum (dwarven) ones, I really ought to do it.

As far as that goes, there would probably be some value in doing generators for humans of various types, too.

I am truly honored that you folks have enjoyed the game.  It's been cathartic for me to not only run a successful adventure, but to get some of this darkness out of my head.

That said... the time has come.  Ladies and gentlemen, we are at darkness' very doorstep.  Good luck to you all.

Topic: The Corruption Hidden Beneath the Surface...
Subject: down into the darkness...

The party collects themselves, forms into two columns, and moves to follow the trampled grass towards the cliff faces.

The grass gives way to hard packed earth, thus ending the trail.  However, a bit of searching does find a larger cave opening.  With no better prospect, the party pushes forward into the darkness.

It is noticeably cooler underground - and is deathly silent; every step that you take seems to roar in the silence.  The ceiling is low in places, higher in others - though by and large, two people can walk relatively comfortaby abreast.  The cave smells of earth, but little else.

After twenty yards or so, you come to what is surely your destination - a stone wall stands here, closing off what was once a natural cavern.  In the middle of the wall sits a set of double doors of a dark gray material, with iron handles on each.

The doors feature a large grinning skull embossed on them, with the crack between them dividing the skull in half.  Strange runes are carved beneath the skull.

Kithran can find nothing untoward about the doors; if it bears any sort of trap, she cannot find it.

Midge chants an incantation, gazes at the door and the surrounding area.  "The doors are somehow enspelled," the cidal mage states.  "I cannot tell what the spell does, and it does not appear to be a strong aura - but there is something here.  Something dark."

I have fixed the issue where you got question marks or blank square characters in the place of specially accented characters.  You could see this if you generated sylvari names in the name generator script - among other places.

Should have done this long ago.

The transformations of Cedric and Aranwen have been fantastic for the game.
