I have posted a short one. I really only need to know how you plan to get in (door or window) and who is gonna open the door. So someone step forward or I pick a volunteer from the studio audience.

Dapple approached the closed doors cautiously, examining each stair before lighting her weight upon it. Standard wooden steps, only slightly worn form the weather but none seems to be made as pressure plates or triggers to traps. She approached the doors with the same clinical inquiry but quickly ascertained that the door had no lock, although it could be bolted on the inside.

Yet, something caught her eye. A single strand of black hair lay across the handles of the double doors. It was an old trick, something early guild members were taught to see if someone had entered their room. But the hair being on the outside wouldn’t warn anyone inside – it would only tell someone on the outside.

Perplexed, Dapple moves back from the door, ignoring the look of curiosity from Char and the Bard. She goes to the left were a window is inset within the wall, about four feet up from the ground. She quick climbs up the wall and to the window, bracing herself with her feet on either side. She looks over the window, which is a double set with a latch and the outside but shutters closed from within. There, on the latch was a single black hair, laid across so delicately.

Dapple curses in a series of languages and drops down from the ledge. No point checking the other one, she knew what she’d find. It wasn’t a trap, but something about it set her …. Hairs on end. She turned back to the party and reported what she had found. They could enter freely, but someone or something would know they had entered.

Topic: WWII Horror LFP
Subject: WWII Horror

I am thinking of starting a game again. Want to see if anyone would be interested. It is a WWII miltary game with some horror and spy thriller as well. This will be more based on the "Hollywood" world war films than reality, or perhaps the Wolfenstein video games. I am not looking for historical accuracy, I am looking for good story telling and good role playing.

The rule system will be the Cortex rules, which are the rules I use for my Serenity based games (Rocinante). Depending on the players, I may go for a simplified set of rules to make it easier.

So I would need at least five soldiers: a captain, a sarge, a corporal and two privates. There is also a role for a female who will appear later in the story.

It is 1943 and OSS picks up reliable intelligence that the Nazis are developing rocket fuel at a remote location near the swiss border. An old estate - Castle Rautenberg, is being used as the research facilty. Due to the remoteness of the castle, and it close vicinity to the swiss border, the allies can not risk a bombing run. So a team of 20 commandos are hand picked to be airdropped at night, make their way to the castle and destroy it.

But it doesn't go as planned. 30 minutes from the drop point, the plane is attacked by german fighters. Grabbing what gear they can, the few surviving commandos run to jump from the plane before it goes down. As the plane explodes upon impact, only 5 (or 6) members of the team are alive, and with limited supplies. But these are allied soldiers, and the mission must be carried out or else the nazis will be raining bombs on England and the USA.

They are 20 miles off course and have to hoof it fast because the crash will bring Nazi troops in a hurry.

"I say," Will shouts loudly to the young man shuffling down the street, "Have you been in an accident? Perhaps you should sit yourself down and call for help. Walking on a bad ankle can be worse for it."

The figure doesn't reply but continues to shuffle towards The two Merry Men. "Apparently he has been struck deaf as well. Let us help the poor bugger."

As always, I will remind that once you step into the building, it becomes very very necessary to be specific as to positioning. What I mean is telling me if you are going left, right, north, south, drawing missile weapons, drawing sword, heading for centre of room, clinging the the walls, writing out your last will and testament, etc etc. It can mean life or .... well a lot of discomfort.

If you remain vague, I will make assumptions. And you ALL know what happens when I make assumptions.

Without a monster or two, it is hardly a quest - just a group of friends wandering in the dark.

But yes, things will get hairy very soon.

“I am very serious my good man. As to the where’s and the what's – I was told to the south of Nottinghamshire, on the Farthing road through the moors.” Will drained his tankard in a single gulp. “I fear that with the good news of Richard’s return that the rapture would be upon us? Wouldn't that be a kicker!”

Will stood up and paced a bit, “I was wondering if we shouldn’t gather up some of the Merry Men and go forth to check this claim. Perhaps we could pry Robin away from the arms of his Lady Fair long enough to disprove any waking deadness that has come upon the land.”

Subject: Too late for love?

Char looked to Sunset’s action with the years of experience of a ranger in the wild. Birds would do the same – if a mother was caught alone against a predator. Fly back and forth, never stay in one place long and be ready to defend their young. Clearly the little dragon felt protective of the group, especially of Dapple and Char. Her telepathy was uncontrolled at times, but there was no doubt of her feelings when she rested upon your shoulder – at least to Char’s mind. He wasn’t sure if Dapple would let Sunset in or whether Arien was mentally attuned enough to feel her power through his helm.

Caicher stepped forward and spoke to the dragonet in a soft rhythmic language. Sunset looked at him with fear at first but then as he spoke, she seemed to relax a bit, and then stared deeply at the Bard.

Mental images flooded Caicher’s mind without warning. A life time, from egg to young adult, in the hands of a wizard who tortured and experimented on Sunset, all passed into the Bard’s imagination as if he was the pseudo-dragon himself. Wings pinned to a board for days, cut open and organs removed, watching you egg brother slaughtered for the juices within his body – all seemed to happen to Caicher in that moment. But as well, the saving hand of her, this group of “notdragons” that saved her and cared for her – the love Sunset felt for them also passed into Caicher. No one would harm them! No one would hurt them. Sunset would protect all, especially her.

It happened all in a moment of eye contact but the Bard finds himself taking a step back from the enormity of the exchange. He could only look around the room and wonder who “her” was though, because the party had no females. The songs had mentioned a female sister of Arien and a Barbarian woman at one point, perhaps one of them was “she”?

Lunch is served and you are well taken care of before you head out to the temple. The people here seem relived that you are here and willing to help them out. Still, the odd illusions of the demons, the time shift and strangeness of this day weighs on everyone’s mind.

(Leaving this open for any discussion or questions. If there is equipment you wish to get before hand as well, now is the time)

The road to the temple is more of a path, actually a mountain goat path is perhaps a better term. It is steep in places, overgrown in others and goes up the side on the mountains in a long and winding road. This is the only way up to the temple and the ruin of the castle. The temple has been built into the side of the mountains, seven or so circular structures that jut out from the rock, blocking the way to Zepher’s former domain. To go around would require mad skills in climbing sheer rock and avoiding rockslides. By mid-afternoon, you reach the entrance to the temple. A spares but thriving garden lies on either side of the entrance, with herbs on one side and flowers on the other. Wooden steps go up about 20 feet to the double set of oak doors, bound in steel, that are currently closed. No one is around and the only sounds you can here are the wind, birds and occasional goat.

Char notices something immediately – no recent tracks around at all. The gardens are not weeded, and are becoming overgrown in places.

OOC: Maps are coming! I wanted to get the post done first.

Newhouse, Beylix, Outside Jailhouse, 12:20 am, Day Three

"Wolf," Wyatt drawled quietly. "Head that fool off at the pass. He ain't draggin' us to the gallows with him, an' he's got 'imself a might bit o' explaining to do t' me before the Law get's 'im."

Wolf throws the mule into high thrust, twisting the wheel as he holds the inertial dampers on the front for a brief pause. The dials on his dash all play over to the red but Wolf holds it long enough to align himself and then releases the hold. The mule leaps like a shot, the townfolks all fall over themselves in the back cursing and swearing.

“Stop in the name of the law!” shouts Luke Pearson as he clears his pistol from the holster. Chad keeps on running.

BLAM, BLAM

Luke opens up on Chad, firing two shots into the man’s back. Both bullets hit their target with deadly accuracy and Chad goes down like a sack of potatoes. Luke then twirls the gun in his hand, all fancy like and re-holsters it. All around him, people stare in disbelief of what they just saw, but then they start to clap and smile cheerfully.

“Thank you Luke!”

“Nice shooting Mr. Pearson!”

“Good aim there Deputy Pearson.”

The praise and cheering goes on as the two men who had been chasing Chad caught up. But the smiles don’t hide the fear in these people’s eyes. The cheering can’t hide the terror you see in them.

Newhouse, Beylix, Emmett’s Bar, 12:20, Day Three

“Oh my! Thank all the stars! Sheriff? You can’t imagine how terrified I’ve been!” Willow still remained where she was, hands held up in the classic pose of surrender, but she deftly tugged a lace handkerchief from her sleeve and dabbed delicately at her eyes.

The sheriff looks over the three of you with a distinct look of contempt as he walks over to the pistol on the floor. He bends at the knees and picks it up, looking it over and checking the slide and clip. “A Newtech PPK replica with a LS rail modification! I say, someone has a lot of money to waste.” He looks over at the lady with the shotgun, “Darla, put down the peashooter and tell me what happened here? You seem to be attracting the wrong type. Might as well move my office here.”

Darla puts down the shotgun. “A girl has to protect herself Sheriff.”

“Perhaps something a bit more ladylike Darla? Something you can aim?”
“They were all being nice and good over there and then the young fellow drew the gun and started demanding a piece. Got really angry and was spouting off about killing them for it.”

“That’s not true!” Jimmy cries out, “Really Sir I protest….”

There sheriff crosses the space of the bar in a flash and cuffs Jimmy across the face with his pistol. Caught off guard, he falls back but the sheriff grabs him by the front of the shirt and drives James’ face into the table with a hard thud, “I don’t care!” sheriff spits between blenched teeth, “I am having a very bad day and you just volunteered to pay for it.” He rapidly frisks Jimmy as he holds him down on the table and pulls out the young man’s wallet. And starts going through it. “My my! Your friend is well heeled.” He pulls out a few 50 credit notes, “Here Darla! For your trouble.”

Darla comes over and takes the money, “Why thank you sheriff! You are so generous!”

“Which reminds me, you are behind on your payments.” The sheriff says and snatches the cash back from Darla while folding all the cash and putting it in his pocket.

“But Sheriff!” Darla whines.

“Oh relax Darla. Now you are paid up and once I deal with Mister Fancypants, I’ll come back and you and I will work on the principal.” The sheriff discards the wallet over his shoulder. He then levels the gun directly at Willow, “So what’s your story, little lady, because if this is your boyfriend, it’s gonna take a lot of putting out to save him”

Before Willow can answer, a man charges into the room from the back entrance, a silver star on his chest and shotgun in his hand. “What’s going down Sheriff?”

“Nothing while you are here!” The sheriff screams, “I thought I told you to get that crew to their ship and out of here?”

“Well, yeah, but I heard shots …”

“Never mind! Just take this one to jail and process him for me. Take his suit and shoes and put him in one of those orange prisoner suits. And don’t get blood on the suit either! Takes a lot to get blood out of a suit.”

BLAM! BLAM!

“Oh Gorram it!” The Sheriff stamps his feet and yells, “You left Pearson alone didn’t you!”

“Well …”

The sheriff forgets about Willow and Benny, “Ken! Take the prisoner! I’ll take care of this!” he yells as he runs out of the bar. Ken takes Jimmy and cuffs him before dragging him away, all the while Jimmy whining about his rights and the need to call his dad who will straighten this all out for him.

Benny looks over at Willow, ‘So. 750 in platinum sounds good to me.”
