OOC: Excuse my heavy handed approach here to finish off the tower and move you down the corridor. We seem to be lagging in posts lately.

The party sweeps the entire room and finds nothing unusual. The room to the northeast is a storage areas with many blankets, mats pillow and other sundries. A quick peek up the circular ladder reveals only a small watch tower above, un-manned.

Leaving this room, the party finds that the spider bodies have disappeared. They have vanished. leaving only traces of blood, slime and venom as evidence that they were here and not illusions.

Moving down the two flights of stairs through the eastern corridors, the party comes to a hallway branching off south. after Maximus initially looks around the corner to see it is unoccupied. The doors down the hall are all closed. He continues on to check out the door to the north, which is closed but would lead to the other tower and then further down to see the corridor turns south to more stairs down.

The gladiator returns to the party waiting by the first south corridor. Before he can ask which way to go, the sound of a door opening comes from the south. You all look to see something move from the one doorway on the west and across to the door to the east, closing the door quickly behind as it did.

Startled, you all look at each other - did you just see what you thought you saw?

July 14th 1943, 2:45-4:00 am, Day Two of Mission

OOC: Because I have been delayed and I am sure you all want to get to the action, I have jumped you forward without much detail. You may backpost if you want any conversation and prep before this post starts

The engine of the major's car seemed to like the speed, or Brutal had a real lead foot, either way, you once on the main road, the car moved quickly down the road. It was a tight fit in the car but from a distance you all looked the part, and up close, well you could deal with that.

The roads became winding and steep fast, with many turns and valleys and up the edge of mountains. At one point the headlights showed a section of road barrier torn and twisted, where someone had misjudged a turn and when over the cliff edge.

After what seems like a long climb, you enter into a valley. Black pools of water stand like dark mirrors about the muddy roadway. Thick cold mist spreads a pallor over the road. Giant tree trunks stand on both sides of the road, their branches clawing into the fog. Ahead of you a high stone buttresses loom on either side of the road and a ancient iron gate hangs on rusted bent hinges. A faded signpost is revealed in the light "Barovia".

You drive on in the darkness and fog, feeling the chill in the air as the dampness reaches right through your clothing to your bones. Tall shapes loom out of the dense fog and the muddy ground gives way to slick wet cobblestones. tall shape appear around you that become recognizable as buildings and dwellings of a town, long deserted and ravaged by time. No one lives here anymore and it looks like it has been deserted for a long time. You pass through the main square of this ghost town, a signpost over a door reveals itself in the headlights as a tavern once called "Blood on The Vine".

You leave the village and move up again, cross over a bridge and continue on the road that cuts through an dense old forest. The thick damp undergrowth presses in on the roadway and the trees are so close the trunks almost touch. The forest have a silence to them of a forgotten grave.

Up you go again, winding around and over until you turn the corner and in the distance there is a large bridge across a great chasm. The sound of the Waterfall churning can be heard as you slow down as the bridge is lit and there is a small building on this side with a wooden bar gate across the road. There are four german soldiers there, coming out as you approach. One of them steps out, casual but wary and waves for you to stop. The other three take positions, one on either side of the road and the other back towards the bridge itself.

There is no way around this checkpoint. This was the bridge that one "team" was going to destroy so reinforcements couldn't reach the castle.

The one closer to you shouts out, "Halt! Ziehen Sie an der Seite und präsentieren sie ihr Papieren sofort!" (Halt! Pull to the side and present your papers immediately!)

Okay. I would very much like to post tonight to move you to the first .... encounter.

However, there has been a lot of back and forth on the plan so can someone please clarify for me what you are doing? Is Reid losing guns or keeping? Is anyone hiding in the truck? Will you leave McGuiness in the tree?

Thanks.

Dear Webmaster Olan,

In case you had not noticed, it is late into January. As much as I love the extra exposure to Mythbreakers, I need to point out that it is time to change the art on the home page.

According to the Mayan Calendar, the Book of Revelations, Nostradamas and Dr. Phil - if we leave the christmas art up past the end of January then doom will fall upon the earth. Reality Tv will stop being real, it will start snowing in the south and Grugg will get free. You may have noticed the signs.

I beg you for all of humanity sake, change the home page artwork.

Humbly,
Your servant,
With respect and mirth,
Naggingly your,

Alacrity

PS: Need to find out why I can't get into the site as a admin anymore so I can just make the changes myself.

Subject: not really

2e has weird stuff with size including that certain weapons do more damge againt large creatures while others do less...

Anyway, not looking editions, just thoughts or systems that deals with size difference.

If we break down the sizes into four, s, m, l and g, then we could work a simple 4x4 chart from X2 to X0.25 damage to +4/-4 to hit. So the halfling would be +4 to hit but x.25 on damage. The giant would be -4 to hit and X2 damage.

Still thinking.

Hello

As many of you know, I am a 2nd edition AD&D "dyed in the wool, you'll get my DMG when you pry it out of my cold dead hands" gamer. But I play around with rules a lot so I wanted to find out what other systems/people are doing when it comes to different size opponents? Halfling vs Giant - who has the advantage?

Size of monsters vs players - what should it effect? ability to hit? damage? Should there be a chart with multiplers based on size types?

Let me know how you handle size? Thoughts, opinions and comments welcome.

The reactions to the device and her plans were fine and in character - I wanted to make sure that you knew there was two ways of looking at it. In "Our Miss Reynolds" Wash and Kaylee admired Brigette's handiwork but the Capt is not impressed.

First off - Brigette's device was not mean to kill the crew. Yes it had that potential but really all signs show it was a delaying tactic. If she wanted you dead, there would have been no power outage and the scrappage gel would not have been on top of the device all obvious like. Everything is a delaying tactic.

Ash and Pearson - Hmmmm. I hadn't thought of writing that up because a lot of what happens on planet is heavy handed by the DM. But I'd like to get you posting asap. Let me think on that.

OOC: There are places for conversation I will let you fill in.

Enroute to Lullabelle Mine, Day Eight 9:30 am - 2:30 pm Ship Time

Walking on the side of a boat drifting in the black was always a precarious situation. The boots were magnetic to hold to the hull but a slip or mis-step could be a long leap into nothingness for the rest of a short life. Knowing this, Andrew and Wolf suit up and head out with tools in hand. Neither had a case for a gun but Sam "borrow" two side arm vac-case from Asher so they could use sidearms. Always best to be cautious but so far no sign of visitors.

Wyatt and Sam were armed for a tussle and Ma had changed into a black tactical armour with full helmet - a gift from an old film. It made her look menacing if weren't for the pink shotgun she carried. Wyatt and Sam moved to the cockpit so they could talk to mechanics as they worked.

Willow confined herself to her room and waited as patiently as she could. She quietly said a prayer for the two men who were the only hope of saving their lives.

Once outside, the two men turned on their comm so that the they could keep in touch. Wolf and Andrew moved to the lower side of the ship - the panels that would be accessible while they were on the ground. There was no sign of physical damage to the ship as they walked slowly across Rocinante They separated but stayed within sight of each other. Both tied off to the ship whever they stopped to check a panel.

It took two hours to find it. The obvious panels proved clean but then Wolf opened up the cover on the secondary coupling, port side and saw something that didn't belong. it was a hand-made device, looked a bit like a funnel with the low end coupled to the main power. It was then wired in again, and again and at least four more times - a mess of interwoven and tied together wiring. On the top of the device was a bulging package with two electrodes attached. At first Wolf thought it was explosive but they wouldn't work in the black. Andrew gave the package a slight squeeze and it squished to his touch.

"Scrapper's gel." he said. The two looked at each other across the panel. If they pulled the plug on this thing, it would charge the gel and it would burn its way through the hull and power system. But by putting on top, the perpetrator was just making them waste time - they had to go slowly and trace the power route.

Wolf sets down the tools so that he and Bowman can get to work. Whoever did this was good - too good as it is a masterful hump job. After about an hour, Andrew has a eureka moment and is able to disconnect three wires at once as it was a false lead. That leaps to Wolf find the rest of the connections that are false and tracking down the really source of power. The device is sucking power off the ship, very slowly to charge internal battery. Once the batter charged enough, it sent a surge into the main power coupling and fried the fail-safe. After another hour, the device is removed and the system is rewired. It goes smoothly except for one thing - when removed it vibrates and then goes dead. On Sam's screen, the communication monitor beeps - a transmission was sent. Sam immediate tries to jam it but it is too late, and too short. All he can determine is it when to Regina.

Wolf and Andrew double check all the other lower panels quickly before they move inside. Whoever could set this up might have a back up. But no other device or sabotage is found.

Once back inside, Wolf gets to work on the Aft alternator and Andrew takes a look at the device. He removes the scrapper gel pack first, for safety sake, and finds a clue to the identity of the person who sabotage the ship. On the back side of the gel pack is a red lipstick kiss. The rest of the device is the internal battery, the power drain, a miniature transmitter and duct tape. The battery was set for eight days of drain.

Who knew you'd be in the black at least eight days and wears red lipstick?

As Andrew takes his findings to the Captain and Sam, the communication panel lights up again. Incoming live wave this time - from Frisco, Regina for Willow - marked Urgent.

Arien looks over the carnage and checks on the members of the party. His wounds can wait as far as he is concern as long as everyone else can be seen. Kilgim has Adrian up and moving and the others seem to be no worse for wear except minor injuries. “Let us move north,” The knight says, “Rather not have any surprises come from behind as we move further.”

The door to the northern chamber is open and it is standard size for men, so the spider could not have come from the chamber – more evidence that it was summoned forth to deal with you by the unseen lady with the threads. Dapple moves forward to checks the door and consults with Sunset on direction. Images pour not only into Dapple’s mind, but all the party that flittering in shape and meaning. The mental images are drawn from your own mind and experiences so everyone see and feels something different but the meaning can be found. Sunset can’t feel danger or intelligence to north, but feels a presence to the east – a childlike but deeply evil mind. Whatever it is – it is scared of you, like it has never felt before.

The door is not trapped or locked, and swings open to reveal a large chamber, semi-circular in design. There are mats and pillows on the floor, and the walls are decorated with frescos of flowers and sunny landscapes. In the centre of the room is a open entrance to a circular stairwell going up to another level. There is another room to the north east, with a closed doorway on either side.

There is no sign of life in this room, no sounds from above, or the room to the side.

July 14th 1943, 2:30 am, Day Two of Mission

With McGuinness, Sarge and Brutal outside, Doc sees to the lady as best he can. The captain continues to talk to her, wondering what he is getting himself into with this lady. She is very composed considering the situation and obviously can handle herself well - better than some recruits that Luke had seen in his time. She doesn't seem surprised by much and her responses are cautious by questioning.

Outside, the three soldiers suddenly hear a loud noise. It is a harsh "whoosh" sound that is followed by the night sky being lit up with an unearthly blue glow from the south. It lasts for about 3 seconds and then stops, plunging the night into what seems like a darker blackness than before.

Inside, the noise is heard as well. Through the window, they can see the strange glow as well. Testing the fuel? The light does not flicker or waver like a flame, but whatever it is must be very bright.
