Subject: New post

I was rushing my last post and failed to add a section for Willow meeting the town Doc. Instead of editing my post, i will just do a small additional post to fill the gap.

On Mules - Ordinarily, there is nothing on a hover mule that will go boom. It is an electrical vehicle with a g-screen to stay aloft and a basic turbine fans for movement. So you wouldn't expect te hovermule to explode

unless....

Some people rig hovermules for racing. To get greater speed, they add a hydrogen fuel cell, same as in the ship, and set up a home made system to "turbo boost" the engine. This is not a wise thing to do, it can be quite hazardous - similar to putting a NOX system into a car today.

I have this image of everyone standing around at the bank. Ethan looks at his watch, "When we gonna kill each other?"

Sam: "I'm thinking"

Ethan: "Nuthin to think about. You shoot first and miss, then I kill you dead"

Sam: "That be the part I'm thinking about!"

Hello Ms. Beyer. Welcome to the inn. I have made the change in profile name that you asked. Good to have you here.

I understand that you met my wife a while ago when she was visiting Texas. I am Alacrity, a good friend of Tann and i believe the reasons for him coming to the inn are apparent. It is a great community, with good people sharing a common love of gaming and role-playing.

Hope you enjoy your stay.

I love reading rule systems so send them my way. I rarely got thtough a system without taking away something new.

I played Shadowrun briefly for awhile - is the Cyberpunk similar to that?

Subject: Rules lacking

The rules are really lacking for ramming or attacking vehicles. This is one of many problems I have with this system that I have to work out my own rules.

Anyone read the Battlestar Galactica Rules that have come out supposedly using the same system as Serenity? If they are the same or similar, I may want to look them up to see if they are of any use. BSG would have to have ship to ship combat.

I had to do the map up in Corel as I don't have a scanner available.

The Frisco Bank

The front area is a porch. The Light mule is parked outside of it. Each square is 5 feet. The wall with the teller windows is only five feet high.

Jokes will lead to deduction of Plot points.

I think that Maximus must be insane with grief too if he thinks lizards are attacking. I'm quite sure that lizards are the one thing I haven't thrown at you.

Oh and by the way - Max killed a thri-kreen and an ankheg. Although I am sure that all bugs look the same in the heat of combat.

Oh, one more thing - Alloryn falling is the least of your worries Adrian... Dawn approaches

Subject: Plot Points

Plot Points as Bro said, are points you use to help yourself do something, or save your a$$ in combat. Everyone starts with 6 and you gain points by playing your character well, especially playing your complications.

Every point point you spend give up a step up on a die added to your roll. so if you spent one point, you get a d2, if you spend 2 points you get a d4 3-d6 etc etc.

If you are wounded in combat, you can "adjust" the damage downwards the same way. Note, this has to be done immediately upon being wounded, not three posts (by me) later. Now I tend to be liberal and give 2 points recovered per die, but that is me.

As I said, everyone gets 6 to start. As I said you all have gained some more for great playing.

Wyatt - 9
Willow - 9
Asher - 9
Sam - 3 (used 6)
Fenris - 6 (just started)

Now when this campaign ends, if you have more than 6, you use the difference as advancement points to raise skills or even stats.

As to "giving" plot points - According to the book, you can do that since you have Major Leadership as an asset, as long as the goals are the same. I would rule this is the same.

As for PP for ramming, hold on a bit. You won't get to ram in this round of posting, so see what Grant does first before deciding on that. Asher is a damn fine shot and you just gave him a +2 step bonus with leadership.

Subject: Error

I made a math error on the damage to Sam and added the initial wounds twice. He is at 8 wounds, not 11.

Robert has the option of dialing back the damage with plot points. If he does, the wound will be a deflection off his ballistic vest, leaving a massive bruise but not a vital wound.

I owe most of you some PP for character playing. You have all been doing a great job so far and I shouldn't be so stingy.

I have to say that the combat system in Serenity is quite deadly. Death can be quite quick and abrupt, which I suppose is realistic, but since I am a dyed in the wool D&D player, surprises me ever time I play it out.

Subject: Thems the brakes

Time 1:25 pm

The Mule

Wolf opens the panel to allow access to the guts of the mule. He didn’t have high hopes of a fast fix at this point, not knowing why the brakes had failed.

"Fenris, you're my ship mechanic now, an' my ship mechanic don't fail at things. That's just unacceptable. So, we'll sit tight while you remedy the situation, and Asher pulls us nice an' steady up to the hitchin' post. Then we can all proceed on with the doin's of helping Sam out of whatever pinch he's managed to get himself into, and be back to Rocinante in time for Trish's dinner bell."

The words of the Captain, said so self assured, filled Wolf with a sense of confidence. He looks into the panel and sees the problem immediately, the hydraulics have been torn up – most likely by the instruments of the band. Brakes still work fine but the controls are gone. He needed a replacement – but what could he use? The answer came in a flash as Asher hit the air horn to warn the other mule. Using the tools he keeps on him, Wolf makes short work of rerouting the compressed air for the horn into the hydraulic control of the brakes. It was an ugly fix, but it would work long enough for them to stop without crashing.

Asher gave as much room as he could to the other mule and the other driver at least had the smarts to quickly move to the side. As they pass, the wake of the mule causes the Stage to sway badly, but the driver manages to correct the vehicle and pulls to a stop at the side before the Stage flips over.

“Asher!” Wolf calls out, “Try the horn - it’s the Fay-Fay Duh Pee-Yen brake now!”

Asher hits the horn and sure enough, the vehicle starts to slow as if he hit the brake. He turns to shout an affirmation to Wolf when a bullet passes close to his ear. The Kid snaps his head back to see the glint off a gun barrel. Outside the bank is smaller mule – parked with engine going. Inside the mule, someone with a rifle is shooting at them. Wyatt sees the mule as well just as Fenris closes the hatch and scrambles back to take the driver’s seat.

OOC: Range Mule to Mule is 250 feet and closing. Mules serve as medium cover

Outside the Bank
Grant pulled the mule up outside the bank and put the engine into idle so they’d be ready to take off at a moments notice. He kept an eye out in case anyone took notice of them. Ethan wouldn’t take kindly to him if he let some townie get in the way with the job.

Looking down the street, Grant notices something was heading up the street. He raised his rifle to his eye and flipped open the scope to get a better look. A heavy mule was coming fast, almost knocking over another in the process. “Wuo duh Ma!”, he exclaimed and quickly fire a shot at the driver, hoping to spook him off. Grant missed and quickly grabbed the handset on the dash, “We’ve got company!” He shouted, and prepared to fire again.

Inside the Bank

“Missed one, Humpface”

Jones turned surprise to see a derringer pointed at him. He tried to throw himself back to avoid the shot, but he was too close and Sam was too good of a shot. Jones is hit directly in the heart at close range; killing him instantly as his body slumps over backwards from the impact.

Sam forces himself to move past the pain of his injuries. He reaches out with his left hand and closes his fist around the colt in the dead man’s holster.

“What the ..” Ethan fires at Sam. The gun makes a brief “paf” noise and the world explodes in Sam’s right shoulder. It is a vicious wound that almost causes him to black out as Sam is thrown back with the impact but somehow manages to hold onto the colt. Sam knows the end is coming, Ethan has him dead to right in sight.

Brigit flexes her back and springs upward to a standing position, kicking her leg high in the air and catching Ethan under his outreached arm. He loses his grip on the gun, sending it end over end into the air and clattering to the ground. As it hits the ground, there is a loud snap, and the high pitch whine rapidly shuts down to be replaced by a crackling.

Ethan backhands Brigit hard in the face. The blow is hard enough to send her backwards a distance to trip over the table and fall face first into one of the overstuffed chairs. She does not get up.

Without a moment’s hesitation, Ethan goes for his twin Pythons. A communicator on his side activates and a voice shouts out “We’ve got company!”

Working on the Vault

“See! Told you it would short the vault control.” Jake observed after opening up the cortex box.

“He slapped me! I was just having fun.” Elway moaned, still rubbing his face.

“Never mind that. Disable the power to the router while I connect this override.”

Elway brought the clippers closer, “Red then blue?”

“Yep. Blue then red, finds you dead. Red than blue, will hold ya true.”

He clipped the wires and his brother immediately took out a small metal box and connected the leads. There was a brief whirl, then the bolts on the vault released.

“We’re in Boss!”

BLAMM…PAF…BANG…SLAP…

The two brothers looked up and over towards the ruckus, then went for their own weapons as the handset on their sides shouted out, “We’ve got Company!”

At Rocinante
“You must be JW,” Willow said loudly, taking his hands in her own and leaning in to air-kiss the startled man on both whiskery cheeks, As she did so, she said quietly, ”Best get your men together and follow that mule. We got a distress call from one of ours, and he was headed to the bank with your woman.”

JW was up on his feet, running calling out to people as he moved.

“Chad! Need your horse!”

“You got it, JW,” the man calls slipping off his horse and handing the reins to the elder man.

“Eliza? Your Hog’s leg?”

A short round lady with a old fashion engineer’s hat pulls her shortened shotgun off her back and tosses up to JW as he turns the horse around.

“Bailey!?”

“On it Boss! You do what you have to do!” Sacket calls back and JW is off like a shot towards town. Bailey starts to shout out orders to the people that re obviously miners, “Okay people. You heard the lady. Trouble brewing again.”

Willow heads towards the band members but her trained medical eye has already seen that their wounds are superficial, although the members are more than willing to be examined by Willow. The instruments however, are beyond the call of even the most trained medic.

OOC: Sam has now taken 12 points of stun damage and 8 Wounds. Your life total is 14 so you are not doing well. I am rolling an endurance roll each round at this point unless you wish to use plot points to “effect” the damage – which I would recommend highly.

Once again, be specific on what’s and when’s. If you are attacking, please specify weapon and how many shots you plan to fire (based on ROF) – given you will only have two rounds of combat in this post. Check your ranges on the weapons or you may be wasting bullets.

Oops -I made a math error on Sam's wounds. It was 8, not 11.

Second demonic possesion in two adventures for you guys - makes you wonder what the empire is up to?

Details in next adventure to follow.

Maybe Jal has a twin brother? Mal?

I need another day to do the combat for Rocinante. I'm not as quick with these rules as I am with some, and I need to plot the combat carefully. Hate to kill anyone without just cause now.

Robert - If and when Sam fires and grabs a gun, I am going to assume you will dodge the attack from Ethan already out and fully charged gun. You get a non-attack action without penalty due to being a fighting type.

Robert - What can I say? You get to write your death scene with Wynter. It is part and parcel of the game and I really felt that Jal was a tragic character that would end this way sooner or later. Feel free to have a dramatic ending with him and Wynter being united, perhaps even a fleeting moment when some of the party will see the two before they vanished.

Tann - double criticals with a vorpal blade.... Next demon will have to break that weapon. No, really - I hope enjoyed the moment.

Raven - Potion or healing? You have one potion of EH left but Arien has two.

Subject: I am so Sorry....

In the Air

The Mantis Warriors are moving in towards the writhing form of Alloryn. Jal mind is bend towards a fireball when the air is filled with whistling noise as the Thri-Kreen throw their crystal wedges at the mages. The first hits Jal deep in the chest, followed quickly by three more that bite deep into the mage’s flesh. The mage loses the spell he was casting in the realization that his life is now over, but hangs on to the fly spell.

“Valentine,” he shouted, spitting blood in the desperate need to communicate, “The girl! Mind the girl!”

Wynter is before him now, clear as the last day he ever saw her alive, It is time my love. You have just one last task. Follow me to the end Jal, we have a demon to defeat.”

The small mage lets go of the fly spell and with a smile plummets to the ground.

Adrian sees the death of Jal but is unable to stop it. As the diminutive mage falls, heit seems that he uses the last of his fly spell to fall at an angle, as if focusing on a specific place to fall – some final plan to his sacrifice.

Under attack, Adrian dodges a couple of attacks but one cuts him across the arm. He struggles to maintain his spell and manages to get the last syllables out to use a knock spell on Alloryn. The collar breaks off immediately and the green glow that surrounds the girl becomes stronger in the night sky. Her eyes fill with the green energy and she stands erect, almost posing like a vengeful goddess as she points her arms at two of the flying attackers and green energy shoots from her hands – incinerating both rider and mount. She looks over to Adrian across the night sky and smiles a ruthless smile, “You freed me. As a reward, I will let you live to mate with me.” She says is a deep cold voice. “Dawn is coming!”

Suddenly, Alloryn is wrapped in a globe of darkness, darker than the night. The screams from within the dark are filled with anguish, as if facing the worst fate of a lifetime.

On the Ground

Char rushes to get past the Ankheg and the Thri-kreen. As he dodges his way past the one that has dismounted (not the leader), he can see out of the corner of his eye, the creature draw the crystal wedges to throw at his exposed back. Char prepares to weave and dodge as best he can when Maximus comes out of the dust and attacks the insect with a powerful sideways slice of his vorpal blade that tears the monster in half, killing it instantly. Not stopping, Maximus throws himself without fear or thought of personal safety at the Ankheg mount. The Gladiator let out a mighty cry of war, lands with a powerful upwards cut; taking off the head of the Ankheg at the neck, then rolls out of the way of the bodies collapses.

Kilgim rushes to Arien as well, seeing the wound that the knight has taken and the blood flowing freely as well, he knows his good friend will need his help if he can only stop that commander.

Dapple runs a sprint and throws herself into the air, feet first towards the Mantis Leader. The attack misses the leader but she lands a solid blow on the Ankheg mount, breaking through carapace. She tumbles from the attack to avoid a viscous bite from the giant insect. The Thri-kreen does not attack Dapple but uses its staff to cast a spell skyward.

Dalmer slams his demonic arm into Arien’s chest and the knight stumbles backwards in pain. The commander is about to smash it into the Knight’s face when Char comes up behind him moving fast. The Green gestures with his hand and Char is frozen where he is, stuck as if held by a giant invisible hand. “Perfect!” Dalmer laughs with great glee, “I’ll crush your friend since I couldn’t crush you. After you watch him die, then I’ll finish you off.”

Char struggles but can not get free of the grip. He feels the force around him constrict tighter and tighter. The pain is intense as the pressure builds.

Suddenly, something crashes to the ground very close to Dalmer. He is startled by the impact and is forced to throw himself out of the way. Char is released and falls to the ground. Dalmer gets back to his feet. “I can’t concentra …”

Arien moves with a determination borne by sheer will. He stands up, ignoring the pain and difficulty of moving and attacks with a single thrust. The blade drives past the Commander’s deflective block and strikes through the left eye. “Lin’naur” he commands, and the flames ignite to burn flesh, eye and brain. Dalmer struggles briefly and then his last eye rolls in his head and he dies a flaming death.

Kilgim arrives as fast as his dwarven legs can move him. He looks to Arien and to Char, both badly injured. Char waves a hand to Arien and Kilgim immediately goes to the knight The three of them look down upon the body of Jal, dead from chest wound and impact damage.

OOC: There is one wounded Ankheg on the ground and a Mantis leader. In the sky are two mantis warriors on Dragonflies. Alloryn (?) is free and in the dark.

Arien: 1 hp left before healing
Char: Seriously wounded
Maximus: Fine
Dapple: Fine
Kilgim: Fine
Adrian: Mated but fine
Jal – Very very dead. Sorry Eol but he just didn’t have enough HP or AC to withstand the attack. I rarely kill a PC, but this I think as a good death.

A euro is 1.56 US right now. So yeah...that would be $8.86 US per gallon.

On an interesting note - we currently are paying about $2.82 to $4.00 per litre for beer (based on 24 pack prices). However, no one is making news about beer prices or talking alternate beer methods.

So how much are you paying at the pumps?

A US gallon is 3.785 litres

Here in Toronto we are at $1.28 per litre or $4.84 per gallon.

I am curious as to how bad it is getting around the world.

What is the world coming to when you can't steal copyrighted material whenever you want? Good question.

That's right - stealing. You can candy coat it as much as you want but it is still stealing when you take songs or movies and don't pay for it.

It is what? 99 cents to download a song from iTunes? Get the legitimate copies and no one will take your stuff away.

They didn't take your ballistic mesh. You are bootless and have the two shot derringer in the sheath on your back.

Yes you may post that your hands are free. The person dealing with you has allowed himself to be distracted. As I have said before, I like to make my bad guys realistic.

Your weapons and boots are all tossed or slid over by the doorway - Not within reach at this time. His weapons are at his side and a bit closer if you want to try to snatch his pistols (modified colts, six shooters). That would be heroic btw (Agility and Covert)

I haven't posted a map yet have I? Sigh ....time. I need time.

You have to admit, the brake failure, the other hover car and the scene through the Band was funny. I thought it was a TV series type of moment like when they found out Jayne was the Hero of Canton.

The Hover mule

Fenris could try to fix the brakes if someone takes the wheel (I recommend Asher). It will be an incredible complex action.

You could try to slam the mule into reverse, which is Heroic but will most likely ruin the engines.

You can look for something soft to bounce off (the stage, a saloon, the bank)

You can power down the engines and risk a end over end flip.

I'm open to other suggestions and will comment on the feasiblity of any.

Just for the record, it was Fenris's driving that save the mule from rolling in the crowd, so don't blame him. Driving unknowingly into a crowd of people is Formidable.

Unfortunately the Band didn't dodge well and whenever you use equipment in this game, there is a chance for failure. I botched that roll so I combined the two into the story.
