Topic: Continuing Where We Last Left Off Again
Subject: Now things get tough

Having explored far enough to see to the end of the hallway, Maximus returns his attention to the broken door and the hallway beyond. The hallway is filled with a darkness that defies his infravision but with the light of Hoth, he can see well enough. There is not much down the corridor; in fact it ends in a door after about 20 feet. The door is odd, made of a silver corrugated metal and the door handle is at the bottom - like you would pull it up instead of opening from the side. The open 10x10 pit does present a problem as it is right in front of the doorway; however the wood from the broken door could be used to form a slanted bridge that you could step across. Odyson casts a spell on Maximus that makes him feel a bit more confident going forward.

Finarsil and Karin are standing beside Maximus as he looks down the corridor. Odyson moves into the hallway to cast a spell on Maximus that makes him feel a bit more confident going forward. The dwarf decided to activate his true seeing and look around.

The power behind what Kadrin sees almost knocks him to his feet. The pure evil and magic is deep inside every brick and stone of this place, so much so that the true vision of it is overwhelming. But not to the dwarf who manages to keep upright and try to focus on the area and not the power within. The green demon face at the end of the corridor is merely that, a carved face and any Annihilation magic is long gone. Nor is there mist or magic in the archway beside the demon's face. But the frozen dead are ....

Suddenly there is a burst of energy from the cavern area behind the party. Green energy travels across the ground towards you and down the hall, no way to avoid it. As the energy touches the ratmen, they begin to move and stare to stand. The frozen dead suddenly burst from their ice sheaths and move as well, like warriors wearing ice armour. Dark Reaver now glows blue as you are caught between the undead in the cavern and the skeletons within the corridors.

OOC:
Maximus, Kadrin, Finarsil and Odyson are in the corridor near the broken doorway so will face the ice skeletons first. The rest of you are standing by the corridor entrance and have the rat-zombies behind you.

Build: Slender
General Description: Jarenion stands 5' 5" tall and weighs a rather sleight 125 lbs. Despite his small stature, however, he cuts an imposing if not intimidating figure owed to his confidence and determination. He wears his long black hair in a loose and, in truth, somewhat unkempt fashion, his eyes (a violet shade common to his blood line), much like the points of his leaf-shaped ears, are seldom seen as they are often hidden by the spill of his hair and the wide brim of the dark leather hat that he rarely removes. He is most often seen wearing a knee-length, charcoal grey coat, blousy black trousers, and soft charcoal grey boots in lieu of the standard robes of a mage. His only visible weapons are a rune-graven adamantine staff that is seldom far from hand and a dagger that hangs amidst a cluster of pouches from the belt around his waist what items may be in those pouches or, for that matter, in the dark leather satchel slung from his shoulder are beyond imagining as he guards their contents jealously.

Jarenion might easily be mistaken as being arrogant by those who havent taken the time (or had the patience) to get to know him beyond appearances and first impressions. He is rather aloof and supremely confident in his abilities, though, tending to be a bit of an intimidator when it comes to wielding the arcane energies hes spent his life mastering and, often, prefers to take his spells into combat alongside sword-and-armor fighters rather than simply providing them support from a distance as he has seen many other mages do. Despite his standoffish nature and lack of a ready smile for most of civilization, those who have travelled with and/or befriended the mage know that a warm smile and pleasant conversation can be evoked from Jarenion on occasion if you can pull his attentions from his spellcraft for that long.

The staff has all the powers of a Rod of Smiting (+3 magical weapon that inflicts 1d8+3 points of damage. Against golems, the staff causes 2d8+6 points of damage, and any score of 20 or better completely destroys the golem. Any hit upon a golem drains one charge. The rod causes normal damage (1d8+3) versus creatures of the Outer Planes. Any score of 20 or better draws off one charge and causes triple damage: (1d8+3) x3).
    Additional Powers:
Staff holds up to 10 levels of spells in holding (10 1st, 5 2nd etc ). These spells can be cast by the user at any point but require a casting time of 1 seg only. Caster can refill spells by casting the spell into the staff.

Casting time is always # of charges as Segments

The weasel is subject to being thrown off by false trails, breaks, water, and masking or blocking substances or scents. An onyx weasel can be used for up to six continuous hours, once per week. It obeys only its owner. This is J's Familiar as well.

Brief History: Jarenion Mithesonel, while considered by most as a more academician sort, had a long and successful career as an adventurer before his retirement, even having the opportunity to travel and adventure with some of Oerths most reputed heroes on several occasions. After many, many years of trials and travels beyond Celenes borders, though, the mage has recently returned to his homeland and, at long last, in the privacy of his own tower, spent the last few years buried in his continuing study of magic and, on occasion, serving in something of an advisory capacity to the royals/nobles of Grey Elf society.

Cloak of Bravery to fend against nudity - That's funny. If you ever read or played ToH the original, it is full of "nude" teleport traps. Funny the first time but after awhile the players get tired of running around looking for their equipment.

First off, it is the Cortex, not the internet or wifi. It is much like the internet but more controlled. The alliance broadcasts the cortex using satellites and while you are on the ship you can access the cortex. However the liner has closed their systems from the cortex so no one can hack in and take over the ship systems.

You would think there would be cortex ports everywhere on a ship but there are not. Due to the high level of security on the ships now, they are no longer available. A good analogy is if you were using a cell phone, you can use your data plan only. You will have to look harder to find a place to put your bug.

See, a group of mercenaries trying to steal an earth that was artifact hacked through the cortex and set off a series of accidents that crippled the ship, killed an bunch of people and eventual destroyer the liner completely. This is why security was increased.

Day 1, Morningstar's Ranchhouse, 6:45 PM PT

Actually," Wyatt drawled not unkindly. "Stickin' 'round a bit might provide me an' mine with some time t' line up our next set o' fares. An' while I appreciate yer offer of hospitality, it ain't necessary. Thank you kindly all the same. You can drop a wave our way when it's safe t' take Havelock home. 'Til then, I don't plan on muckin' about much so you can find us back at our ship if'n ya need us."

"I understand completely." Virgil replies and offers his hand to shake goodbye. "I'll see to it that you are informed of the situation as my people see to this."

"Looking to haul more cargo?" the Shepherd says lightly, "Maybe you can set these gentlemen up with something Virgil. You have some cargo to haul don't you?"

Virgil looks at the preacher with a confused look, "Umm. You know I have arrangement already." He looks back at Wyatt with an apologetic smile, "But I will certainly let you know if I hear anything."

"Maybe something will come up. You never know." Carson says with a thin smile.

"Shepherd Carson, Mr. Morningstar, I know sometimes a town grows faster than the services needed to support all the folks flooding in. I am the ship's doctor, with no one needing my care,is there a doctor's office where I may lend a hand?" Willow asked politely.

"Well that is indeed very kind of you, Willow was it?" Carson turns his attention to Willow, "There are a few doctors here in Serenity Views and the hotels have one on staff. But if you were to look up Doc Parker or Doctor Jin - I am sure either one would love you assistance."

You make your polite goodbyes and pick up your weapons on the way out.

That noodle house might be a good place to checkout." Comments Asher sheepishly.

Day 1, Serenity View's Spaceport, 6:45 PM PT

"So was wondering. Your Captain mentioned someone named Billie. She another of your crew?" Wolf asked Chewie.

"Yeah. Billie is one of ours." Chewie said with an eyeroll, "She kinda handles our security, if you know what I mean and I am sure you do." He offers the moonshine to Wolf once more. "Billie, is a tough nut to crack. She ain't what you would call pretty, or polite, or good mannered either. She had a fella that she loved like no one else and they would been happy together but he was killed in a game of cards by a guy with a bad streak of luck. Claimed cheating but he wasn't the type. The fella was hanged for it but it just ate up everything that was once social in Billie and she fills the gap up with drink whenever she can."

(assume a comment)

"But let me tell you, drunk or sober, she is a fast draw and really really deadly in a fight. Guns or fists, she is usually the one that comes out on top."

(assuming something about sounding dangerous)

"See the Captain has this thing for people who no one else wants. He sees a value in us and because he does it makes you .... I don't know ... make you wanna show him he is right. At least he does to me. Billie, well she'd be dead now a number of times over if it weren't for the captain. But he won't make her change until she wants to change. Besides, this ship practically runs itself and we manage."

(assuming some more comments or questions)

"Well I should get back to the ship and do some work, losing the light soon anyway. Hope to see you tonight at Whistlers though. See you later."

Day 1, Serenity View's Spaceport Tower, 6:45 PM PT

Jade walked towards the town from the tower, which was a bit of a hike and brought her in from the side instead of the top like the others had. She could see as see approach the tall tall walls surrounding the junkyard on the edge of town, but there was another area. This one was fenced off with wooden plank walls and posts - very temporary in nature. As she approached, she caught a whiff of rotting food, urine, sweat and wood fire. There were people moving around in the fenced off area and as she got closer she could see the fence wasn't made to keep people in - many loose planks and opening. It was there mostly to shield the spaceport from the view.

Jade moves through the planks and into the shantytown called "Phoenix Heights." Crafted with bits of corrugated metal, parts of rusty ships, and mud, the makeshift hovels barely hold their shape. The ground is pockmarked with pools of muddy water; the air is filled with swarms of flies, the smell of rotting soybeans, and the sound of children coughing. The desolate folk who live in this half-mile area are mostly refugees from the War and destitute townsfolk who fell on hard times. They are the forgotten remnants of the Unification War who suffer the most. Jade suddenly realizes that most who travel to Serenity View probably don't even know Phoenix Heights exists.

There are two men talking to each other. One a black man, dressed with the white collar of a preacher and the other man is older, carries a medical bag and surprisingly a short barrel shotgun in a shoulder-back holster. They see you, look at each other and then look back at you. "Are you looking for someone young lady?" the preacher asks pleasantly.

Day 1, Walking in Serenity Views, 6:50 PM PT

As Wyatt, Asher and Willow make their way from Morningstar's house, it becomes apparent to each of them that you are being watched. Not covertly, or at least not trying very hard to be covert but there are Alliance men always somewhere within view - down the street, across the way, just a single officer watching in their direction. Any attempt to approach or draw them out fails; they merely move away or vanish into a building.

If you read Grace's post, she gives Jon a bug and clear instructions as to where to stick it.

However there is no where in the tailor's shop for such a port. You need a security centre or a place where a cortex feed would have to be provided. Due to the high level of security now on the cruise ships, they are not easily accessible.

Of course there is the Grand Ballroom beautifully decorated with living palm trees and exotic flowers and the tables and chairs surround a dance floor in the center. Connected to the Grand Ball is Lookout Lounge
separated by the bar area, the lounge at the prow beneath the bridge with large panoramic windows provide a breathtaking view of the heavens. As well there is the Verbena Restaurant which is the largest restaurant aboard ship featuring elegant fine dining. Of course there is the Lucky Lady Casino: The casino is huge, located in the center of the ship, for this is one of the main attractions. To reach the Verbena restaurant, passengers are required to walk through the casino."

"Just give us a few minutes Mr. Kane to enter in the data and we will give you a pass for your arm. Won't take long at all." The other guard said, rolling his eyes at the sales pitch of his companion.

"Cap'n? Wouldn't it make sense to move at least some of this luggage to Lilliana's room first? If she just staying here for a little while longer I may as well get some of this moved, she won't need it here, right?" Angela asked

Angela, as payload specialist you'll need to get some of those bags back to Miss Lillianna's room. Then let Stephanie help get you ready to join us on board. I have a feeling I am going to need your talents helping me handling things other than bags."

Angela began moving the luggage as she was directed but part of her mind was elsewhere and it had been since the Baron gave her the card. Something he said triggered something in her mind - a memory? Was this a memory? Does memory feel like this.

Numbers moved like liquid in her mind, filling the gaps that she was use to having with calculations, probability and .....

And ...

It was there but not. Something dancing on the edge of her conscious but it vanished every time she tried to remember or recover it. Like it didn't want o be caught.

Angela suddenly realized that she was finished moving the luggage but she was so wrapped up in her thoughts that she didn't remember doing so. Stephanie had her in hand and was leading her to the Doctor's room talking about clothing and her figure. Angela didn't really care about how her figure matched certain types of clothing and what was wrong with what she was wearing? She just got her name badge anyway!

Stephanie started pulling out outfits from her closet asking Angela if she liked anything. One dress she saw on a hanger seemed to scream out to her, as if it was made for her. She walked passed Stephanie and grabbed it. "This one." She said plainly.

Stephanie looked surprised at the black sequined dress that Angela picked. "Ummm. That is a real slinky dress. Are you sure?"

(I will let Vanadia fill this out)

Jon and JC were waiting in the cargo bay when the ladies came out. Catie and Stephanie were stunning in their outfits but Angela was completely unlike anything the two of them expected. She had a black sequined dressed that was almost skin tight to her form. The Payroll expert looked like she belonged here with the high rollers on the liners.

"She picked it." Stephanie said with her hands up. "It looks fantastic on her, so much so that I don't think I can wear it again. You can keep it Angela, not that I think we will have much chance to dress like this again."

The security guards gave JC a pass card, similar to the one that Seth got for his weapons. "Wear this at all times while you are on Rim's Dream so that the sensors will know to let you through. If you lose it, then you will set off any security sensor on the ship, and there are a lot of them."

The five of you exit the cargo bay and the security access point to move into the interior of the cruise liner. The ship is very luxurious, even from Stephanie's point of view. The cards that the Baron gave you allows you access to anywhere on the ship other than restricted areas (VIP 1st Class and Crew Only).

You move through the concourse level where the shops are set up and pass a number of places for men's clothing. Despite Jon and JC pointing out places, Stephanie dismisses them out of hand until you come to a shop labelled Olivier's - Bespoke Tailor. Inside you find a very thin black gentleman with blue and green coloured hair done up in spikes. He looks at you and smiles a professional smile, "How can I help you?"

"My friend here needs a new suit, for a wedding." Stephanie says passing him the card from the baron.

"I'm sure he does darling but I ..." He flips the card over and his eye bulge out, "OH MY GOD!!!! OH MY GOD!!! The Baron! The Baron! You are going to the wedding!! OH MY GOD!!!!!" he starts to jump up and down waving his hands in front of his face, "Oh I feel faint!" He runs to the back of the shop and opens the doorway to call, "CARL! Drop the Go Sa you are doing and grab the sherry! We got real work to do."

He moves smoothly towards JC and starts looking him over, "Big man aren't you? Well trust Olivier honey ‘cause you are in good hands." He moves JC's arm up to measure and sees the artificial arm. "Oh dear honey, what did they do you? This is ..OH MY GOD ....tragic. Completely ruins your symmetry, I...I...I just can't imagine how you deal with it sugar. You are indeed a strong man. AH! I know! Lamme! Gold, no! Platinum Lamme! Oh yeah! When I am done with you Sweetheart, you're gonna be a star!"

Olivier starts to measure JC in all sorts of places. Another small oriental man with white hair comes in with a decanter of sherry and multiple glasses.

"This could be awhile." Stephanie says to the rest of the group, "We may want to look around, come back in an hour or two. I am sure that JC is in good hands."

"Okay Honeybuns! Into that change room and take it all off now! Time to get Fab-u-lous!"

Back at Destiny

Grace waited and waited but she had not heard back from the Captain about the bug he was supposed to plant. The mechanic was worried because if he was caught or could not reach a port, then she was not going to be able to do anything. The thought of that drove her a bit twitchy and sahe decided to do something about it.

In her closet, Grace keep various outfits that were generic enough to pass as uniforms of repair people - the kind that no one looked at or even noticed on a ship. She quickly slipped into a suitable one for the liner, put on a cap that she pulled down over her face and grabbed a card left by Stephanie for her and Tess in case either of them wanted to go on the liner.

When she entered the cargo bay however, she almost ran into a man coming in at the same time. He was well dressed, older man and Grace recognized him instantly.

"Hello!" He said calmly, "I am Templeton Steele. I would like to speak to Lilianna Fairchild - my fiancé. Would you know where I could find her?"

Maximus moves cautiously down the corridor, checking along the way for more pit traps or any sort of trap whatsoever. It is not work that can be done in haste especially considering where they are right now. Finarsil stays behind the rogue but moves forward to support him in his recon of the hallway. Sparrow keeps an arrow notched and watches.

Nothing jumps out or activates as Max goes down the corridor and he looks down the first open pit trap to see a 20 foot drop and wooden spikes lining the bottom. The spikes are covered with moss now and there are slimes or jellies within - maybe some bugs that have take refuge in the dark hole.

Reaching the 40 foot mark, Maximus sees the former doorway is hanging on one hinge and leaning inwards down the corridor, making it hard to see what lies past it. It is very dark down that way, unnaturally so. Maximus also is close enough to get a good look at the skeleton encased in ice. It has more ice around the floor and feet than near its head - giving the feeling that the ice formed around the person and swallowed him or her up. But then again, there was no clothing or equipment on the skeleton either. Like they were wandering around naked when the ice took them. - oh wait a minute... What did Finarsil say about teleports without clothing?

Using the light of Hoth, Maximus can see more frozen skeletons (5 in total) further down the corridor. Beyond them, he can make out the grinning demon face at the very end of the hallway and a corridor on the left (east) of it. However the archway does not have any mist within that he can see.

OOC: Maximus is about halfway down the corridor (near the open pit in the middle) with Finarsil 10 feet behind him.

Subject: misc items

Just wanted to cover some of the miscellaneous magic from the previous campaign. If you disagree with the split, tell me so.

Double Crossbow+2, Mageslayer. A single use item as it is not made to be reloaded. The quarrels are loaded with a poison that neutralizes a mage's ability to draw mana. The magic is very dark and is probably quite evil.

Sold to Mage's Guild

Two potions of healing
Crow took one and Dudley took the other

A crystal necklace that if broken will teleport you to the lair of the evil archlich that rules Sendaria.

Also sold to Mage's Guild

A silver Pitcher that if you say "Mead" fills with a high quality Mead. Works three times a day.

Dudley took this

A small Brazier that is enchanted to burn without fuel (Command: fire/extinguish) and will follow you like a dog if you say "here boy" (cannot be over 20 feet away, walks with iron legs and not fast)

Alondas took this.

Subject: Moving out

You leave the city with the Caravan and your employers. Your team consist of Crow, a Sylvari Ranger, Alondas, a mage of the Sylvari as well, Dudley the Cidal cleric as well as Bou the rogue. A large Chindrian warrior named Kiki rounds out the muscle of the team along with the Half -Syl fighter Jarik who is skilled with short swords.

Your employers are all brothers and as such, tend to argue alot. Mario seems to be the leader but Luigi is the one with the money and Wario and Waluigi are mostly just angry. Your first day out you reach the town outside of the pass, Stallanford. At first it appears that Luiogi does not wish to stay in town but move on and save the money but Mario has a lady in town that he wishes to call upon by the name of Peaches (although he calls her his Princess).

So you stay the night at the Stallanford Inn and enjoy a hot meal and a warm bed as well as the comforts of a trade town. Pardinal is known for its commoners' hospitality and sense of revelry so you do manage to have a good evening, however their idea of good ale leaves a lot to be desired (tastes of sweet vine fruits, roasted hazelnuts, sea-salt, and bitter hops ????)

The next day you enter the Railir Peaks Pass. The journey is slower than before as you move with caution but also because your employers seem to have no idea what dangers there are in the peaks. They quarrel constantly, raising their voices and shouting at each other. After a half day of this, Kiki and Crow have some harsh words with their employers about drawing attention. It works for awhile but the arguing crops up again. By the time you reach the end of the day and set up camp, you are getting quite annoyed with the brothers, and then you find out that the stores of food the Luigi bought for the trip consist of oats and dried berries - which he thought was very economical as they feed the horse and the people. Kiki, Jarik and Crow manage to do some hunting before the daylight fades and put some rabbits and wild pheasants to the meal however Mario insists that Luigi eats his berry oatmeal alone. This leads to more fighting and arguing until suddenly the brothers fall asleep - in mid argument. Alondas claims innocence, after it had been a long day and you are all happy for some peace and quiet.

The next day, Crow is scouting ahead of the caravan despite the brothers' protest that all guards should stick with the caravan. As he moves into a heavily wooded area, his sharp Sylvari ears pick up the sounds of voices. At first he thinks it is the brothers arguing again but then realize it is a language he knows but the guttural tongue is recognizable as Goblinkin. He moves quietly through the foliage to see a group of large Gobbers pilliaging the remains of few wagons. No one other the Gobbers are available and Crow counts at least a dozen of them. Unfortunately, they are on the pass and there is no way around.

Crow watches them for awhile to make sure there is no other party of creatures with them and then returns to the caravan to gather his companions to do some Gobber hunting.

The People moving towards you are shuffling and shambling along, not quick at all.

The Egyptians are unarmed but the germans have their sidearms in holsters on their belts, no rifles or machine guns.

I have five people posting since my last post, so I will assume the Rogue is going ahead to check out the infamous winner of the "most Trapped Hallway in D&D history" while the rest of the team watch.

Orders given, the team moved out as quickly as they could across the sandy desert. The fading sun meant the temperature got cooler but the pace and struggle to keeping it going helped.

The full moon illuminated the landscape which allowed the team to see anything that might be coming your way, but unfortunately meant that anyone watching would be able to see you as well. You continued the pace for about an hour without seeing any signs of life beyond the tire tracks. But despite the glow of the moon, it was the sound that alerted Captain Edintore that something was heading your way. A moaning noise, almost guttural came to his sharp ears and he quickly signalled for the team to stoop and get down for cover (assumed).

The source of the sound was moving - stumbling and shabbling, towards them aimlessly. At first it looked like four figures in the moonlight, But through the captain's binoculars and McGuiness' scope, they were a group of men that you did not expect to see together. Two were Egyptian, dressed in the style and wrappings of desert dwellers. The other two were german soldiers. All four moved in an awkward fashion but were definitely moving in you direction. It was hard to tell at this range (150-200 feet away) but to the sniper's sharp eyes and amplified lens, the natives were sporting multiple bullets wounds to the chest and the germans had bite wounds on the neck.
