Subject: special gear and powers

I want to run this game with you without special gear or anyone having magical powers. If this game continues, then you will accumulate stuff and get points to use towards knowledge and (perhaps) someone will develop arcane powers.

Standard ammo in the game is completely made up by me. You get 5 clips for your main weapons and 3 for the sidearms. If you want more, just in case you may take some but I will stop you short of doubling that amount. McGuiness has a special rifle and ammo and his amounts are on his character sheet. I am not a bullet counting GM usually unless people start firing auto into every room.

Grenades - 2 each, again you can ask for more but don't be surprised if you blow up in a hand to hand fight (oops)

I will address the shotgun and salt requests in my post.

Where is Grugg?

Day 1, Moringstar's Ranchhouse, 6:40 PM PT

"I appreciate you takin' this meetin' Mr. Morningstar. We was instructed t' see you 'fore delivering the Old Warhorse t' his final resting place in Serenity Valley. Told you'd have the know-how t' get us through the dangers that be, " Wyatt said while shaking Morningstar's hand.

"What my dear captain means, " Willow interjected smoothly," is that we hope you've received word of our mission. Captain Havelock's family has received Alliance permission to put him to rest in Serenity Valley, among his men. We understand you've mapped some of the Valley and may be able to help us accomplish this safely. Have we understood correctly? "

Morningstar looked confused by Wyatt's opening but then clarity came to his face as Willow explained further. "Havelock!" He said aloud, "Oh yeah. I got a wave from a Federal Marshall about Havelock." he returned to his desk and began punching on the screen of the cortex box.

"Captain Havelock." The Shepherd said, "I read about him and a group of transport crew that found against a mercenary band. " Was that you people?"

(assuming a yes it was)

"Mighty brave of you. Standing against so many for the lives of a group of people you never knew before you rescued them." He continued, "Were you well rewarded in the end?"

(whatever you choose)

"I would have thought that after saving so many rich and generous folks that you be livng large and putting the fright trade behind you?"

(whatever you choose)

"Aha!" Virgil called out, "Yes I do have a letter here for a Colonel Sanders. Oh my!" Virgil face fell a bit, "he was with the 42nd Infantry. " He exchanged a look of dread with the Shepherd who walked over to look over his shoulder. Carson also grimaced. "Sorry to say that records are a bit sketchy and frankly we have more markers out there with no name than we have ones with. The good news is we know where the 42nd is but the bad news is they area is not cleared of ordinance."

Morningstar turned the screen around so everyone could see. There were marked areas on the map for units and some were in green, others in red. The 42nd was in the red zone but not too far from the green edge. "Now I can ask Jon to get some of his boys together, have them go out in the morning to clear and area to the 42nd and you can lay him to rest by the afternoon assuming there ain't no hitches. If there is, well it should be much longer than that. He has come a long way, I'd rather see him in the right place. Are you in a hurry?"

"Perhaps Virgil could get you a few complimentary rooms at the hotels in town? Or we have a five star Noodle House in town?" Shepherd Carson suggests quietly.

Day 1, Serenity View's Spaceport, 6:20 PM PT

"Firefly eh? Nice machine. Take you anywhere even if half the parts fail on you. Those aren't the factory drive pods are they? You had work done recently?"

"Yeah you could say that" Wolf smiled at Chewie and took another drink when offered. "Few weeks back we were on a transport run when we heard this mayday. Was from one of those high priced Star liners. Seems they had a hull failure and needed off of it quick. Well we found them and got them off all safe and sound but as we were moving away she blew and caused us a lot of damage to the engines so we had to land quick. Ended up on this no name husk of rock and waited there till a passing Alliance ship found us. Well some of the rich passengers were so happy to be alive they paid for new engines and now we are returning the body of one of them that did die, a fine gentleman name of Havelock."

"What!" Chewie said loudly, "That was you? I heard about you on the Vids! Killer mercenary slavers trying to snag rich people for ransom and sex slaves! Wow! Were you there? Like in the thick of fighting?"

"Chewie!" Captain Case admonished lightly, "Give the man a chance to breathe first. I am sorry to hear of the loss of your friend. I am surprised they allowed you to bring him back here. I thought Serenity Valley was a closed site by now."

(assuming some response about events and the mission)

"Well Mr. Apollo, it is a pleasure to have made you acquaintance. I have things to do and I should really check on Billie but it has been an honour. I hope to see you around. We might be over at a saloon in town called Whistler's tonight if you have some off time. Maybe we will see you then." And with that the captain goes back to the ship through the Cargo Bay."

Chewie turns to Wolf, "Tell me what happened? I want to hear the whole thing. The cortex had it some like unification war all over again."

Day 1, Serenity View's Spaceport Tower, 6:20 PM PT

Jade made her way over to the tower of the spaceport. It was clear to her from the ground and the air upon approach that the field was recently broaden to allow greater access. But they were using only half of the area so far so they were expecting a lot more traffic in the future.

The tower wasn't renovated and the ground crew was running around in a state of rush that comes from being a single crew dealing with orders from 3x as many ships. Jade decided to wait to talk to them and entered the tower itself and headed up to the watch deck via the lift.

The tower was busy too but there were a lot of staff using makeshift desks and cortex consoles wired haphazardly across the ceiling and floor. An older woman sat in the controller chair near the centre and was using a head set to talk to someone while she worked at her station.

"Yeah, i know that you'd like us to do that but it is not going to happen. Rules are rules and I am not breaking rules without someone saying that I have permission to do so. Yes, I realize your time is valuable but so is mine." She paused and rolled her eyes before seeing Jade standing there, "Hey! I am the boss here. You got issues, you deal with me. The law was in place when you signed the papers and it ain't my fault you didn't due the diligence. So you go to Virgil, Tell him Vivian says hi and let me know how it works for you." She clicked the headset and looked over at Jade, "Hi there. Vivian my name and I am the controller here. If you are waiting for maintenance, my crew will be there as soon as they can. If you are looking for a job, can you do ship maintenance?"

The mission is planning to drop you as close to dusk as possible. It is a 6 hour flight from London to Egypt on a jury rigged C-47 filled with fuel tanks to make it there and back without stopping. Hopefully no one shoots at you along the way.

Special Chutes? You get the most special chute of all - a Standard Issue parachute with a cord that hooks to a rail so you don't have to pull it for yourself. Hard to beat that kind of classy. Of course, if you want to unpack your chute and add some cords and then repack and jump with it, the boys will be more than happy to watch and make fun of you before your horrible death.

This is WWII boys! You want special equipment, fill in a requisition form #4af47b in triplicate and file it with the proper channels.

Although they are fast moving, the wererats have a lot of ground to cover. Sparrow and Finarsil keep up the barrage of arrows, swiftly taking down rat after rat as they go. Maximus hurls his axes at the wave as well, killing a monster and then catching the returning axes. (5 dead)

Arien and Kadrin move forward to attack the lead creatures and attack with gusto. These wererats are no match for the fighting skills of both warrior and spears cannot pierce their armour either. Four of the foes are dead before the others even move close to attack. (4 dead)

Jarenion attacks with a quick spell that brings hail and ice down upon the attacks. The beasts are battered but the hard lumps and many go down to the magical attack. (9 dead, 4 wounded)

Lun brings forth a Wall of Fire, 300 feet long across the path of the coming horde. Many of them have nowhere to dodge or flee and are consumed in the flames. Others jump back from the flames with fur burning or singed. (10 dead, 6 wounded)

Ody releases a Firestorm upon the remaining Wererats. Those that were wounded before are consumed by the flames and others are roasted by the fire. (7 dead, 10 wounded)

OOC - Is it getting hot in here? 35 of the charging WR dead (12 more dead from before), 20 wounded and 5 managed to avoid the hurt but will have to run around the wall of flames.

None of you were injured this round

It smells pretty bad in here now.

Topic: Weird War II
Subject: some answers from Darling

"So ... Colonel Darling ... Sir! No trace of Panzers?"

"No. The panzers are mostly focused in Tunisia and Algeria and they are having a hard time keeping the supplies flowing to where they are, let alone the deep parts of Egypt. Three lorries means at least 30 men on detached duty, looking to haul back antiquities."

After's Alistaria's report

Thank you Lieutenant Thanatos, as always you leave me wondering why we have a research division when we have you. Imagine what would happen if this staff worked and the jerries could summon up water and food in the desert? They wouldn't need to wait on their supply lines. Water that heals? It boggles the mind to consider that in Hitler's grimy hands."

Honestly, mummies, right? You ever hear anything about how to fight a mummy? Or any other legends of Egyptian critters we need to prepare for? Is there anything we need to be sure to bring?"

"Ahh yes, excellent question Private McGuiness. " Darling answered and pulled a folder of papers out of his bag, "On this topic, I may have, for once, more relevant information. I managed to get a copy of Howard Carter's notes for the KV62 incident. It was not easy as Pierre Lacau had forbidden any copies to be made and thought he had destroyed them all. Luckily I was able to talk to Mina ... I mean Almira Herbert, the former Countess of Carnarvon and she had her personal assistant write us a copy of the only notes left in England. I am afraid they are a bit spotty, as Carter was not a military man and clearly shaken up by the events that lead up to the excavation of KV62." Darling looks up from his musings and realizes everyone is staring at him with some surprise, "Oh yes, the King Tut affair was a very violent one with many things that were, how shall I say it - unexpected. Luckily the media took off with the" Mummy's curse" rot and we swept most of it under that rug. But keep in mind that does not mean you will be dealing with the same here. "

Summary of Carter's notes: Carter makes reference to meeting up with undead and supernatural while excavating the famous Tut's tomb. He ran into zombie like creatures raised from the servants, animals and minions buried within the tomb. He ran into spirits and apparitions that sucked the life out the living as well as statues that animated and attacked people. He also faced a well-preserved priest that was able to cast fire and lightning around and could not be killed until they found all the canopic jars that held his inner organs and destroy them. The Tut mummy itself never rose up against them.

Low level Undead - extreme trauma to the head kills them. Fire also kills but slower.

Spirits and ghost like creatures - Cannot cross barrier of salt, shotgun spray of salt disperses them (disperse as in they dematerialize and take some time to reform), sunlight/bright light causes them to disperse. No known way of killing

Statues and inanimate objects - a lot of damage until the structural integrity of object gives way

Higher Undeads (embalmed undead) - Head shots do not work, fire and strong light drives them back but setting them on fire only makes them angry and more dangerous (flaming undead). Canopic jars seem to hold their souls so they all have to be destroyed to kill them. Sunlight may work but they are usually far underground.

"How about you ... Colonel Darling ... Sir? Any Theories?"

"None that I care to conjecture Corporal Miller. I believe we have seen enough things that were beyond our scope of expertise to not dismiss this as balderdash and poppycock. The SS certainly believes they have potential so we must assume the same.

Baron Fairchild took in the Captain and the crew and the ship in a glance but Jon doubted he was looking at things with curiosity. "Captain Brown." He said slowly and smiled, "Captain Jon Brown. Jon Brown. That is a nice looking ship you have there. I don't much about ships but something about that one is, well, like looking a Black Bellerophon mare coming down a gangplank - you know there is a lot of goodness to be had." The baron shook Jon's hand and then moved to Seth, "Seth my boy! Good to see you. Good to see you." He gave the big bodyguard a arm clasp with warmth and then pulled a badge out of his pocket to hand to Seth, "This is for you, so you can carry your weapons onboard. Keyed to your DNA so the scanners know to let you through."

"Baron, " Seth said seriously, "You should know that Asante ..."

"Hold on Son," the Baron stopped him, "The Captain already got me a message and we will talk but right now I need you to do something for me. I need you to watch over Lilliana from now and until the ceremony. I no doubt she probably doesn't want to see me."

"You are very right there Baron," Seth agreed.

"Well I understand that, we have been fighting a lot the past few days. You keep her safe. I trust you Seth."

"Yes Baron."

He turned back to Jon and JC, "Now gentlemen. JC was it? You go over there to the security folk and show them your arm and I am sure they can make it right as rain." captain, How about we take a walk aways from the dock here." He gestures down the airlock corridor toward the cruise liner.

(assuming you go with him)

"Now Captain. I have to start by saying I think that a grave mistake was made on the part of my go between Mr. Badger and you. The price I offered to pay for daughter's safe transport was much higher than what was offered you. Now that is what you get when you use go-betweens and middle men. So let me tell you - I want to do right by you. I want you to keep Lilianna on your ship until the ceremony tomorrow. Do not let anyone see her - not even me. I figure you are the safest place righ tnow for her, one way in, heavily guarded and no chance of sneaking by. Then when the time comes tomorrow, you, Seth and as many of your crew you'd like to bring can come for the festivities. You do that for me son and I will add a 0 to the payment. Can you do that favour for me? It would mean the world to me and I would be very appreciative. Lots of people to the party who need transport, and I'll introduce with my personal recommendation."

(assuming some answer beyond stammering)

"Now tell me about Asante and this kidnapping plot. You know, there was something about her that I never trusted. "

Back at the security desk, JC shows his arm and the guards there pleasantly ask him for some details as the scanner runs on the arm and they file it into the exceptionality section of the program.

"Jeremiah Christian Kane?" The one guard says, "The Jeremiah Kane? I heard stories of a Jeremiah Kane in the war. Oh by the buddha! Was this your shooting arm? Did the alliance cut it off as a punishment for killing some many? You thing they'd give you a better prosthetic instead of this - thing."

After some time, The Baron and the Captain return. The baron smiles charming and goes over to make sure that JC is cleared to come on board. he then says loudly enough for all to hear, "Thank you for your hard work and efforts bring my daughter to her wedding ceremony. I understand there was some peril and although I am sure you face it daily in your life, I want to know I consider it very heroic." He pulls out a number of cards out of his wallet and passes them to the crew on the bay - Angela, JC, Stephanie, Catie and Jon. "These are good for 100 credits in the gift shops or casinos on the "Rim's Dream". Play a few hands on me or buy yourself something nice. You all on my personal guest list so you may go most places on the ship and enjoy the amenities."

With that he turns to the brothers, "Rick and AJ Simon? You two are with me. Leave your gear here, you won't need it and you will be coming back here later I am sure."

The Brothers looked at each other and J nodded. the two of them left with the Baron.

Meanwhile, from her room, Grace watched the video feed. Just as the Baron left with the brothers she heard a tell-tale "thunk" from beneath the ship. Just as she did, Tess came up on the intercom.

"Did I hear what I thought I heard mei-mei?"

Grace cursed loudly. The liner just put a lock on their landing gear. Probably standard procedure now but it meant there was no turning back now.

Gamard and Wembley combine their attacks on the damaged iron man and manage to put it down on the ground where it stops moving. Just as they do, an invisible Dudley casts a curt light wounds on Wembley and by doing so - reappears.

Crow attacks with the black sword, hitting the metal man and causing it some damage. It attacks back with two strong blows on Crow, causing the Ranger considerable damage and pain.

With a fierce attack by the three of them, they manage to put the last ironman down. The metal men rise to attack no more. Now it is time to attend to the wounded as Crow, Mal and Garmard are quite wounded.

Crow - Critical wounds
Gamard - Serious wounds
Dudley - Light wounds

Subject: on the comics

I would love to bring back the comics but to do comics you need artists and that is where things break down. With Hobart, Britney had RL issues to deal with and had to stop drawing. Bromern has a large family and work that has to take priority so Mythbreakers stalled as well. It takes a lot of time to draw these works - I just do the writing which is easy. I am loathed to bring in another artist to do something when there is so much personality put into the comic.

So the long and short of it is we could do comics if we could get artists. But no one really wants to work for free.

So we would like to hear from you. What would you like to see from the Red Dragon Inn? What would you change if you could? What would bring the players to the site?

In the end, Olan and I want the Inn to be like an actual inn. A place to go, meet friends, play some games and talk about things related to gaming and the like. So please - talk to us.
