Topic: Destiny's Flight - A Serenity RPG
Subject: here we go......

"First off Captain, I would like to apologize for my mode of dress. my client is man of many needs and I am here as they say, on his payroll. " The young lady said as she entered the front room of the guest cabin. She was a companion, that could not be mistaken as she was very beautiful and had a strong allure to her in every way. But she had a skin tone and face that made her look not a day over 16 years old and the school girls uniform she wore added to her youthfulness.

"Atherton Wing has asked for me to be there for his birthday celebration, on Persophone. The event is two weeks away so I need a fast ship, as I have heard Destiny is if the stoies are true. Atherton is offering 3000 credits if you get me there on time. I will give you a deposit of 300 up from, and pay for your fuel tank to be filled. It will just be me, and about three pieces of luggage - I travel light and i promise to dress more demure during the flight. of course, there will be no servicing of you crew on my part - noi exceptions captain. I find it is best to keep things ... separated."

And so it began...

Tess did the astrogation and figured that you could be there in seven days, no problem. It would involve some straight path and hard burn but easy enough to do. the promise of 3000 credits certainly was a good one and after some checking, it was determined that Atherton was a very rich man on Persophone and known to a bit of a Wong Ba Duhn but would pay a lot for what he wanted.

Priscilla did dress in a more conservative style on board, and got alone with everyone quite well, except grace would did her usual retreat around strangers. She stayed to her room mostly and avoided any places that would cause issues. You didn't have any other passengers or cargo and she was more easier on the eyes than the 14 crates of chickens you hauled to Higgin's Moon before getting this job.

But Priscilla started to feel ill after a couple of days out. The ship doctor, Brian at first thought it was food poisoning (after all it was Ken's turn to cook last night) but the symptoms kept getting worse no matter what he gave her and getting worse fast. After two more days, Brian knew he was dealing with something that he couldn't do anything with the equipment he had on board - she had to be taken to a hospital.

The closest planet was Greenleaf - a fertile tropical paradise where medical companies grow remedies that can be chemically created, rich people vacation on expensive beaches and foodstuffs are grown in abundance. Problem was, Alliance doesn't let people land on Greenleaf without a clearance check and authorization code. But Priscilla's ID and Brian's urgent description of her condition get you a pass to land in a temperate zone closest to hospital - beside a town and wine making community called Momma's Vineyard.

A hover-ambulance is waiting and takes the companion and Brian away to the hospital. After 24 hours, Brian returns (on foot) to let the crew know that Priscilla is alive and recovering but it was a close call. Whatever got into her system, tore through it pretty bad and she will be three weeks recovering at the hospital at least. Brian got word through a nurse that the companion was poisoned with something that lay dormant for days before activating and doesn't leave a trace. It was only luck and Brian's attempt to isolate food poisoning that kept her alive this long. She would have had it for a day or two before coming on board, so the crew and ship are not under investigation and are free to go.

Three weeks is a long time, definitely pass the point of the Mr. Wing birthday. When you make the call to inform him, his assistant is polite, cordial but doesn't not offer you any compensation for the lost job - suggesting that the onus is on Priscilla.

So, you are stuck with no cargo. Greenleaf medical companies all use contract couriers, vacationers use luxury transports and you are neither. The wine merchants are a possibility but they usually ship with bigger boats than yours. Furthermore, the port authority here doesn't want you to stay around long and enforces it with a port docking of 30 credits a day! Not to mention that you really can't go anywhere as the taxis, food and access fees on this gorram planet are 100 credit per person at minimum.

You are all in the port authority Cantina Bar, the only place you can afford to drink (as long as you order Rum Punch or the local beer). You have put Destiny down as available on the want-ad boards and looked at the same boards for jobs (too big, guild, guild, guild, guild, too big, ick, guild).

The topic of deadheading to the nearest planet that might have cargo has come up when a man walks into the bar. He is a thin man, with thin brown hair, moustache and eyes that seem to be a bit bulged. (picture Steve Buscemi) He wears a white smock over his clothing that is stained with purple and red - a vintner, most likely. he looks around the mostly empty place and then comes directly over to your table.

"Hi!" He says with a nervous smile and a nod, "You the crew of that ship out there? The black one? I need a ship that can get some casks of wine to Osiris quickly. I mean real quick. Is it a fast ship? I need a fast ship. Real fast."

Subject: vaccuum suit

The Vacuum Suit is 67 credits. So you'd want at least 6, probably a spare (402-469).

You don't have to put the food stores in on this list. You will have to buy later to keep flying but it is assumed.

So that is 5750 appr (with 7 suits). So you will start the game with 250 in petty cash, plus the 300 deposit from the companion. You started with a fresh tank of fuel and would be half way now (300 hours)

Grace has a personal access terminal in her room with a home built dedicated source box, with a tri-level black coder/decoder. It is keyed to her thumb print, retinal scan and 128bit access code that she changes frequently but not in a regular (predictable) fashion. That won't be held against the cost of the ship.

You may want a few trap doors hidden in the floors/ceiling. The galley to the cargo bay is a possiblility. Also from Grace's room to aft cargo bay via ventilation ducts. Never know when secret doors might help you.

I have received a sixth character from Phelan (Celeste hubby). It is good, just needs the background filled in a bit.

Tann - Good idea for the headlights though I'm not sure where you got the silk. I'll just let that one go unanswered .... Since you do know the way to the doc's house, you have an EASY chance to get there without crashing. Of course, you never know when you gonna run into a wandering Brass Band or something.

I have to give props to MMV for such a "nutbar" character. I can see Grace as being a lot of fun in this game. Kinda of what a child of Kaylee and Jayee would turn out like.

First issue - sixth man

I don't want to delay the game much longer and lose people so my thoughts are to move ahead with teh crew we have and then if we need to, bring another person in later. However it has been suggested that the sixth person would be good now. Thoughts?

Second Issue - The ship

There are those who want to make the ship their own and tinker with the enhancements and equipment. There are those that don't care. If you want to be part of the upgrade party, let me know so we can get it done - and if no one does I will stock the ship as I see fit and we can move out.

Third issue - Starting the game

I will get this game started by the weekend. at a post a week, it will be a few weeks before Destint leaves Greenleaf so any "tweaking" can be done then.

Thank you to those who have provided blurbs, I will be posting them in the characters section soon. Those who have not (Grugg and MMV) - please get them to me.

dragonblood has bowed out due to time constrains. I think the crew is fine as is, with the caveat that you don't have much of a "face" person and you may need one later on.

Okay. After much ado, I have come up with this:

You have 6000 credits to use on the ship. From this 6000 you will need to look at upgrades, enhancements and equipment for general use. You should get a well stocked Infirmary - that is my strongest recommendation.

Now Celeste listed some equipment pricing here which is good. To enhance a stat of the ship (like raise the Willpower or intelligence) I will have to calculate it out.

If there is any cash left over, you can hold it for day to day expenses or divide it up to be spent on individual equipment (bullet proof dusters, hats etc)

I will be starting the game by this weekend. If I do not hear from DB by then, I will assume he is out and we an ask another person to join or go as is.

Topic: Voyages of Rocinante - Serenity/Firefly RPG
Subject: Here we go

Approaching Regina, Frisco, Day Nine 10:30 pm Planet Time

Sun was going down on Frisco, but there was enough light to see the black smoke coming from the town from beyond the ridge. No doubt about it, there was fire in town not long ago. Sam brought Rocinante down low behind the mountain ridge a mile or so away from the processing plant. Little chance that they'd be spotted flying in and with dark coming fast following twilight, he was sure that he could get out without being seen.

Wolf was at the hover mule making adjustment to the thrust and gyro control, tweaking them to the maximum output he could do without rewiring the entire unit. He double checked the brake lines too - just for good measures. Andrew came down with equipment in hand. He stowed it away under the seat to keep it handy and took a seat. (I will need a list of what you twp are taking in to town, including ammo)

Sam voice came over the comm, "You ready down there? Coming up to the drop point faster than Da-shiong bao-jah-shr duh la doo-tze!" We're going in hot and all your calls will be early. Shun-Sheng duh gao-Wahn!!! The ground is coming up mighty quickly. Should slow down some!"

With a quick turn and a change in the latitude thrusters, Sam wheels the boat around and puts it into a low hover. The engine strain, not liking the closeness to the ground. The cargo bay opens and Wolf puts the mule in gear while releasing the holding clamp. Like the proverbial bat out of hell returning, the hover mule is soon swallowed up by the darkness and is away.

"You bring Ash back you hear." Sam says quietly after turning the comm off. "Bring the Kid back with all parts moving."

Sam pulls Rocinante out of the ridge and swings around to a proper altitude before zooming in on the town. The night has taken hold now, but the lights for town seems muted, very few places were lit up, not like the nights you were there.

The control tower of the port authority is dark and you get no signal nor instructions as you approach. It seems like no one is home. With a shrug, Sam brings the Rocinante down on the pad it rested before. from the lights on the firefly you see the shuttle is not far from where you land, looking as good as when you left it.

Sam shuts down the engines and closes down the navigation. He leaps from his chair to head for his room to get his gear and donning his new ballistic vest. He meets Wyatt and Willow in the Cargo Bay. Beyond the lights of the ship, there is a world of darkness out there. Who knows what surprises it holds.

Ma sees the three of you off, wearing her body armour and carrying Bessy with a bandolier full of spare rounds. She waits until you leave, then closes the cargo bay doors a waits, like she always does.

OOC: Okay. If I don't hear from Rob I will equip Sam as I see fit. It is dark out now so are you bring lights? Is Wolf and Andrew drive with lights on? Your call. Yes, you will be easily spotted with light but you are less likely to run into a building and get yourselves killed.

Topic: Destiny Flight - QnA
Subject: Plot points

One key aspect to this game is Plot Points. They are points your charatcer gets for good roleplay, especially with playing on complications. You can use your plot poits to:

1. Add to your own rolls to improve chances.
2. To subtract from damage done in combat
3. Effect an outcome after the fact

Now I play them differently than the rules. If you use a plot point to enhance a roll 1 point gets you an extra d6. If you spent 2 points than you use d8, 3 = d10 etc. So if you really need to kill someone, you say in your post that you are adding a plot point and you get an extra d6 added to your roll.

If you get wounded in combat, you can get a die roll taken off your damage. So you have been shot for 12 points of damage (6 points of stun and 6 of wounds). You post you wish to decrease the damage with a plot point and I roll a 6. That would reduce the total damage to 6 so you would have 3 stun and 3 wound and I would post that the wound looks worst than it is.

If you choose after the fact to use a plot point, like after you missed hitting the rope that holds the wagon wheel over the bar, then you need to spent 2 points to get a d6 and 2 more for a d8. Expensive after the fact.

Now all players will start with 6 plot points. use them wisely.

Note - I am hoping to get the game started tonight even if the ship isn;t completely ready. This isn't a take off in a few post start (unless you do something really foolish)

Would like to go on a post but I think I will try to let Vanadia post tonight and then do one tomorrow. So let me get this straight - you will drop Wolf and Professor out the cargo without stopping. Next you land at the part authority, get out and head to the mine to meet Brigit? While you are in mine, W, P and A get together and ... take out the deputies?

Just want to make sure we are all on the same page.

Greta takes one of the G41 rifles and a sidearm as Luke works on the engine. If she is to watch for the "enemy" she might as well be prepared for it. She shakes her head at the enormity of her situation. She laughs ruefully and says to no one in particular, "Well, Intrepid did say I'd get caught up in field work. Not sure if this is what he meant." She smiles at the young American medic who brings her food and nod when he suggest coffee. She wouldn't need the coffee to stay alert tonight.

When the reach the gatehouse before the bridge, great knows something is wrong. "This should be manned at all times and the guards would not leave their posts lightly unless ordered to - be wary, it could be a trap" she whispers.

The darkness of the mountains is foreboding and the silent seems to hang over everything. There is no sounds beyond the wind and branches - even birds and insects seem to avoid this place.

The team takes their places with Brutal on point as usual. Ms. Hofstetter, stays at the back of the party as does McGuiness to cover at distance. She seems to be well versed with the rifle, holding with a porfessional poise and detachment.

Just before the gatehouse, Brutal (at point) spots something on the roadway - it is another schmeisser, but on the ground discarded. He raises his fist to call halt and reaches down - the weapon is very warm, the muzzle is bent as if hit or twisted by force. Pulling off the mag he sees it is empty. There is no sign of anything fight here, no shell casings in the area.

Odyson's list is correct except that there are only two Schmeissers. There have been some posting of taking weapons.

I will be taking over the role of Greta as an NPC. Vanadia doesn't really have to time to game right now.

Extra Weapons and stuff as I have recorded (correct me if wrong):

Luke - Gewehr 98 rifle, Luger
Romo - Schmeisser
Reid - Betolla
Brutal - Shotgun, Binoculars, Schmeisser
McGuiness - bayonet, torch
Greta - Luger and g41 rifle

Please state if you are taking something as if you do not, I assume it is left behind as you can't carry everything. Round it up here in the Q&A before we get over the bridge please.

Seems like #2 is the most popular with #4 a close second.

For for some of the comments made, I was trying to capture the idea of Destiny in the emblem. I am not a graphic artist by any stretch of the imagination so if someone wants to offer an alternative, feel free.

As well, in Serenity they are not spaceships - you will notice that no one calls them that. They are called boats, "the" is never used before the name - hence Serenity not The Serenity. JW did this with the purpose that vessel was more than a mode of transport.

Don't worry about finding all the costs yet Celeste. I will provide that when the time comes.
