Subject: need a mage

I just gave a tentative approval via PM to a player who I won't yet name, as their concept isn't quite finalized. However, I'm pretty sure that they are playing a paladin (deity yet to be determined).

That has us at five adventurers. If you ask me, we really, really need a mage to be the sixth. I won't insist on it, but I think that it'll make for a better game if we do.

No need for that. There's no rule that says we *have* to have both genders. Just saying that it would be nice if at least one of the other potential players picked a female character.

I hate Cincinnati, I really do. If I pick them to win, they lose. If I pick them to lose they win.

Seriously, of my misses so far, seven or eight are from the flipping Cincinnati games.

We are now up to four characters. Two full clerics means that the party should be able to take some serious punishment and keep going. It also means that we should have some nice versatility.

I'm going to restate my opinion that it will be essential to have at least one full arcane spellcaster in the party.

Honestly, I think that we need a mage and either another full warrior type (fighter/ranger/paladin) or a gish (fighter/mage).

I also think that it would be nice to have at least one member of the fairer sex in the party. This thing is turning into a major sausage fest!

Well, folks, I am gratified. In a few short hours, we already have three workable concepts, and all three fill a different major role (divine caster, warrior, rogue).

We definitely need an arcane caster still (aka mage). Note that such a mage could be a Circle mage or not, can be of just about any race, etc.

For the final two slots, I would recommend one more warrior for sure. It would certainly not hurt to have another caster of any flavor. It might be useful to have a multi class character (mix steel with spells).

But again, it's really up to what you guys want to play. Do note that while there will be some problem solving and intrigue, this adventure will probably be fairly combat-heavy.

You and I have already discussed the character somewhat via PM, and I know you... so I'm confident than your character will be fine.

I'm really hoping that Eol can get back to posting regularly. Also, I have to admit... I have a little mental block in regards to this game. The first one was so good that I feel a little intimidated at being able to repeat the success.

Of course, not playing at all is just stupid.

Subject: Need stout hearted players (2E D&D)

Okay, folks. After far too long away from DMing, I am starting a new D&D game.

This will probably be a single adventure only, though I'm not opposed to the idea of a campaign.

The game will be set in Audalis (which means that magic is fairly uncommon), and will be my typical modified 2E rules. In other words, this is old school stuff. You don't have to be familiar with 2E rules, as I'll be happy to help you create a character. I handle arcane magic a bit differently than the rules as written, so be advised of that.

Edit: if you are comfortable rolling up your own stats, please use the "roll 4d6, drop low roll from each set, arrange to taste" method of character creation. I expect higher than average scores, but if you come to me with three 18s, I reserve the right to nerf your character as I see fit.

I need at least four - preferably six - adventurers of third level. Pretty much any class or race is okay, but note that this game takes place in Northeast Ertain - one of the five human kingdoms... the point being that really exotic races would probably be out of place, treated poorly by the populace, etc. I would strongly recommend that each of the four primary roles (warrior, arcane spellcaster, divine spellcaster, rogue) be represented in the party, but that will be up to you guys. I will consider any alignment, but this adventure is best suited for a party of overall good alignment (I prefer stories about heroes, not villains). I will consider kits, within reason, but reserve the right to change or veto anything that I don't like.

I expect at least one post per week, and would like to make it two. If posting is really fast and furious, I'll post more often as I'm able. Posts should be at least 2-3 short paragraphs. I want to read about emotions, thoughts, etc. "I charge the orcs" is not an acceptable post.

Please note that this game is not first come, first served. To be considered, I need a PM from you with a basic character concept, maybe a personality, brief history, etc. I will pick the ideas that I like best, that I feel will form the best team. Edit: to clarify, I need more than a character sheet for you to be considered for this game. In fact, the character sheet is the *least* important piece of it. I need to know who your character is. Why do they adventure? What is their personality? You don't have to give me a full biography, but a bit of history would be good.

On that note, assume that your characters have been an adventuring party for at least a few months. I don't want to waste six weeks posting about meeting in a tavern, and I'm too old and crabby to deal with the moody loner who always works alone and has to be persuaded to help out. I want all questions about party leadership and such hashed out in the Q&A before we start the adventure. Basically, I want to cut out the annoying fluff and get right to the meat of the adventure.

Regarding the adventure itself:

WARNING! This adventure will contain disturbing, adult/horror themes. If you are easily offended, squeamish, or bothered by the macabre, please do not apply. While this game will *not* contain anything truly explicit, the themes prompt me to limit this game to those age 18 and up.

I do not take credit for this adventure; I actually have had this one on my hard drive for years, as it is posted freely online. However, I have adapted it to Audalis, and I have taken the general plot and carried it to some darker, more detailed places. There is a character in this story that literally bothers me, and sadly, this character sprung directly from my twisted imagination.

One final warning: I have a reputation as a killer DM, and to be honest, the reputation is at least somewhat fair. I truly don't go out of my way to kill players, but if you do stupid things ("I charge into the bandit camp alone, using surprise to my advantage!"), well... you made that bed, you get to lie in it. That being said, I *have* killed off players simply because the dice were not kind. Adventuring is dangerous business, and death is a real part of it. If you sign up to play, and you die, please don't take it personally.

Okay. Now that I've done my best to scare you off, please let me know if you are interested.

Accepted players:
Hammer (half-sylvari cleric of Kith-jora): Galardil
Brundel (human rogue): Blair
Tuned_Out (human cleric of Merca): Danon
Reralae (sylvari paladin of Falloes): Rae
Nomad D2 (sylvari mage): Jarenion
Vanadia (sylvari bladesinger): En'Aranthea
Kyle (human fighter): Ta'Arms

At this point, recruitment is closed. I will not be accepting any more players unless we have a drop. Thank you all for your interest.

A dragon in the first room? C'mon, I've never done that!

Cheese whiz. You kill a few (dozen) PCs, and you start getting some kind of reputation...

Can't wait to follow this game. I've been itching to do a dungeon crawl, myself. Might have to cast the net out and see what's left after Alacrity hauls you all in.

That might be because thou hast been sucking of late, fair Gruggster.

Yep, I'ma gunna trash talk while up four measly picks. Though I *do* seem to be finding the top of the board pretty regularly...

Ahem, enough. On to this week's picks.

Carolina @ Tampa Bay
NY Giants @ Philadelphia
Dallas @ Detroit
Buffalo @ New Orleans
Miami @ New England
Cleveland @ Kansas City
San Francisco vs. Jacksonville
Pittsburgh @ Oakland
NY Jets @ Cincinnati
Atlanta @ Arizona
Washington @ Denver
Green Bay @ Minnesota
Seattle @ St Louis

Couple of these picks really bother me. Not knowing who Philly will have at QB is worrisome. Picking the Jets, Raiders, and Cardinals is likewise worrisome.

I may change a couple of these; we'll see.

Almost went with Jets and Steelers. Best I can do now is nine, and I'm having to pull for the woeful Giants to get even that.

Two mind boggling items from yesterday:

I hate the Patriots as much as any sensible sports fan should, but they got robbed on that penalty. Serious, the first time it's ever been called in the NFL, and they do it on a game-changing overtime kick... and on a questionable application of the rule, at that? Sounds like some refs had money on the Jets.

And really, John Fox? Manning drives you the length of the field. Indy cannot stop your passing game. You are down two scores with three and a half minutes to go, and you run the ball with the backup running back (who has a history of fumbleitis)? Fox was a moron in Carolina, nice to know that having a massively talented team hasn't changed that fact.

Also, not NFL... but note that Gus has taken the dumpster fire that was Auburn football and made them way better, way sooner, than they have a right to be. War Eagle.

Time to extend my lead. Let's take a look at this week's slate.

Seattle @ Arizona
Houston @ Kansas City
San Diego @ Jacksonville
Cincinnati @ Detroit
St Louis @ Carolina
Buffalo @ Miami
New England @ NY Jets
Dallas @ Philadelphia
Chicago @ Washington
Tampa Bay @ Atlanta
San Francisco @ Tennessee
Cleveland @ Green Bay
Baltimore @ Pittsburgh
Denver @ Indianapolis
Minnesota @ NY Giants

Hrm. Found myself called to pick a couple of upsets (for some reason, Jacksonville called to me for a minute or three), but here we go.

The Texas game truly surprised me - I honestly thought they were a good team in a bad slump. Getting murdered like that at home to a very mediocre Rams team makes me think again.

But hey, I got eleven right yesterday, and feel good about my Monday night pick.

Looks like my trepidation for last week was justified. I feel better about this week... which likely means that I'm in for some humbling. We'll see.

NY Giants @ Chicago
Detroit @ Cleveland
Cincinnati @ Buffalo
St Louis @ Houston
Oakland @ Kansas City
Carolina @ Minnesota
Pittsburgh @ NY Jets
Philadelphia @ Tampa Bay
Green Bay @ Baltimore
Jacksonville @ Denver
Tennessee @ Seattle
New Orleans @ New England
Arizona @ San Francisco
Washington @ Dallas
Indianapolis @ San Diego

I haven't checked the lines, but I feel like I've gone pretty much with all favorites. Now I'm feeling less confident. :-/

I knew it would be a stupid weekend, and it was. Still, I'm not happy with a lousy eight correct.

Share of the lead is nice, though. Couple of coaches had any sense, I would have had 10 or 11. I'm looking at you, Atanta, trying to run up the middle with your scatback behind that crap O-line instead of taking the three points on the chip shot field goal. Bet that los by two really sting now, doesn't it?

I think that Bills win that game if they don't end up relying on an undrafted rookie free agent to be the QB.
