Subject: Some liberty taken
It was raining in the city. It was the hard rain, the cold rain, the kind of rain that cuts through skin and bone and chills you to the very soul with the knowledge of your own mortality. The kind of night that nobody wants to be caught outside and the kind of night that where evil thinks it holds sway of the city. As the rain dripped off my fedora and soaked through the black overcoat I was wearing, I stood there and thought to myself – not tonight.
I was standing on the rooftop of the Tip-Top building when I heard the scream. I looked down to see a woman running down a blind alley with four young hooligans in pursuit. She had abandoned her high heels and her purse in hopes to get away from the men chasing her but they weren’t interested in money or fashionable pumps. They were hunting her.
She found out that the alley had no escape all too soon and screaming for help. The leader of the gang laughed and approached her saying, “Scream all you want lady. Nobody is gonna hear you and nobody is gonna help you!”
Sounds like my cue.
I leapt down from the rooftop and landed between her and the boys. They weren’t expecting trouble, and certainly not trouble my size. “You are absolutely right there kid.” I said, drawing myself up to my full height and looking down on them, “Nobody is gonna help, and I’m Mr. Nobody.”
I punched the leader in the chest, lightly, cause didn’t want to kill the kid. He was young, he could still learn. Got him in the air nicely with some hang time and then he landed in the garbage dumpster. Gave me an idea too.
I thought the three would scatter but one came at me with a knife in his hand while the other two had baseball bats. “Okay boys,” I said, “You want to play, let’s play.” The one with a knife swung at me wildly, so wildly I was more worried that he was gonna cut himself. I ended that quickly with another light tap and got him into the dumpster as well.
Two for two – my lucky night.
The baseball wannabes swung at me as well. I could have taken them out but I started the game and wanted to finish it. One of them smashed his bat over my shoulder and it shattered into pieces. “Strike One, “ I said and put him into the dumpster.
Three for three. – I should buy a race ticket.
The last one still came at me. I don’t get kids nowadays. No sense of self-preservation. I dodged a swing and said, “Strike two.” He swung wild again and again and again so I knocked the bat out of his hand and and grabbed him by his shirt and with a light toss, threw him to join his friends.
Four nothing – game over.
I walked down the alley and picked up the purse and the shoes and brought them back to the lady. Of course, she starts screaming more.
“Whoa lady! I’m the good guy!”
Scream
“You want to give me a break lady?”
Scream
“I said STOP IT!” I shouted. She finally stopped screaming but she still looked at me with fear in her eyes. I hate that look. She had nothing to fear from me. “Here is your stuff.” I said handing her the bag and shoes.
She recoiled back, “Keep them!” She said.
“Umm... The shoes aren’t my size lady and I don’t think the pink purse goes with my ensemble.” I replied soberly.
She began to calm down and took the items.”Who are you? How did you ...?”
“Me? I’m Nobody lady. Mr. Nobody. As to how, well that would need more time than I have.” I dug into my pockets and grabbed some change, “Here! You go to the corner outside this building and there’s a grocery named Wong. He has a payphone. Call the police or a friend or whatever. I’ll watch you from the rooftop to make sure you are safe. Normally I'd stay but I have a date.”
She nodded at me, “Thank you. For everything.”
I tipped my hat to her, “Lady, that just made my night.” And I leapt up to the top of the building, watching her as she ran to Wong’s place. Then it dawned on me – I was gonna be late!
I ran across rooftop and jumped from building to building towards the church of Our Lady of Victory. I was making really good time despite the rain and was almost at the church when it hit me – The big Oak tree out back of the church. I crashed through the branches and rolled to the ground. Branches fell all around me and when I looked up there was a large man shaped gap in the tree. So much for my lucky night.
Damn it. I need to get some all-weather gear. Maybe Wreaker could help me with that.
I entered through the dark side of the church and slipped into the building and into the main chapel. Everyone was there already and Father O’Brien was looking at me funny. Actually, everyone was, and then I realized that I still had a branch of the oak tree stuck in my jacket. I pulled it out and leaned it against the altar, “Umm sorry about the oak tree, Father, “I said, “It fought valiantly.”
(some sort of Priestly reply)
"Thank you for coming," he says. "I know it's a short notice, but this required some urgency." He stretches his arm to the door and into the room walked trouble, overdressed and and in red.
"These are the friends I told you about," The padre was saying. "Please, tell them what you told me."
"My name is Gwendolyn Marionette-Stern. Professor Albert Stern is my husband." And so she begins her story. I listened up to the part where she mentioned zygma waves. That was the waves that made me the monster I am today! I wonder if her husband could fix me? Or at least make me more human again. I was so busy thinking about the possibilities that I missed the rest of what she was saying.
"Please," she implored. "Sebastian needs his father and I need my husband. Can you find him?"
“Lady, can you give us something more to go on? It is a big city and he is one guy. Where did he hang out? Who were his friends and associates? Who would he go to if he was in a jam? Any little detail might help.” I asked.

With Tann's Trilogy game reaching 10 years I decided to look up Rocinante and at the end of the year, we are looking at 8 years of still flyin'.
Ain't much but it somethin'
I have a post for Rocinante (7 pages), I am just waiting to see if Bromern is going to add a part to it so I can do Havelock's death scene with Wyatt in it.

I think Mal would want to meet the Baron and Templeton before making a firm plan. Like in Heart of Gold, he'd want to get a reading on the men he was facing. He would have a sketchy plan at best until then.
Until then, at least you have steaks for dinner.

I have to agree with you on the Accurate attack vs the Power attack. I left it on as it was part of the archetype but accurate does make more sense. If Oskar will let me change it, great but otherwise it is fine as is.

I have to say Ayrn that you have managed to remind me why I normally avoiding being a player instead of a GM. This level of min/max how to make your character has no appeal to me whatsoever.
I do not know the M&M system well and in an online game it is not important to know the rules thoroughly as the GM rolls everything. So if Oskar wants to kill me, I have no control.
I joined this game because I like superheroes. I had a concept for a tough guy who was super strong, near invulnerable and who just wanted to be accepted and noticed for once in his life. I am really looking forward to playing him and I don't care if he is the absolute best that he can be. In fact, that is part of his charm, he is not. I am here for the roleplay, not the rules.
I think it was Gary Gygax who said the greatest danger to D&D was that the GMs would realize they don't need the rules.

"So Seth. " Stephanie began, "You have heard a lot said at this point. We need to know where you stand on things."
Lilianna grunted, "He serves my dad and is here to make me go through with the wedding."
"That is not true," Seth replied, "I do serve your father and he has been very good to me and my family. However, what he charged me with was your protection and well being up to the point of your wedding. I am not here to force you to do anything."
"I don't believe you."
"I am sorry I have not earned your trust Lilianna. If you remember, it was I who kept my silence when you continued to see Daniel. I took the picture that you so cherish now. It was you who told me that Daniel was not a part of your life anymore and that you were moving on."
"I told you that to throw off my stepfather."
"Well then you were undone by your own deception then because I do not report to your father regularly. He trusts me to watch over you and protect you and has faith in me. I can only hope that one day you may have the same faith."
"You're lying!" Lilianna cried.
"Actually my dear, that is unlikely, " Stephanie said mildly while sipping her coffee. " The drugs that I gave Seth for his back have a peculiar effect on people that makes them more open and honest. However I can see where you might have thought that Seth was the enemy and did not realize it"
"I have no desire to force you into a marriage that you are not willing to be part of, nor are my instructions to carry you there unwilling." Seth said, "However I will not be party to any endeavours that put your father at risk and if you do choose to seek him harm, I will be forced to defend him with my life."
"Oh I am sure that Jon is coming up with the most diplomatic plan that he can right now." Stephanie said plainly. She looked over to the brothers, "Would you two be a dear and pick up Miss Asante her and carry her to her room? She might as well be comfortable as she sleeps."

I had a place to stay set up as the basement of the ACME labs that no one knew about. Now I did that because I thought we'd be starting as independent operators but I guess it could serve as an alternate.

The Hq works well for Mr. Nobody because with his face and size he can't realy go into stores or restaurants. This gives him a place where he can get help and assistance.
But his Cat, Mr. Tibs has to be allowed!!!

I had said that I was moving to a module called "Who Mourns for Adonis" after this but I have found another which has a nice lead into from this adventure, involving returning to Serenity Valley to bury Havelock among the men he left behind.
Mmv will be taking on the role of pilot for Rocinante as Jade Storm.

Sheriff of some backwater pisspot town on the edge of nowhere and whocares is not going to cause a blip in the records of the marshalls.If anything it would mean a chance to add another charge against you.
Feds have a standard operating procedure for dealing with the situation that you are in. Nancy, and the four from the Defiant will stand by you though, plus 72 high ranking passengers.

Asher has not shared the combination or access code of the hidey hole gun cabinet. He actually went to great length to keep the project to himself, doing the work himself and on the quiet.
Tann - in game terms there is nothing wrong with wanting a gun collection but just like the real world we live in, there are ramification and consequences. You have a permit to carry a gun if I remember correctly. You went through a process to get the licence to carry that was regulated by the gov't.
In the alliance based world, a pistol or rifle is no big deal. You can get away with it, in most places. However there are weapons that are considered illegal to carry: Machine guns, assault rifles, laser weapons etc etc. You can get a permit to have them, or work in a profession to carry them but they are illegal and if found on your ship will have dire consequences. This is one of the reasons that freighters don't usually arm themselves. You get caught and you are off to Perdition and your ship sold to pay the lawyer who defends you.
Now, as the character Fenris (Wolf) Apollo, you have d6 in guns and d12 in pistols. Yet you never use a pistol, you always go for machine guns and assault rifles. So you are not playing to your characters strengths. You are using a d6 for most of your combat when you could be using a d12. In fact, it was a lucky roll that saves Wolf from extreme injury and instead shot Hartigan first. Wolf also has martial arts, knife fighting and brawling skill and again, you don't use them much.
The other aspect of having a gun collection is that Asher bought all those guns - most of them twice due to Sam. He didn't take them off the men who fought beside him to defend his ship, nor from enemies he had killed. Now that is a moral/alignment/personal choice but it seems icky to me.
Anyway, you chose what your character does, I can only advise you.

After much discussion and planning, The Khord Cleric takes matters in his own hand and leads the party through the east exit of the wine cellar.
Here are two black openings at either end of an apparently empty hallway. Two more black openings face one another halfway down the lengths of the longer walls. In each long wall is also a wooden door. The doors are across from one another and at one end of the length of the hall.
Nothing is in this corridor except you and you came in through the northern entrance.
