I think it has to do with it being something you did once you were bound together by the bible. I do not know.

PG 13 is intact. Mal walked in on Kayley and Besser in the series. It all depends on camera angles.

I think you need to channel your inner John. Yelling would be acceptable. Trying to "break them up" might work or even "Umm ... Captain ... I have a ... situation!" on the comm. You might call the guys to help. Calling Willow is possible but you know she is all the way outside and not prone to carrying a comm.

Or there is always the Porn film solution. Walk in, act surprised, join in.

Getting to know each other in a biblical fashion is a another way of saying having sex.

LV-426,Outside of Rocinante 7:00 am PT

Willow looked around at the passengers of the cruise liner. They all seemed so lost and out of place on this undeveloped planet in their now dirty finery and outfits. Captain Havlock and Lord Hood were moving around to each grouping of people, speaking to them and trying to keep them calm. The young ladies that all looked the same and dressed the same were clustered around the lady who was there guardian. Willow did not know her from the society circles but she had been out of touch for awhile. The girls were not related, that much was sure, although one was most likely the Lady’s daughter.

Portia Amber was trailing Lord Hood, chatting him up and smiling broadly. No doubt the Lord was a good catch as a wealthy single man. Meanwhile Amber Sunshine Amber was nowhere to be seen. She also did not see the young lady who asked about Fu Sheng nor Cameron Bridges, although some passengers had stayed in the cargo bay.

The band members clustered together and the small man with the case was pacing back and forth as the others attempted to calm him down. Willow turned to the monk on her arm and muttered in a low voice that wouldn't carry. "I'd start with that fellow."

Sifu nodded and the two of them walked towards the group. Fu Sheung whispered back, “I am not at my best right now, I have to admit. I can not ... feel what I would normally. I think it maybe is the injury is hampering my gift. However I can see he is clearly agitated.”

As they approach the small man immediately backs away behind the others and a tall, rather stout gentleman steps forward to greet Willow and Sifu. “Hello. I am Roland of the Star’s orchestra. Please allow me to thank you for your timely rescue and efforts. No doubt we’d not be here without them.” He says and smiles a smile that is sincere but his eyes flash concern for his fellow band member. Both Willow and Sifu can see that his shoulders tense as if fearing a fight but hoping for not.

(assuming some greeting back. Asking how they are doing)

“We are well. Hoping that we will be able to go home soon. Have you managed to get a signal out?”

(some positive affirmation that they are doing their best. Why is your friend so jittery?)

“Ahh... Well. He has something on his mind. He will be fine once the rescue team comes. “The big man replies and looks back at the other man, “Justin? Perhaps if you talk to these people you’d feel better?”

“You know I can’t Roland!” He calls back, hugging the briefcase protectively.

“Justin! This seems to be a special situation. I do not think a monk and a Doctor are trying to steal it?”

Justin shakes his head but then the others start to reassure him that it is okay. He seems to mull it over and then begins to step forward with the case still held tightly in his grip.

*SLAP*

“Ow! Why did you hit me?”

“You sir are no gentleman!”

“Of course not. I’m a physicist!”

Just as the musician was coming forward, a fight breaks out between two passengers. The commotion is between the lady with the young girls and the tall young man who fainted before in the engine room. The tall man is holding his face gingerly and the lady looks mad enough to kill.

“Why are you mad at me? I wasn’t suggesting a sexual relationship with you.”

*SLAP*

“Ow! Help Me! This lady is assaulting my face! Someone protect my face!”

With all eyes sudd3enly on the spat developing the musician slinks away behind the others again.

LV-426,Inside of Rocinante Cockpit 7:05 am PT

Tess had done as much as she could at this point. They would be needing her outside with the passengers or helping with repairs. She powered down her station and put the proximity alert on to her comm. Link channel so it would signal her if anything was coming nearby.

As Tess step through the kitchen, she smelled the pleasant scent of Ma’s cooking and saw the older lady working away, adding ingredients to her largest stock pot. A nice hearty soup would go a long way.

Tess continued down into the cargo bay. Most passengers had moved out but there was a young lady with a silver case still there. Tess then noticed the two men standing on the plankway, obviously watching the other lady. Tess didn’t like this for a second so she turned on her heels and watched over the girl. “Hey there. I’m Tess, pilot of Rocinante. You okay? Them fellas seem to have an interest in you.”

LV-426, Outside of Rocinante Cargo Bay 7:15 am PT

Wyatt and Ash returns and had a quick discussion with Wolf about the state of the ship. Wyatt was not keen on splitting up the crew right now but the situation demanded they watch the flock and fix the ship. No telling when help would arrive. Wolf and John would take a shuttle, leaving the mule here by the ship, just in case. The turbine would be heavy and need lifting anyway, possibly from a upper air shaft. But the captain did not want all his strong arms away from the ship so he told Wolf that Ash was to stay here unless he was truly needed and to keep the comm. lines open. So Wolf and Asher when off to gather up the weapons, ammo and the tools that would be needed, while John would warm up the shuttle and meet them in the engine room to gather equipment. Wyatt looked over to see Willow and Sifu seem to be dealing with a scuffle with a couple of passengers while Tess was talking to another passenger. The smell of soup cooking filled his nostrils and that was the highlight of the day so far.

John decided to take the shuttle over the damaged pod as it would have to be moved to do repairs anyway. Upon entering the doorway though he was greeted by a sight he was not expecting. A pair of passengers were in the shuttle and ....well getting very friendly with each other in a biblical fashion. John stood there for a second or two, more out of shock than any desire to watch what was going on. The girl was the one who had propositioned him early, Amber Sunshine he vaguely remembered. The man was older by far and John thought he had seen him talking to Willow before like they knew each other. John cleared his throat loudly and banged his fist on the doorway. Surprisingly, even though they both clear looked over and saw him, neither stopped what they were doing. It was like they were in some sort of sexual frenzy.

Well now, I have a lot of missing players. In fact, other than Teller, all my "new" players seem to have vanished on me. Now I understand busy, I really do and I think I play this game as laid back as a GM can be, but I expect an email or message once in awhile to let me know what is going on. I am running too many NPCs now and I want this game to move. Some have not posted since Nov and I have to beg for them to send me an email.

So I will be moving the game forward again tonight or tomorrow. John will go with Wolf, Tess will go with Willow to help outside and Sifu will "feel" a need to fine Jessie.

If I do not get a post from Loki, Celeste or Eol by the end of the month, I will consider them gone for good. I will manage the characters to the end or offer them to other players.

Ten things that my Son has taught me while I was teaching him:

1. People that judge do not think. They reach for judgement, hatred and fear instead of thinking and I do not have time to waste on people who do not think.
2. All behaviour is communication. Think about that for a moment because it took me awhile to understand what that means. My son has sensory perception issues, not a behavioural problem. His behaviour communicates the sensory issues.
3. Love is not a clean house, a well set table or a Rockwell painting. Love is accepting, honouring, hoping and being there to play Thomas yet again – without a “because”.
4. Sleep Deprivation can be dealt with a sense of humour, a strong will and a bit of whimsy.
5. I am much more patient than I have ever been in my life, either that or I have a thicker skin now. I would like to believe I am more open to new concepts and compassion. Unless you are getting in the way of my son’s progress – then all bets are off.
6. Trust my instincts. Doctors only have opinions, teachers work on a “typical” child approach and no one spends more time with my son than my wife and I. Never accept what the heart tells you is wrong.
7. Doing something is better than nothing. There are many ways that autism is treated and the disorder changes from person to person affected. What we are doing may not work for another, and so on. So I cannot tell someone that my way is the best way and no one can tell me that their way is the only method.
8. Giving up is not an option. My son will not give up. I will not give up. My family will never give up.
9. Being different can be beautiful. Normal is a setting on a washing machine.
10. Obi-Wan was right. Many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our point of view. My point of view has been permanently changed by my son, and that is not a bad thing at all.

Subject: Ramblings for a Superhero's Father

This is Autism Awareness month and I wanted to write a series of articles to increase awareness and to be informative. I live in Ontario, Canada and all references to wait times, money, etc are based on that experiences here. There are places in the world that are better and there are places that are worse.

I have often said that raising a child with autism is a lot like raising a child with super powers. They don't see things as we do, they don't hear, smell or taste as we do. They often have little control over their motor skills, but if you can somehow teach them control, they just might save the world. Take Ma and Pa Kent, raising a young super Clark who must have found his hearing and vision overwhelming. I would be sure that they, on occasion, likely often said in any autism household, wondering aloud, "How did he get that on the ceiling?" or “he did what with what? Is that even possible?”

Autism is a neurological disorder that causes sensory perception to be wildly different from that of a neurotypical child (that means normal but to say your child is not normal is not ... well, normal). They can have senses that are much more sensitive than usual or have problems getting their senses to work at all. What would you do if suddenly you could not feel your hands? You might flap them around? Hand flapping is a common symptom of autism. What would you do if every sound came to you as loud as if your Ipod was on full blast? Cover your ears? If that didn't work you might bang your head in frustration or shout out in anguish. But no one else hears it like you do so you are just having a tantrum in a public place for no reason. Would that be hard to deal with? Now imagine it every day, every minute of your life. Not sure I could deal with it, how about you? That child in the store wailing away as if the world is ending - might just actually feel like it is and he cannot turn it off or shut it off or make it stop.

Autism is a Spectrum disorder (ASD mean Autism Spectrum Disorder). As a spectrum disorder it means that there are so many variations of symptoms and manifestations that doctors have to and rule out before delivering a diagnosis. There is no blood test, no early screening before birth – and they have no real idea what causes it or why. There is a saying in the ASD community that if you have met one child with autism, then you have met just one. No two children are alike or exhibit the exact same symptoms. The characteristics of symptoms are categorized under Socialization, Behavioural and Communication (I will not list the symptoms here, but for examples see www.autism-society.org/about-autism/symptoms). The severity of the disorder can range anywhere from mild to severe. Conditions like Epilepsy and low Serotonin levels are often hand in hand with autism.

The last I heard, autism was now occurring in 1 out of 88 children. A recent report suggested to it is now 1 in 50 but I am not too confident of the data collection of that model. It really doesn't matter what the number is - it is getting worse every year. Getting help for your child with autism is not easy. We have waited a year just to get him into his first therapy program. It would have taken us two years to get the assessment done so we could be on the waiting list for programs. We didn't wait the two years of course, we ended up paying to have an assessment done, but that isn't an option for everyone. The cost of a private assessment is $2500-$5000 on average. I have heard of some people cashing out twice that amount too. If you want to skip the line and go privately for therapy, they you are looking at an estimated $60-$70k per year. Yes, there are a lot of people making a lot of money off autism. Oh, by the way, the Ontario government funding to help you with that is no longer available but there is a waiting list you can join if you want to see if it gets renewed one day.

There are many types of therapies and programs for Autism but the only one that the Ontario government will fund is called ABA (Applied Behavioural Application). It is an operant conditioning method based on training ASD kids to respond through a series of rewards. It has a 50% success rate as not every child responds to it. There is also speech therapy (More than Words) to help increase verbal responses and occupational therapy to help with gross/fine motor skills. Some combine all disciplines and teach it to the parents because we are with them the most (IMPACT). There are some that work on a change in diet (gluten/casein-free), some that work on massage and pressure points and even hug therapy. I am not going to say which is best and which isn’t because – all children with autism are different. If something works for someone else, who am I to say they are wrong? There are success stories of children learning to deal with their autism and so much so that they appear to be neurotypical to most. Some claim cured but that is not true, at this point no one is cured, but they can learn to cope, and learn to embrace their differences.

My son, Incrediboy as we call him here, is autistic and is on the mild end of the spectrum. We have taken the IMPACT and the More than Words programs to help him cope and I am happy to say that every year we have more progress with him. He begins Social Skills 1 today at Surrey Place just as he is beginning to ask to have friends over or play with other children. He is verbal now, starting to socialize and is dealing with his autism. He is only five so we have a long way to go, but we have come a long way already.

I started this article with the intentions of writing a series of informative notes on various topics that would help raise awareness and express some of my thoughts on the challenges. But I came to realize that I do not have enough time to do so and that given the choice between time spent with my family and writing, I will take family every time. This is one of the reasons I do not attempt to blog about my autism journey. There will be plenty of information and awareness posted today by others, and I encourage you to read an article or three. If you have a question, feel free to ask, if you are on a similar journey, feel free to reach out.

Out in the Black, Somewhere, Sometime

“WHAT DO YOU MEAN WE LOST IT????”

“It’s gone Captain! Some gorram idiot must have jammed it from the source.” The blond lady at the pilot seat worked on boasting the signal.

“Do they know where we are?”

“Unlikely. Probably a twitchy tramp Freighter whose instincts are jam everything.”

Captain Black swore a blue streak in several languages. He couldn’t afford any more screwups on this. Not even with this much money on the line. “So are we humped?”

The pilot smiled mischievously, “No. The message said they were damaged. Only one place to go around these parts.” She pointed to the screen, “LV-426. Terraformed stage 2 moon.”

“We’ll have to search the moon?”

“Would you prefer to search the black? Captain. Besides, all them rich folk have personal signal devices. I can home in once we are in atmo.”

Bart grinned back, “Yeah. Nancy, that gives me an idea. I have a cunning plan.”

Rocinante sometimes is a bit slow as I have a family with a special needs child, Albert has serious injuries that are still healing, Ody is looking for a job, Vanadia travels every week for work, Loki has school, Robert's work is hectic and Bromern has a blended family of ...100 kids? 200? I lost track.

Either way we go through slow periods when things get busy and we work around it. But Rocinante is still flying. Ain't much but its enough.

“Miss… you need to step back.. that mule don’t kick but it is might heavy. I’d hate to see it do you harm.”

As she stepped back he continued, “It ain’t nun a my business but I figure you need to know that that fella in the white suit wants to claim that case of yours. He wanted me to get it from ya; I as far as I care it’s legal salvage. But you should watch him and his two thugs.”

“Thank you young sir,” she said stepping forward, “It isn’t salvage though.” She said glancing down at the case and relaxing it from her chest and bringing it down to hold it normally by the handle.

“I am a classified courier,” she said softly as she stepped forward to only a couple feet from the young crewman, she glanced around as if seeing if anyone else was nearby that might overhear, “This case is my delivery. I was told to keep it safe and out of sight but thanks to the evacuation that is impossible unfortunately. If the man in the white suit is after whatever is inside,” she said glancing at the simple silver case, “Perhaps I should talk to your Captain. What do you think? Would he help me?”

“Well whatever you say, but it sure looks like courier is paying mighty well…….I’d say you best see Miss Willow before ya try to talk to the Capt’n.” Asher replied. The ruse was very transparent, but he didn’t really see the need to call her out on it.

Jessy saw she wasn’t getting anywhere with this underling so she sighed and turned and looked around the cargo bay.“Ok,” she said absently to the young man, “Thanks for your help.” As she looked around she saw the ship doctor coming out along with the monk and the older lady who had the thing for hoods. She watched the doctor move with grace and poise to the opening and saw the two bodyguards there as well, watching her without subtly . Thugs indeed

LV-426,Outside of Cargo Bay 6:45am PT

Willow, Trish and Fu Sheung came out to the Cargo Bay and out to where the passengers were clustering. Willow had tried to tell Fu to rest after the operation, but the monk would have nothing of it. He promised, with a gentle smile, to take it easy and not to start any fights. Willow had let Trish and Tess in on the news before coming out.

Trish spoke briefly with Fu Sheung after a few moments and then disappeared back into the ship. Large crowds were hard on Ma at the best of times and these certainly weren’t. Willow looked a question at Fu who said, “She wanted to use some of the foodstuff to make something for everyone. I believe she has a soup in mind – good for the body and soul.”

Willow looked around. A few passengers were still in the cargo bay or hanging around the doorways. She could nor Cameron, nor Portia and Amber. The two men that helped carry Sifu into the infirmary were near the entranceway of the ship, closely watching the young girl that had expressed concern for Fu Sheung.

Trained as she was, Willow looked for something, anything that might tell her of the spy they had among them. It was difficult though as so many were scared, out of their elements and unsure of themselves for the first time in their pampered lives. The only person who appeared in his element was the older Captain Havlock. He has staggered aboard the ship drunk but the crisis seems to have brought out a noble spirit in him, long buried under the alcohol and ... guilt. Yes, Willow felt a lot of guilt coming from that man, but guilt for being alive when so many of those he led are no longer.

Lord Hood was a bit of a mystery to her, as most Lords and Ladies would never get up to help another human being let alone be as useful as he was trying to be. The Hood line was known to her, and she knew he had no children and his wife was long passed away. Wealthy, of course, in agriculture and real estate he was known in the circles as a philanthropist. Willow father had dismissed him as being to “common”.

There was a group of very similar looking girls surround another lady, beautiful in her own right but old enough to be mother top at least one of them. The group of young men were watching them as well but they seemed to be harmless admirers more than anything malicious.

Among the other passengers, there was a man, dressed in an orchestra band uniform and carrying a silver case. He was very very nervous. He was looking around anxiously, watching the sky, getting up and then sitting back down. What was he looking out for? The other band members did not have cases and seemed to be less anxious than him, even speaking to him as if to calm him down.

(I am going to assume that Willow and Wyatt will tell the crew of the news quietly, Wyatt telling Asher, Willow telling Tess, and they in turn tell John, Wolf and Trish if you were planning a big meeting instead, I will change that part. Either way, the crew will know by the end of this post.
Basic summary – Tess has determined that somewhere out in the black is a ship, blocking you from accessing the cortex. Add to this that someone also tried to radio another ship but Tess jammed the signal before much got out, and you have a spy/inside man on the moon with you.

Sifu mysteriously knows that you have someone on the moon with you who wanted something off that liner and “it” is now on your ship. That person killed a lot of people to try and get it and they are more than willing to kill some more.)

LV-426,Outside of Cargo Bay 6:30am PT

Asher brought down the Hover mule from its mooring as Wyatt looked out on the purple sky and reddish ground and watched his “passengers” milling around. Most were scared, confused and had no idea what to do right now. But somewhere among the crowd was a person who meant harm to him and his own. But which one? Who could it be? Was it only one of them? The news that the monk had given did not sit well, and the fact that they were sitting ducks on this moon made it all the worse.

Captain Havlock approaches Wyatt cautiously, with Lord Hood following behind. When he first came abroad, Winston Havelock was drunk and stumbling but the time passed and events had cleared his mind and gait. He nodded a greeting and said, “Sorry to bother you Captain, but I wanted to ...well... to let you know that if there is anything I can do of service while we are here, please do not hesitate to ask. I may be an old fool now, but I would like to be of some use around here.”

(assuming some sort of acknowledgment and noncommittal acceptance)

“I say, by your choice of clothing I believe we were on the same side once. I don’t know what rank you held then, but as far as I am concern, you are giving the orders here. I remember back in Serenity Valley I had ...”

Lord Hood cleared his throat and put a arm on Havlock’s shoulder. “I think the Captain needs to be going.”

Havelock looks over to where Asher has pulled the mule up and out of the Cargo Bay doors, “Oh! Yes. Of course. Recon, a very good plan. Carry on Captain.”

The Lord steps back with Havlock and smiled sincerely at Asher and Wyatt before heading back to help the other passengers get settled.

(add anything you wish to say or do at this point)

Asher fired up the hovermule as Wyatt got himself into the seat and they began their circuit of the area. The air was warming up nicely as the sun rose on the light purple horizon. As the drove down the sandy airstrip where Rocinante had skipped, they can see the deep impression and molten glass where the bottom of the boat had burned the sand. The area was very flat in about a 2 kilometer radius, and the hills to the east were dotted with holes as John had suggested they would be, the first residences of the Terra-formers. The place was windy, but quiet. No signs of recent movement, or tracks of any sort.

To the south, the huge atmosphere processor loomed heavily in the landscape. Just the processor building was here, not the living quarters that would could in a number of years for the stage three. As they passed the enormous building, there were no signs of forced entry. Padlocks were on all the doors. Steel shutters locked down on all the windows. It appeared that you were very much alone on this planet.

LV-426, Rocinante Bridge 6:30am PT

Tess worked her way through the sensors and tried to find out what she could. Nothing was setting off then thermal sensors, nor the long range motion detectors. The system wasn’t really made for on surface scanning though. It seemed like there was no one home. But the shielding of the Atmospheric processor could hide an army and the caves would be almost as effective so Tess could not be completely sure.

The static of the cortex signal continued and Tess could not do anything to get pass it. She had tried many methods to send a signal out, but most would be so slow or so faint that it would be a miracle if anyone got them. One hope she held on to was the escape pods from the Cruise liner. They would have been carrying beacons and sent off in multiple directions. If the Blocker was chasing Rocinante then one of those beacons had to get out of range soon.

Rocinante Infirmary, 1:10 am ST
Fu Sheng opened his eyes and looked around the room. Willow was there at his side looking worried but serene at the same time.

"Have we landed?" The monk asks weakly.

(assuming an affirmative reply)

“I must speak to the Captain immediate. It is of the utmost importance.”

(assuming a You need to rest and the captain will come you soon)

Sifu hand grasped Willows arm firmly but not harshly. It was as if the importance of what the monk was trying to say was telegraphed in the single action. “No Miss Willow. What I have to say may well hold the balance of life or death for everyone on the ship.” He said and released her arm.

Willow nodded and reached for the intercom.

Rocinante Cargo Bay 1:30 am ST

Asher opened the cargo bay door to a bluish purple sky slowly turning bluer as the dawn approached. The sun was coming on the horizon, Bai Hu - the centre of the ‘verse for the alliance. The air was cool but warming yet it seemed... odd, a bit thin and lacking the scent of vegetation – like the world was actually an air-conditioned building. The hills in the distance were a reddish-brown as was most of the land around but pockets of lichen and ground cover were easily seen.

In the distance was the huge building that housed the atmospheric processors that were used during the first stages of terra-forming. Lights shone from light and beacons attached to the building so it had power for sure. People began to come out of the ship and mill around, not really knowing where they were going but feeling a need to get out of the cargo bay. It was pretty cramped n there with so many people and the air was a bit stale. Wolf had pulled off a miracle of his own by rigging the scrubbers to work with so many people, but the big mechanic wasn’t looking around for an ovation. Asher looked over his shoulder and saw Wolf and John coming with toolkits in hand.

*Changing over to Planet time*

LV-426,Outside of Atmospheric Processor B2 6:30am PT

Wolf and John left the ship to do a walk around and check the damage. Although they were dreading it, the walk around had to be done.

The Primary Buffer Panel was still intact. Debris from the Cruise liner had severed the cabling and connectors but the panel was in good shape still. It would require re-cabling and welding but all was doable.

The core would take a few hours to cool down before Wolf could be sure but he was certain that the containment jacket around the core was punctured and would need replacing. The jacket (a mechanical sandwich of lithium alloys, boron and plastic) was panelled and Wolf had a few extra panels to use. Hardest part of that would be the waiting.

The port side drive pod was still there. Had it been sheared off completely, the chances of getting off the planet would have been slim to none. The side of it looked like a Giant for Earth That Was long past came along and kicked it hard with a steel boot. Then was an indentation in the exterior panel the size of the hovermule. The turbine within had half of its blades ripped off or mangled beyond salvage. The drive shaft was intact but without a turbine, it was useless. The doors that seal it for space flight were destroyed as well. John and Wolf both looked to the Atmospheric Processor in the distance and exchanged a smile. If anything had a lot of different turbine in it, that would be it.

There was minor damage to the hull from the bounce but not that would affect flight worthiness in the short time. The landing had been so good that the landing gear were fine – Something that John and Wolf had expected ripped off by the impact.

So it was a mix of good news and bad news. The worst part was time because there was no way they were going to get the ship to lift off in less than two days, possible three. They would have to cut away all the damaged drive pod first, then find a turbine, and then seal it all back up.
