Topic: New T-shirt design announcements Subject: okay, I give
By popular demand, I have created a Loaded Dice "Roll for Save" t-shirt (taken from the "Breast Weapon" strip). The default color is purple, which not only coordinates with the art, but looks really good, in my opinion. However, you may change the color to just about anything you like.
Check it out!

It *is* a push/pull door.
For most locations, Google Maps will give you a pretty correct indicator of what's what. Realize that this is four years in the future, so some businesses may be new/out of business. I took liberties with O'Brian's (didn't realize that there WAS a real O'Brian's) - that block of Cornelia is actually residential only, but I figured that a neighborhood pub would fit right in.
The Save Rite and hardware store are in their real life locations (though our harware store is Ace, the real one is True Value... they must have gotten bought out). This is actually how the Treasure Foods came to be... I didn't realize that it was here when I first mapped out the area, and could see no good reason to exclude it.
If you see any HUGE discrepencies in the maps, feel free to PM me. Minor stuff, though, is artistic license.
Post from me to the game thread shortly.

Topic: The Great Photo Contest Subject: The Great Photo Contest
I have launched a little project for fun and profit - The Great Photo Contest.
Basically, the idea is that you pay a $5 entry fee for each picture that you'd like to enter. Entries are judged, and weekly, monthly, and annual prizes are awarded or each category.
Weekly prizes are $25, monthly prizes are $100, and annual prizes are $1000. There are currently two categiories - children and babies - but I expect to add more (animals/pets, and landscapes pop to mind).
Anyway, if you know of a shutterbug (pro or amatuer) who might be interested in this sort of thing, I'd REALLY appreciate it if you'd send them the link.
Thanks!

Topic: Zombies in Chicago Subject: press on
October 26, 2014
Cornelia Avenue, 700 block - 12:45 PM
The concept that Jake might become one of those things - some zombie out of a horror movie - is too horrible to truly comprehend. Murph applies bourbon as a makeshift antiseptic and then puts on a brave face, but everyone is thinking the same thoughts - if it truly is a zombie outbreak, what good will a little whiskey do?
Mac calms Alaster, who has beaten the unconscious attacker to death and beyond. Everyone tries to look away from the bodies; the sobering fact is that, in death, these loook like regular people. Neighbors. Friends. Family.
However, there is really no other alternative than to press on.
"Get some penicillin for Emily and some bandages for Jakeā¦" Amber states.
"Augmentin," Emily corrects. "I think that I may have pneumonia. Penecillin will help if it's streptococcus based, but not if it's homophilus. Augmentin will kill them both."
The girl - the youngest of all the survivors - pauses for a moment and shrugs. "I'm studying to be a doctor. These kinds of facts stick with you."
**************************
Soon, the group is past the wreckage in the intersection, and picking their way down the street. This block of Cornelia is largely emptier than the last; only one car is on its side here, with only a couple of others haphazardly scattered along the street. The entire block is deathly quiet, and the group is able to carefully pass without incident.
Soon, the group reaches the diagonal intersection where Broadway and Cornelia meet. Sharply contrasting with the last block, the devestation here is as bad as any of you have seen. Several buildings are burned, some totally destroyed by fire. A fire truck is here, but is nearly crumpled where a dump truck apparently ran into it at high speed. Bodies in various stages of decay are scattered about the entire scene.
After scanning for safety, the party turns south on Broadway. On the east (left) side of the street is a small strip mall-style building with green awnings. The first store on the corner is the Save Rite - then a check cashing store, a laundrymat, then the hardware store.
Across the street, at an angle, site Treasure Island Foods - a local neighborhood grocery store that none of you had thought about being here when you plotted your route. Perhaps fortune is shining on you now?
From the looks of things, quite a few windows have been broken out of the grocery store, but the strip mall shops themselves look to be undamaged by the chaos.

Topic: Zombies in Chicago Q&A Subject: combat actions, action points, and zombies
Okay, folks, I've been asked to provide more details on action points. Rather than write the same PM several times, I'm posting here.
You may spend one of your 11 actions points on any situation where dice are normally rolled - while attacking, for instance, or trying to pick a lock, or hack a computer, or just about any other use of a skill. You may also spend one to gain a single extra attack in a given combat round. Finally, you may spend one to gain temporary (one time) access to a feat that you do not normally have. Typically, though, they are used to get the dice bonus or the extra attack.
All you have to do is tell me via PM, or let me know somehow in your post. Maybe something like "Mac could not afford to miss this time, so he blocked everything out of his mind as he took aim. OOC: spending 1 action point to improve the attack roll." In this situation, I'll roll an extra 1d8 and add the result to your normal 1d20 attack roll.
Now, regarding combat actions in general: it's a good idea to let me know what your character plans to do, as well as any fallback or contingency plans. In case you haven't noticed, I usually run at least a few rounds of combat before waiting on new posts (else the game will take forever). You guys actually did a wonderful job of that this time - Alaster and Mac coordinated their fire and made a plan of what to do once the intended target went down. Our melee characters had pretty much let it be known how they'd react, so it was easy for me to give everyone sensible combat actions. That being said, always try to be specific - I will assume fairly generic actions ofr your characters if I am forced to assume.
Which kind of leads back to action points. If this were tabletop, you'd be able to say at any time "hey, I wanna burn 1 AP and get a bonus attack". That won't work as well, here, so it might be a good idea to let me know if/when you'd like me to "automatically" use them for your benefit.
Say, "if we're overrun, I will burn 1 AP to get another attack" or "if I'm bitten, I will burn 1 AP to get a bonus to my fort save (and hopefully not catch the virus)" or "if I'm trying to bandage someone who is dying in combat, I'd like to burn 1 AP to help stabilize them".
Head shots: remember that I am assuming normal attacks unless you say otherwise. Most of you will hit with a regular attack more than half the time. An attempted head shot has a lower rate of success, but will pretty much be an insta kill. You could burn an action point when trying a head shot to hopefully offset some of the difficulty of that shot.
Finally, regarding zombies: these are not your "shambling corpse" zombies, ala Romero fame. When inspected up close, these zombies typically look like filthy humans, save a couple of differences:
Their eyes are almost completely black (due to huge, dilated pupils)
Their skin tends to be very flushed. It often looks completely normal, otherwise - though it may be greyish in base color, then flushed.
Zombies that have existed for much of any time tend to start looking guant/malnourished.
Almost every zombie will have at least a small wound on them (bite marks). Some will have horrible inuries, though these rarely slow them any.

I administratively edited sunow's post. As of now, Jake does not appear to be suffering any sort of side effects from his bite (aside from normal pain such an injury would cause).

Just one of those things. If he quits, your dilemma is solved - don't have the story rely on him. If he stays and does well... yay, bonus points for you.

You guys are fairly early in the character level. You'll basically have to at least survive the current story arc before we worry about levels.

Topic: Zombies in Chicago Q&A Subject: game mechanics reminders
I don't recall if I posted this, but note the following: if you so desire, you can specify that you are shooting at an attacker's head. A successful gunshot to the head will almost certainly result in an instant kill. However, your chances of hitting the head are a good deal less than simply going for a hit, period.
Also, remember that you each have 11 "action points" - you may use these to grant yourself a bonus to any given die roll, one extra attack in a given round, or other perks (PM me if you need specifics).
You gain more if you see another level.
Malek, your attack will automatically succeed unless one of the other players wishes to stop you. The unconscious zombie is, by game rules, helpless - you auto hit with lethal damage, since there are no other threats for you to worry about.
