Topic: Destiny Flight - QnA
Subject: Hello all

Once again I apologize for the delay in posting. I have been having some medical issues and well, learning to deal with them. Serious? probably. Let's just say that I should be taking things more seriously.

Anyway. the show must ... you know. So I will be posting to all my games today and tomorrow.

Questions?
How much more can we push Destiny?
You can red line the engines and say "hey we are going to go for 13 on the burn" You can try anything, the skill checks just get higher and higher. Grace will be rolling for formidable on the engines and Tess on the helm. One set of double 1's and the engines will buckle and whine. 2nd botch and something serious will happen to engines. So if you plan to do this, I'd use plot points.

Did you want me to post the live wave bit before your GM post or after?
Ummm.... Not really. What Ody gave me will work to get the message part going. I would like to get things moving.

Subject: oh yeah

I fully intend to encourage this project. I also plan to have the neighbouring "lords" suddenly becoming interested in the land since there is no major monster threat to them anymore. Perhaps the King will decide that they don't have claim to the land and award the deed to a hedge knight looking to prove himself. They may even attract knights who want to serve a good lord in this land of self-serving knights and robber barons.

But they got to build a castle and that requires gold.

Subject: Building a Castle - Costs and Concrete

So, my tabletop party has finished a campaign in a ruined castle and made a decision that "hey, why don't we build a castle here as a home base?"

Well they will have to deal with the monsters in the forest, the drow in the basement and the mindflayers in the secret area they have yet to discover - but assuming they survive that....

How much does it cost to build a castle? Does anyone know of any good source material on the topic - doesn't matter what edition of rules. I remember there was a chapter or article I read a long time ago but I don't remember where. First edition AD&D? Dragon magazine? White Dwarf?

Anyway - would love to hear thoughts on the matter. I mean the foundation is still there but there is a 40 foot hole in the floor leading to a cavern they may want to patch up.

Subject: seem to be the age

I have reached an age where many of the grand parents and uncles are getting older and we are attending a lot of funerals. Circle of Life I guess. This one was particularly hard because the gentleman who died was married to his wife for 55 years and they absolutely were in love and devoted to each other. Lots of kids and grand kids though to help support the mom but still difficult to imagine being with someone so long and then they are gone.

Funny, I did write about a post in response to your first inquiry about the white lady. Wonder what happened to it?

Yes, everyone has seen it/her. There are places on the ship where she frequents a lot and those are the the places where the coolant system has venting - so you decide if she is real or not.

I don't travel pass the 49th parallel too often. But the concept of people charging as a DM just completely blew me away. Of course with tablets and skype and webex I think that virtual games would be very doable today.

I hope that you have steady DM now.

Destiny Bridge, Day One of Journey, 11:30 - 2am ST

The news of the key and all it implies weighs heavily on the minds of the crew but you are out in the black and little you can do about it now. Turning back really isn't an option with a big payout on the line. so the dinner and dessert is eaten and everyone goes about their business for the evening. As his normal routine, the Captain takes first watch on the bridge so Tess can get some shut eye. Not that the captain is much of a pilot but this far out the auto can handles the flight and mostly all he does is watch the lights flicker on the monitor. Destiny is a good ship, faster than almost anything one there, except some short range interceptors and the alliance big guns.

As the night moves on, the Captain suddenly realizes he is not alone as a mist swirls to his left and he sees the lady in white that haunts to ship appear. She is looking toward the front, towards the stars and the black. She seems a little sad to Jon's eye, as if waiting for bad news. The mist swirls a bit and she fades away again as she always does. It is only after a few moments that Jon remembers that she has never appeared on the bridge before, normally only where the coolant vents are throughout the ship.

Destiny Cargo Bay, Day Two of Journey 9:00am ST

In the morning, Grace is up and wheeling the Doctor's x-ray equipment over to the wine barrels. She moves with the intensity of purpose that brokers no objection and anyone in the cargo bay soon moves out of the engineer's way as she is setting up.

After several shots at different angles, Grace has a 3d image of the casks in hand. She looks at them confused at first as they show the interior of the casks have a hourglass shaped chamber that holds the wine with the cask. The hollow area is around the centre of the cask and appears to be filled with wines, roots and dirt. But as she expands the image is finds packets hidden within the these vines. The packets are filled with many hard objects with a crystal like structure. Diamonds!

(Assuming Grace will tell crew at this point. Post from this point as the action below will happen no matter what)

Destiny Bridge, Day Two of Journey 1:00pm ST

Tess checks the navigation computer as lights on her console tell her they are entering the main shipping corridor. Alliance satellites and signal buoys ping off the pulse beacon of Destiny indicating that big brother is always watching.

About an hour into the corridor and the wave transmitter lights up. A live wave coming in - for the captain. Tess automatically checks the source, and it is a Courier ship, Arrowhead class, registered to the Lim Wine Corporation.

Downstairs near the dungeons

Feeling the guard's grip relaxed he didn’t hesitate as he knew his life hung in the balance; he jumped up ignoring the sore muscles that screamed at him, and yanking his arms free of the two behind him he moved towards the German in front of him. He is free for a moment, but the guards react quickly, grabbing him by his shoulders to drive him back to the chair.

However, fate is not without a sense of irony and both guards grips slide due to the cooking oil on Max's body. The harder they squeeze , the faster he pops out of their grip. He moves towards the older German to grab him by the shoulder and barrel him toward the guards but the Kraut moves fast for an old guy and slashes Max across the back with the jumper cables. However when he moves to slash at Max, he pulled one of the connections off the battery so Max was lucky to be moving.

Thinking quickly, Max rolled and did a fast foot sweep to bring his opponent down as he was drawing his gun. The luger was jarred out of his hand and skittered across the floor. The other two came in with lugers out and anger in their eyes. It was time for a risk or else Max would be captured. He charged towards and dove under the commander as he was getting up. The guards in their eagerness open fire without thinking of the consequences and gun down their own man. As the two recoil from what they did, Max leaps on them to bring them both down. There is a scuffle of hands, feet and knives drawn. Max strikes out blindly and with deadly intent. He breaks one of their noses, and manages to get his hand on the commander's gun. After a few seconds and few explosive rounds fired way too close for comfort, Max emerges from the melee alive. He breaths heavily for a minute or two and then forces himself to get moving.

The dead leave him with three lugers, five magazines full and one with 6 rounds spent. Three trench knives, a car battery and a pair of jumper cables. Not to mention a desperate need for a towel. The wound on his shoulder is painfully but not bleeding as bad as he expected.

Upstair moving down

Brutal takes the lead and head towards the circular stairs. As he does he brings up the shotgun and blows apart the suit of armour standing by the hallway. "It would've come alive or something anyways." He says to no one in particular.

As the team moves down the circular stairs the sound of the room collapsing echoes behind them and then there is an almost eerie silence. There is nowhere to proceed now except downwards and hope that Mrs. Hoffstetter is correct about the hidden exit. The captain finds some torches still in the scones of the stairways as you down. There are old, but would probably work, however you do have the light from the flashlights you found as well. The roundness of the stairs makes it hard to cover against anything that might be moving towards you. The Sarge and Brutal take alternating sides to get down the stairs. just as you are passing a doorway to the next level, you hear the sound of small arms being fired. The sounds are muffled, but nearby.

OOC: Marching order as I picture it is Brutal, Romo, Reid, Hoffstetter, McGuiness and Luke.

Max has taken 3 Wounds & 3 Stun. The 3 stun he can walk off after a bit of a rest. The 3 wounds will need attention eventually.

Topic: Audalis Dreaming QnA
Subject: mages and Armour

Mages do not wear armour of any sort. That is the downside of mages. Weapons are real restricted too (staff, dagger).

Now I use a mana based system for spells. You have so many mana points and you cast spells via those points. A first level spell costs one point. Second level 2 points. You get the idea.

Now Wan will start the adventure with 4 mana plus his bonus for INT which is 3 so 7 mana. That means he can cast 7 1st level spells a day. You do not need to memorize, you are assumed to be able to cast any spell in your book. So go ahead and cast 7 magic missiles if you want.

If you run out of mana (and it does happen) you can still cast spells - at the cost of your hit points. Same amount 1 for 1, 2 for 2 etc. However you can't heal that damage. You have to rest for 8 hour per hit point lost to get them back. Don't go to zero - it is a bad scene.
