Saw P4 on the weekend. Ahh....okay.

Better than 3 or 4. Not close to as good as the first. Overall the film was okay, there is plenty of action, some fun moment and it is a complete movie.

The editing is sloppy, the lighting is terrible (shot 90% in dark) and Cap't Jack is just not Jack enough. P. Cruz is wasted in this film as is Ian McShane. The whole film gave me a straight to DVD feeling, which a lot of disney sequels do.

No reason at all for the movie to be in 3d. A few sword shots but that is all.

The voice recorder mike would be similar to a cheap cellphone. So not very functional for recording conversation - anything beyond five feet would sound like the adults in a peanuts cartoon (wa wa wa wa wa wa).

Posted. Now Wolf, Andrew and Ash are together so I need your plan of action through the town.

Wyatt, Sam and Willow I just moved you forward as nothing would be happening and the mine is the opposite direction of the town.

Subject: Two Cowboys and a Companion walk into a mine......

Inside Rocinante, Regina, Frisco, Day Nine 10:45 pm Planet Time

The night was a clear one, and the stars filled the night sky with illumination especially with Alexandria, the moon of Regina shining full. Trish watched as three people she loved the most walked off to face danger. She had learned to trust her gut a long time ago, and her gut told her she’d see them again. Despite the nonsense the Captain said of taking off and selling Rocinante, she would have laughed at the idea if she could. You don’t sell family Wyatt. At least I never will. She closes the doorway and locked it but knew that locking it was as useful as using bad language. Anyone who knew anything could override a Firefly.

Although she’d never met this Brigit woman, Trish was sure she knew the type and she cast herself into the role. Schemer, con, opportunistic and a manipulator – what would she do if she was playing the character in a holovid? She’d be ruthless, have a backup plan on the backup plan and sure as Buddha she’d wouldn’t really plan on sharing anything. But she’d need to get the treasure out of a mine, and that requires help. It also required a ship and Rocinante was the only ship on a pad here.

She switched off light after light as she moved through the ship, shutting down all but the most essential systems – in case she had to fire things up fast. Despite the dark she moved with precise and speed, hiding a box of shotgun shells in the galley, and top on the catwalk in the cargo bay. She took a ball of yarn (hideous colour and acrylic) and wound it across the floor of the cargo bay entrance, around 6 inches off the ground and strung it through a flashbang on the opposite side. The effect wouldn’t do anything to someone who entered but it would alert her and distract them. She then loaded Bessy full, and double checked her extra shells and sidearm.

Someone was gonna try to take the ship. She felt it in her gut. But she wouldn’t let anyone take her home. A surgeon took her voice away long ago but in her mind she hummed a little tune.

You got a knife. I got a gun. Come on boys, we’re gonna have a little fun.

Heading to the Hornsilver mine, Regina, Frisco, Day Nine 10:45 pm Planet Time

The spaceport was quiet and there was no sign of life. Sam checked the doors to the building but they were all locked up tight. The only source of light beyond the stars were the automatic lights on the pads that came on when it was dark. Looking around, the town is mostly dark and very quiet. In the opposite direction, the mine and the mining house shines like a beacon, giving you a sense that someone is expecting you. The quickest route is the direct one across the grounds.

(assuming you are walking and keeping a sharp eye. It is about 500 yards away from the port authority)

As you get close to the mine entrance, you see that someone is there. A man stands next to the lift, smoking a cigarette and pacing. He has a sidearm holstered but doesn’t seem to be waiting in ambush – just waiting. As you draw closer, he looks your way and raises his hands to show no weapons. “You must be Captain Wyatt? Bailey sent me to help you. I’m Matt Cullen and I’m in charge of the lifts here. We’ve had a peck of trouble since you’se left here.”

Doc’s Place, Frisco, Day Nine 10:45 pm Planet Time

“Best you slip out the back door. I reacon your folk ‘ll be slipp’n in that way. You can watch from the shadows.” Doc stepped aside as Asher strode past him and headed out the back.” The Doctor said as Ash headed for the door. “Listen…I ain’t asking you to let yourself be hurt, but we had a lot of killing lately in this town. If there’s anyway – it mean the world to me if you could keep it to a minimum. Most people here are good people. Don’t let the bad apples spoil the barrel.”

The sound of the hovermule draws close and the muted lights become visible to the young man as they pull near.

(Assuming some conversation with Doc before leaving)

Wolf pulls the hovermule up to the doc’s house and Asher runs out and jumps into the mule. Ashe looks a question at Wolf and then at Andrew who he’s never met before.

Reaver’s Gulch, Frisco, Day Nine 10:45 pm Planet Time

“You sees them?”

“Yep”

“Well?”

“Well what?”

“We going now?”

“Hold your horses. Brigit said wait until they reached the mine at least. Don’t want them coming back do we?”

“Right.”

“Three of them, brigit said there were five and the Kid is dead, that means that Fenris guy must be the only one on the ship and he’s wounded.”

“The mechanic for Bailey? Easy pickins.”

“Yeah well best be cautious. I don’t like surprises.”

Frisco, Day Nine 10:45 pm Planet Time

Winnie keyed the mike on her handset, “She’s down. Three just took off for the mine.”

Darryl responded, “Okay. Yo’ sees anything else?”

“Someone is near Doc’s place bys the look. Saw some lights”

“Doc gets visits all time a night. Anything big?”

“Naw. Hope they come, I’m gorram bored up here.” Winnie whined.

“Don’t worry sis. They’ll come and we’ll get them. We’ll get them good for what they did to Grant.”

I thought Darren was being funny with the metagame comment - hence the happy face.

I encourage the exchange of ideas and thoughts on the QnA as you may think of an action that the character would think of, but not the player. So feel free. I don't believe in the "you can't tell him that because it isn't your character". I am not a 20th level elflord mage so I might miss something that another player spots.

Metagaming really only happens when a player acts on knowledge that the character does not have and right now, there is none. You are all at the table.

Standard fees for running simple cargo for a job like this would be around 250/day creds or 2250. He is offering close to double but he is asking for special service (fast). Hauling wine is not illegal, but there are tariffs involved so you may want to ask if they will be taken care of.

It would not be unusual for players to stay out of the dealing if they have no forte in it. You can still post thoughts and impressions or even intentions (Going to check this guy out on the cortex, Will ask around to see what people know of this guy, starting with Tony, going to call my contact and check on that courier, etc etc)

Subject: You got the brawn, I got the brains, let's make lots of money

"It might be but speed can be expensive." Ken said abruptly.

“My apologies, I am Jason Siong and you are?”

“Norman. Norman Sellers. That's me. Nice to meet you Jason.” He smiles and introduces himself to each of you.

Jason continued, “What my friend here was trying to say was yes, as a matter of fact you have managed to find the crew of the black ship outside. Yes, she is fast, but as far as how fast that comes down to you sir. Now, if you’d please have a seat I’m sure that we can come to a mutually beneficial arrangement.”

Jason returned to his seat, and signaled the barkeep for a small round for Jon, the client and himself, and Jon breathed a sigh of relief as he pushed his cup of unpalatable swill over towards Ken's side of the table. As Mr. Sellers made himself comfortable at the table, Jon extended a hand.

”Jon Brown, I captain that black beauty you were referring to.” Jon introduced himself with a grin, ”You said you were looking for a fast ship, and I assure you whether you'll hauling casks or wine or outrunning a reaver boarding party, there's no ship you want save mine. Now I'm not sure why you need wine moved so fast, and I'm sure you can talk plenty about it, but I always found credits talk all for themselves, so what say we cut to the chase here. You give us a where, when and a price, and we'll get to makin' it happen.”

“Well that I can do and it is good to hear.” The man looks around nervously and then speaks to the barkeep as he comes up, “Tony, can you get a bottle of the Bin 47 for us? Make it two and put it on my tab. Yeah, thanks.” He looks around the room once more. “You might as well taste what it is you are hauling right? Right? Or I hope you'll haul. Cause I need someone to haul it. Right?” he says with a broad smile looking at all the people at the table. He stops at the sight of Grace’s sore face. “Whoa. Listen babe, whoever you think I killed, it wasn’t me. I make wine and that’s all. Grape stains only right?” He says with arms stretched out and a humorous grin - a valiant if misguided attempt to be funny.

(assuming that the mechanic doesn't kill your client)

Tony brings out two bottles of wine with enough glasses for all, uncorking the wine and pouring a hearty sample for all. Norman takes his glass gives it a slow sniff and then downs his entire glass. “Yeah – that’s a good batch. Anyway…where was I?”

(Assuming someone gets Norn back on track. The wine is excellent for those who have a palette for fine wine. Even if you don’t it is pretty good and you see by the label and the menu that it is usually 100 credits a bottle)

“Right. Right. Okay. Right. You see, there is a lord on Osiris, good friend of mine actually. Well more of a business associate. Long time...yes. Baron Otello and I have had an arrangement for years where he throws this really big social event, you know like a gala, and he serves my wine. Cause it is the best in the Verse, that is what he says at least. I think so too but I have to be modest. I mean I spent a long time working out the acidity of the soil versus the natural climate of Greenleaf and how certain fertilizers are best used under the weather system that we have here …”

(Assuming someone gets Norn back on track)

“Right. Right. So anyway. Right, my usual transport was suppose to be here three days ago and they haven’t shown up.” He looks around the room again as if he expects to see them walking in, “ Not a word, not a wave, nothing, notta, zilch, zippo. Now that ain’t right? Right? Deadlines are important right? And the party is 10 days away right? And well – I need to make other arrangements right? But it is not like freelancers come to Greenleaf. You can’t even stop to refuel unless you have seven levels of clearance and 20K in your petty cash. Right? Right? “ Norn stops to refill his glass and suck it down in a single gulp again. “So I’m thinking that I’m gorram humped when I see that you are here. So this makes things right. Right?“ He finishes off the bottle into his glass, “Tony! Bring another! Please! Thank you. Right.”

(assuming some conversation, question and getting to the topic of money)

“Right. Right! Sorry I’m not used to doing this last minute deal deal as I said we have had an arrangement for awhile now and they didn’t show. Which ain’t right. Right? So can you get to Osiris in 9 days? If you can then I’m willing to pay you 2000 credits up front and you will get 3000 when you arrive in Osiris. You can wave the Baron’s man on Osiris to check – wouldn’t want you to think I’m not being straight up right? Right? How’s that sound? I can have the casks brought by this evening. Oh! Right! Tickets! I can swing you all tickets to the Baron’s party. That would be amazing right? It's the must-be-at event of the year right? Do the smoozing, networking and connecting for the jobs type of thing that you guys do? Right? Are we on? Deal?”

(Grace can do the math in her head and Tess knows from experience - you can do Osiris in 7 days, less if you go at full burn, but you'd arrive with empty fuel tanks. He's definitely in a jam cause a firefly wouldn't make it at full burn)

Subject: The place is dead

The guardhouses are empty.....

There are signs of that men were here before. One gatehouse contains a radio set, a potbelly iron fireplace that is still warm to the touch. The other is sparsely furnished with a simple wooden chair, pushed back as if someone got up in a hurry.

No guards what so ever. Corban saw no movement in the towers of the castle in his scope. The place is quiet except the sound of the wind through the trees. The team searches the interior of both buildings and find nothing - not even the logbook that the other station had. "This is highly unusual, " great says quietly, "Even if called away, one man would have stayed behind."

There isn't much time until dawn, and if the team is to get across the bridge and into the castle under cover of darkness, there is little time for mysteries.

The bridge is very old and plain. It is made of old shorn up wood beams held by chains attached to the entranceway - much like a drawbridge. The chains creak in the wind, the rust eaten iron seemingly straining with the weight. A rotting wooden portcullis, green with growth, hangs in the entry tunnel to the ground beyond There are footprints on the bridge, fresh mud of boots running toward the castle at speed.

Looking down the edge of the precipice, you see nothing but rolling fog and darkness - but instinct tells you it is a long way down.

Subject: relationships

It is always a tough balance with a adventuring party or crew of a ship to establish relationship with players who are strangers. So Mysterion's question has merit. There will be bumps at the star tas you all feel each others playing and posting style out.

I would suggest that you go through each member of the crew character's sheet and think how your character would relate to that person? How would they adjust for behaviour, knowing they had to get along? Why would they argue? What would set them off? What would bring them together?

Take Tess and Grace. They are both women, the only two on the ship. Tess is superstitious, friendly and a bit quirky. Grace is twitchy, withdrawn and comfortable with machines. When chips are down they might work well, Grace foreseein gwhat Tess needs and Tess keeping Grace focused. Socially, Tess might be the one to draw Grace out of the engine room, or maybe they feud like sisters with Grace moving Tess's charms and Tess going into Grace's Room.

Don't be afraid to contact the player to establish relationships, just keep me in the loop. This game is really more about the characters than the adventure itself.
