Subject: VTOL without the VT

Well ....

You have only one thruster to create the lift needed for a Vertical Takeover. Tess would be piloting under near Impossible Complex conditions with a botch leading to flipping the ship. However she has Plot points she has not used.

However you still have to wait for the core to cool before you can replace the shielding and it has only been two hours since you landed - you will need at least another two hours before it is cool enough to attempt.

These are the repairs needed:
The Primary Buffer Panel, still intact, cabling and connectors severed. Re-cable. (1-2 hours)
Containment Jacket, punctured, replace. (wait 4 hours, replace 1/2 hour)
Port side Drive Pod beat up but intact. Interior turbine total loss replacement needed.
Replacement turbine space flight doors needed.
Minor damage to the hull, negligible no need to repair at present time. (High end estimate repair time 3-4 days)

You have only one drive pod and you need two to lift off. Not to say I wouldn't listen to a creative way to get it into the air. However if you do get airborne and into the black, your next landing will be very difficult.

I am on my phone but I am pretty sure the repairs you need to do will take a lot longer than 3-4 hours. You are stuck on the planet unless you can find a miracle,

You have caves you could hide in, or the processor building or Rocinante. But really, you are in your own little Serenity Valley right now. Outgunned, nowhere to run. Your advantage is that they can not bombard you because they want the violin.

I did a small post for John's progress and just filled in the blanks on the situation on the ground. I am assuming that Willow will run to Havelock's aid. You may post again to continue the story if you have already.

As always, feel free to ask questions if anything is not clear.

BTW - I was looking for input on the bulletproof vests and their longevity after use. Especially from any of you who use different systems.

LV-426, Atmo Processor, Upper floor, 8:25 am PT

John moved through the control room and to the ladder to the next level up. Although not an expert on terraforming, John was pretty sure of what was awaiting him and he wasn’t disappointed. The upper most level was dominated by a huge tank in the centre of the room. This tank would have been used to break down frozen elements of atmosphere (Nitrogen, oxygen, CO2) for rapid dispersal. After that, the tank would have been filled with water and a genetically enhanced algae that would super produce oxygen. Above, in the ceiling were vents leading up to at least half the building height of blowers, turbines and fans to force the gases into an atmosphere. Amazing to thin kabout as it took decades to complete.

The transparent aluminum of the tank was stained with algae and John shook his head in disgust that the Terrraformers did not tae the time to clean the tank properly. Of course, that meant someone could harvest the remaining algae if they had the time, but right now, John did not.

He moved back down to the main floor and started to fire up the battery for the control system. He would need to find a schematic of the building to find the best fit turbine – otherwise he’d be crawling through tubes and shafts for hours.

LV-426, Emergency Landing Field, Outside rear of Rocinante, 8:30 am PT

Wyatt pointed the shotgun up and at a slight angle before pulling the trigger resulting in a powerful boom.

"Go Hwong Tong (Enough of this nonsense)!" Firing another shell into the air, the captain looked about and declared in his most authoritative voice, "Calm down and gather about. Now."

The blast did not stop everyone from panicking but it did stop many. The boys from the physics lab, the Queen Bee and her girls, and a smattering of other lords and ladies seem to draw strength from Captain’s Wyatt calm demeanor and unwillingness to give into madness. Lord Hood was off his feet and beside his friend Havelock, asking Willow if there was anything he could do. But at the call of Wyatt’s voice he stood up to stand beside the Captain.

“My friends, we must listen to Captain Wyatt. He has gotten us through so far, we must be ready to do as he says to survive.” Lord Hood exclaims.

As the crowd quieted Ash started, “That fits…. These Mercenary guys are the Heilong Commandos. They was in my Big Guns and Bigguns mag….. It said they started out square enough when the Browncoats took them into service, but they went bad quick. They was hunted down by the Purplebellies right quick and no one was the sorrier fer it. That was until that Black Bart Chung raised them from the dead 'bout three years back though. He took up right were the first group left off, but didn't even pretend to be square. They was killers then, and they is killers now. Theys 'bout as wanted as any group o' folk can be, but you know the Feds, can't find their own pi gu with both hands and a mirror. So how do ya'll 'spect them to find a set of killer what don't want to be found? It said if’n ya ever hear the Heilong is comin' ya way, you’s best find a way to git yerself gone or they'll spill your blood just fer breathin'. It even said that they gives the Reavers a bad name……………If’n we only gots three hours … we best get a wiggle on. "

Matherson clears his throat, “Well these men seem to be looking for a fiddle of some value to be going through all this trouble and I can guarantee you it is not in that case.” He points to the musicain holding the silver case. “Captain, My men and myself will offer whatever aid you wish, but I demand my case be returned to me, and you better talk to this pretty lady about where the other case is.” He says moving his finger to Beatrix Kiddo (Jessie).

Justin attempts to open the case and becomes highly agitated when he cannot, “This is not the case. I need my case back! It holds a Stradivarius! It is a violin from a supreme craftsman from Earth-that-was. There are only two in existence. It is so valuable that people would have killed for it back on Earth, making it worth, “ Justin looks around at everyone staring at him and the bodies at your feet, “More than all our lives together. By Buddha, they are after the Stradivarius and I don't know where it is now!"

All eyes turn to the young lady in the slinky dress...

Once you get the armour off the bodies, each one of them has this tattoo on their arms/shoulder. None of them have any federal marshall credentials either.

Dillon has 150 credits on him in cash.

The two guards have 50 credits each.

Body armour and bullet proof vests. They don't last forever and after taking a shot, the usefulness of one is suspect. No rule in Serenity on this but found plenty in real life and other rule systems.

So....

Here are some ideas I have for life span of BPV

Simple - The armour rating is how many bullets it can take before they are useless. so -1W is one hit, -2W two hits etc etc.

Basic roll - 2d4 plus armour rating. So a -5 suit would take 7 to 13 shots

Soak method - d6 for every armour rating point represents the damage it can absorb before becoming useless.

Percentage - every hit represents a 10% chance of armour failure.

Thoughts? Anyone familiar with other systems?

Not sure I understand why you are applying for said license. Is this an employment thing or a requirement of some sort?

Armour - I figure the armour would have to be somewhat flexible to size as who wants to buy custom outfits for each person you are equipping. So I would say the armour will fit Wolf but would be snug. Keep in mind the limitations I have given (-2 AGL while wearing) and that they have already absorbed so much damage at your hands as well. Armour does not last forever (2-4 rounds tops)

Mercenaries are usually well armed so alliance might be hesitant to go after them. Especially Merc that do the black ops for the alliance.

I am sorry but I do not know much about guns and shooting. Why are you doing a test? Is this a personal thing or are you attempting to reach some goal?

You all hold at least one share. Wyatt and Willow hold two shares i believe.

Armour - Tactical suit -5W. (-2 step penalty to Agility). Worth 110 credits. Highly illegal to own (impersonating an officer, possession of stolen material from military, attempting acts of terrorism, planning acts of ....)

The helmets are ruined, cracked from within. They were tinted so they would have been useless at night.

LV-426, Emergency Landing Field, Outside rear of Rocinante, 8:25 am PT

The ASREV lifted off as Wolf attempted to shoot it down with blind luck and foul language. Other than a trail of sparks and a light show, it did nothing. Looking up at the bomb bay doors and the underside of the autocannons, the mechanic quickly had a image of that ship crashing down with armaments and exploding, making him glad he was unable to bring it down.

As the armour of the craft deflected his shots as he tried to break the glass. Asher for a brief moment saw the pilot as the ASREV pulled up to his level. He was not wearing a marshal's uniform and alliance military but dark green with a helmet imprinted with a black dragon breathing fire while in flight. The emblem tweaked a memory in Asher's mind - he had seen that before.

On the ground, Wyatt was coming around as was marshall Dillon but he was covered by the body guard Hack who had disarmed him before.. The guard stung by Willow was still on the ground unmoving. Willow examined Havelock would was surprisingly alive despite taking three shots to the chest. The man muttered something in his pain but held on the consciousness and life.

Tess takes the walking stick away from Matherson and the blue glow dies immediately as she takes it from him. Slash keeps his hands in the air as Ma covers him but he continues to protest like he didn't do anything wrong.

Wyatt shakes out the grogginess and headache from his head and starts to get ready to stand when a pretty young lady by his side says to him, “Easy, it is over… for now.”

Wolf disarmed the guard and motioned to get some passengers to help him but the guard began to move as he did, not fast in any way but still moving.

“So what’s the processor look like, can we get it out fast and back to the ship? I have a feeling we would be better off this rock ASAP” Wolf calls to John on the Comm while keeping his weapon on the guard.

John quickly replied, "I haven't the slightest what the processor looks like quite yet, I've been a bit preoccupied. Right now, however, you need to get everyone away from the ship. I believe it's just become a very, very large and immovable target."

Dillon starts to laugh as he watches the ASREV go up in the air, a horribly insane kinda laugh, "You think you won? You bought yourself three hours, maybe four at most. Wilson will bring the others, no escape for you hun dan meddlers, fiddle will be ours soon enough. Mark my words, the Boss is in too deep to let this go, he’ll kill all of you to get that treasure.” He laughs hysterically, "The Heilong are coming! You'll wish for reavers! You hear me! You'll wish for reavers!!"

Suddenly the guard in front of Wolf twitches and there is a noise like a pop. Then he falls flat on the ground, completely still as blood begins to pool out of his helmet. The guard that Willow knocked out does the same thing.

As Dillon laughs he suddenly stops as his head spasms unnaturally, his eye explode out of the sockets and blood spews out of his nose and mouth as he too falls dead before you.

This proves to be too much strain for the passengers of the cruise line and blind panic takes hold. Some run to Rocinante's Hold, while others just run without rhyme or reason and many are just crying about dying on this rock and no hope for survival.

"What a mess." Hack comments as he hold his gun up, "What now boss?"

I may have an opportunity to post this evening. Now Ody and Bro have not posted yet but Wyatt is waking up and I am pretty sure I know what Ody will be doing (firing at ASREV pilot).

It would be a short time frame post - less than five minutes of game time. But it would move you along and give you some information.

Since Giddy did not specify he was replying to Wolf only, I will say that he broadcasted across all.

So yes, Asher heard the message.

There is certainly enough room to fit everyone on the moon currently in the Atmo processor building. The ship would fit except the doors do not open wide enough to get it inside. Please note the building is made to vent and create air and is not armoured in the least, however, on a scale level it is same as spaceship.

Just a "heads up" though. There are two large metal objects in the immediate area that would be very very very easy to target from space and fire missiles at. One is Rocinante. The other is the Atmo Processor.

The ramp would be all the way up by the time that Asher or Wolf could have targeted the system.

Well I understand your desire to take down the ASREV, it is asking a lot to expect that you have any chance of doing so. It has the equivalent of 600 Life points to you and you you would be doing only 1/2 basic damage if I was feeling generous. It would be like taking down a Dragon with a peashooter and foul language.

Just for the record, I am not going to do any evil GM trick here of having the bullets falling back down at terminal velocity or the ricochets into the crowd of passengers.

Your Captain is down and really you don't know if he is alive or not. Havelock is bleeding from a chest wound he took to save innocent passengers. Willow was just manhandled roughly. You have three captives. It seems to me that there are more pressing matters to attend to than a hopeless attempt to take down a ship that would have to crash land ....somewhere.
