Subject: The plan

No Ash would not be on board. The Plan was to fly to Newhouse, get the sheriff, fly to Regina, drop passengers/new sheriff off via shuttle so you could run to comet and get the ice and then return within a 14 day window, for which you were offered 3000 credits if you made the deadline. Ash was going to stay on planet, serve as sheriff and watch the shuttle while you are away. At the time we had lost Blammm and my thought were he'd just stay on Regina as sheriff after the adventure finished.

However we have a player now - Odyson has offered to take on the role of Asher. However we do have 4 years of history that he was catching up on and I have been bad about sending him summaries. Ash has never been annoying, he is a sweet nature boy with a heart of gold and a arsonal that would make Jayne jealous.

BTW - for the spacewalk, I am assuming that you will bring standard mechanic's toolkit. If you want to go armed, you need cases or they don't work. If you want fancy stuff, let me know.

Finding the problem outside the ship:

Wolf will be rolling d8(INT)+D12+d6(Mech Skill, plus leadership plus talented)+d6(1 Plot point)

Andrew will be rolling d12(INT)+D10(Mech Skill plus leadership)

Wonder if Olan's Die randonizer can handle this?

Subject: great quote

I recently joined a cortex rpg forum that has some of the game designers and editors on it. In a discussion on River as a PC as she was in the movie(not the playable version in the book), the lead editor said:

River's one of those characters that behaves a lot like an NPC who sits in the corner and occasionally says things the GM wants the PCs to know, and then when the GM's girlfriend or boyfriend is a guest at the game the GM gives them River and they manage to take down a room full of Reavers with an axe.

I thought that was a prefect description.

I forgot about the leadership question.

What is a session online? We have been playing for four years! Imagine the need for a potty break!

I would say that Leadership and other assets can be used once per "crisis" in an online game. So you may the asset for this instance and if you need it again on planet or on the comet, then you may as it is a different crisis. If the crisis changes drastically then you could use it again. For example, if Wolf and Andrew miss the explosive trap, blow a hole in the ship and the crew is being sucked into the Black, then the crisis has changed drastically enough that you could use leadership again.

Does that help?

Subject: Plot points revisit

So in the new rule, a plot point adds a die to the roll and the number of points is the larger die. (1 for d2, 2for d4, 3 for d6)

To me, I think a pp should be worth more than d2. So I was going with 1 point is d6, 2 is d8, 3 for d10 etc etc.

Assets and Complications were also changed to a die instead of a step increase. But I don't feel like redoing all the characters so we will leave them as is.

Believe it or not, I like when it is rigged for the players. Better the chances you will find the hidden explosives and not be sucked into the black....

Outside he is directly helping you so the rolls add up, less chance of a botch and faster completion time.

You need to find the source of the problem before you fix the parts, otherwise you could end up wit hteh same thing happening again.

Somewhere between Serenity and battlestar galactic the MW rules were generalized into the Cortex System RPG which made Assets a die and changed the plot points. Now I read these awhile ago and I need to look over them again, but the changes made assets and plots points more useful.

Subject: right but

Bromern is correct in his description of the plot point use but the Cortex rules changed the system after the serenity rules came out. Now a plot point add a skill die (so if your skill is d10, you get a d10) instead of a step up level. It makes the plot points more valuable as a step up in a die can still produce a roll of 1.

Let me double check the Cortex Rules as no one has used pp since I bought them.

Subject: Plot points

Plot points are points you are given for playing your character well, especially use of complications but assets as well. Now the most you can have to use is 6 at any time but if you use them then you can get some back later.

Examples of Wolf earning plot points:

getting in the face of biggs when leaving the spaceport (Chip on shoulder)

Refusing to back down to union gang (tough as nails)

Fixing the hovermule brakes as you sped to the bank robbery

So you will get more over time. Everyone is such a great player in this game it is hard for me not to give them out.

Subject: This is how it is

Wolf is facing a series of complex actions with a variety of Diffculty thresholds. Rebuilding the Grav Dampener is Formidable (75), rebuilding an Aft Alternator is Heroic (95). Finding the power problem outside the ship will just be Hard (55). Fixing it will be ... well you don't know yet.

Rolling complex actions you basically keep rolling your skill checks and adding them up until you reach the threshold. The number of rolls represents the number of hours taken to complete the task. If A botch is rolled (double 1's) then the difficulty level goes up by one level. Botch twice and you have a complete failure. Tann can choose to throw in any or all of his 6 plot points to any task to add a skill dice to the roll, but tell me ahead of time.

If someone directly helps Wolf then they can roll as well and move the time up. An example of direct help would be Bowman going out with Wolf to search for the power problem.

If someone helps indirectly then the two rolls are compared and the highest taken. An example of indirect help would be Sam assisting Wolf rebuilding the alternator. Sam can only assist, adjust the light, hand a tool, etc - he can't fix it at the same time.

There are some assets that allow you to add a bonus to someone's work (Leadership comes to mind).

You may transfer a plot point to a character to help them but there has to be an interaction. For Example, Willow steps up to where Wolf is working on the alternator. She puts her hand on his shoulder and smiles confidently at him (1 pp transferred).

So there you have it. Post if you got an idea or thought on how to help. I need to know if it is Andrew and Wolf going out or just Wolf.

You are really in a one way of another situation right now. Personally speaking, I would want to check the northern room so at least I know there in nothing going to creep out from behind you as you head east. But East is really your goal, the heart of the temple, and maybe some answers.
