Love the script, and the art seems to grow with every installment. Also, Floyd needs to share with me the secret of his success. I like the idea of 80k with no effort.

Psh.

Audalis is there for everyone's enjoyment. There is canon material for your use, but if you want to change things up... you are the DM, it's your world!

Example: I run games where the gods are unapproachable cosmic forces. I hate it when mortals kill off gods, assume their powers, etc... one of our staff members, on the other hand, ran a game where the party did kill off Audalisian gods, eventually ended all magic in the world. He and his players had a great time.

Isn't that the point?

Note that more than a little of the current canon material has come from regular DMs and players - they fill in the gaps for their own game, and if it fits the setting, it can become "official" info.

Your Forgotten Relams game probably looks different than mine. My Audalis game may be different from yours. We are all correct.

Enjoy!

Time for you guys to post.

Note that many of the MBD roles include special equipment. This equipment will be assigned along with the rest of your standard issue gear - so don't try to use it yet, since you don't have it.

For example, the Happiness officer will not yet be able to administer mood altering drugs; he needs to receive his supply first.

With lunch forgotten, you leave the cafeteria into a red corridor, feeling what seems like hundreds of eyes boring into your back. A last glance over your shoulder reveals the mournful face of Dweebs, who apparently has the sense to stop trying to force humself on your team.

Turning left, you see a large red blast door on the side of the corridor. It is labeled "SWR Sector". Next to it is a small panel with a speaker and a black button.

Pushing the button has no immediate effect, though after a delay, a computerized voice politely asks for your team number, which Artie is able to provide - down to the "dot R-two".

After you proceed through the blast door, it closes behind the team, and you find yourselves in a small room similar to an airlock, with a yellow laser cannon on the ceiling and another large blast door in front of you. This door has a small sign with two buttons on the right of it. The sign says "SWR SECTOR. To activate automatic defense system and to open access door, use controls below."

Below the sign are two buttons - a red one on the left, and a yellow button on the right.

Topic: Ode to Alacrity
Subject: Ode to Alacrity

A few days ago, I had a terrifying exhange of emails with a dear friend - one Roger (Alacrity) Briant. At the beginning of our conversation, he had expressed an intention to end all of his games, as well as his association with the Red Dragon Inn.

I know that he has since softened that position - and I am glad - but I do fear that one day, it will happen; I know that he has a tremendous amount going on in his life. Selfishly, I hope that he always has a little time for the Inn, but I want to support my friend, no matter what.

That being said, I think that it's high time Alacrity was recognized for what he has brought to this community over the years.

Alacrity was one of the "core group" - one of my senior staff members who joined the Inn way back in the period right after its inception (that's more than a decade ago, folks!). He was here back when there was no rdinn.net - the Red Dragon Inn then was an angelfire subsite, running a forum on EZboards.

Back in the days of the "Wild West" chat, he kept order with his mythical banhammer. Eventually, progress and programming made that almost unnecessary, which was good... but sometimes, I think that he secretly misses it.

Alacrity has been instrumental in the Audalis project. He has been a creative force, an editor, a voice of reason. Much of the cohesiveness you see in our campaign setting can be directly attributed to his influence.

Alacrity has submitted many excellent articles, parodies, and ideas to the Inn's archives. He is as talented of a writer as I have ever had the pleasure to know - easily better than quite a few published, successful novelists. I coninue to hold hope that one day, he will pursue that novel, that he will earn the success he so richly deserves, and that I will be able to say that "I knew him when."

This man has been a rock, a solid presence that we could always count on - that we have taken for granted far too many times. Over time, many of those core staff members have faded into less active roles at the Inn. I myself have flaked out numerous times, gone missing for weeks (or months), yet Alacrity has always stayed here and kept things in order.

From time to time, people feel the need to thank me for creating this site. That's gratifying; I'm glad that you enjoy the Red Dragon Inn. That being said, I have always felt that the true value to the Inn was in the community itself - in our gamers, in our PEOPLE. I have long believed that the community is an organic, changing thing, that people come and go, and that we may cycle up or down, but will always continue, will always be the Inn.

When all is said and done, I honestly don't know how the Red Dragon Inn could long survive without Alacrity. I appreciate his contributions more than he may ever realize, and I hope that the rest of you appreciate him, as well.

I am sending PMs to each player to describe the duties of your new MBD (mandatory bonus duty) roles - i.e. team leader, happiness officer, etc.

These roles essentially give each of you a unique way to stab everyonen else in the back.

Topic: Why is it...
Subject: why?

Because heroes are usually good guys, and most players like to be heroes most of the time. "Look at all those townspeople we killed! Mwuhuhuhuhahahahaa!"

Because bad guys tend to stab each other in the back, whichi leads to fights at the table and to hurt feelings.

I have played in an all evil game and had a blast with it.

I am running a Paranoia game right now; while it's not necessarily about being evil, players are encouraged to rat out their teammates for treason (real or imagined), which gets said teammates executed.

I would agree that variety is good... but my above posts have a lot to do with why this is often not the case.

The Computer pauses for a brief moment at Blowz's words.
"Indeed, Citizen," it replies. "Take care to be punctual, however, lest you slip into inefficiency while trying to prevent it in others."

Soon, the Computer turns its attention back to the task at hand.

"You all must immediately report to a briefing where you will be told all about this highly enjoyable task. The Computer is your friend. Trust the Computer. Don't tell anyone. Don't let anyone know."

If any of you bothered to glance out at the cafeteria, you will notice that quite a few clones have noticed your group with your heads under the table. Suddenly, every available speaker roars with the Computer's voice.

STOP THAT!!!

A hush falls over the cafeteria, and all eyes now pointedly look away from your team - though it is certainly impossible that they are unaware of your presence.

The Computer resumes its instructions.
"Get to Section 168 of Sector SWR, out the door and take a left. NOW. Thank you for your cooperation."

The speaker falls slient. Dweebs continues to hang around your table, though his eyes are also focused elsewhere.

You choose by what makes sense for your story. If you are after an evil wizard, he might have onstrous or undead minions. He might have a paid ban of thugs and retainers.

If you are trying to rid the valley of an ogre tribe, then you have ogres and perhaps their allies.

If you are in a desecrated graveyard, you have skeletons, zombies, maybe ghouls.

If you are doing a classic dungeon... well, almost anything goes. It's a cliche that is a bit of an inside joke, that a dungeon can hold any number of different monsters for no real reason.

Well, then, write out an outline of your story. Come up with your NPCs, and go ahead and stat out any possible encounter monsters and such ahead of time.

Note cards are great; do what you can to minimize having to look up rules in mid session.

You might want to simulate a battle round or three ahead of time - just to get a feel for what dice to roll when, and how it ought to flow, before you get your players around a table.
