Subject: Over at last...or is it?

The exhilaration of slaying two foes in such style filled Maximus with confidence. He threw himself at the mantis leader with gusto and rage. The insect mage moved its staff to block the sweeping attack, but the blade cut through the staff and continued onwards to cut thorough the shell and body of the creature. If it could have looked surprised, it would have as it died a swift death.

Dapple attacked at the limbs of the Ankheg but found herself dodging more than hitting the creature. Then she was forced to move in towards the beast to avoid a blow and found an opening. The shell beneath was softer, more pliable and Dapple attacked with one, two and a third kick that seemed to cause great pain. With its master gone and the pain intense, the Ankheg dove back into its hole again to dig away from pest that hurt it so.

Char brings bow to aim and fires at the flying creatures. He has the second arrow in the air before the first hits target. The Thri-kreen is hit as it attempts to leap from mount to the blackness around Alloryn. Unable to use its dodging abilities, the two arrows pierce its carapace and it loses its balance, tumbling and falling until it crashes to the ground – a gooey icky mess.

Valentine casts his dispel magic on the globe. Even before he finishes his spell, he feels a power to it that is almost perfection. He watches as the darkness is ripped apart like cloth. Alloryn hangs there in the sky, green fire burning where her eyes should be and green energy glowing around her hand.

Inside, Alloryn had been fighting for what seemed like so long. This entity that called herself the green goddess was purging her from her own mind and Alloryn was starting to lose. It needed light to gain full power and the battle was distracting, but she was losing her will to fight.

Then suddenly, Alloryn felt a wave pass through her like a cooling breeze. The green goddess was torn out of her body and mind. She saw clearly again, and had control over her body

And she was 100 feet above the ground. Training took over as she began to plunge and she cast the fastest spell in her memory – featherfall.

Valentine saw the green fire extinguish and the young lady seemingly come to herself again. Alloryn feel for a few seconds but then she started to float to the earth, gently towards her brother’s waiting arms.

The last Mantis Warrior pulled up its mount and flew high, turning around to flee from the now mismatched battle.

Alloryn landed near Arien. The two looked at each other for a moment but then Alloryn collapsed, unconscious.

OOC: You may shoot at the departing Thri-kreen if you’d like. Bob – you had only a 5% chance of dispelling the presence from Alloryn and you got it. – That would be a mage’s Natural 20.

The Main Street 1:25-1:27 pm

“Where were they going in such a hurry?” Cora said to her husband, “No respect for people on the road. This is why I keep saying we need an Alliance presence here in town. To keep the peace and maintain some law and order.”

“Yes dear.” John replied

“…Tearing down the street like hooligans.” Cora continued.

“Yes dear. Was that gun fire dear?” John asked.

“Oh my lord!” Cora raised her hand to her mouth.

FOSOOSH…KA-BOOM

“What was that dear?” John asked while instinctively taking cover at the bottom of the stage.

“It was outside our bank! Hunt! Turn around! Take us back fast!”

Hunt responded to Cora’s command as swiftly as he could. It was all of his driving skill to keep the stage from falling over when that mule flew by. A three point turn in a hurry was a bit much for his nerves now.

“Ummm. What are we going to do when we get there Dear?”

Cora gave a martyr’s sigh, “Try to be a man for once John. You know … surprise me.”

“Hey!” Hunt called out, “There goes JW! He’ll get the job done! Now hold on while I back this up…oops.”

The Bank, 1:27 pm

Ethan shoved Brigit towards the doorway. She stumbled as she did and fell to the ground, tripping over the weapons of Sam that were shoved across the floor. She falls without grace and send the pieces scattering. If that wasn’t bad enough, her blouse chose that moment to lose their lacing, opening her voluptuousness to the men to see. The two brother holler wildly but Ethan Silence them with a glare, “Get that rifle and grenades, we gonna need them...” And then to Brigit, “Fix yourself Woman.”

As Fenris pulls up the hover mule and lays on the horn/brakes, a man take a single step out and pushes Miss Brigit out before him while holding her hair in one hand and a long nose python in the other, the muzzle on the back of the pretty woman’s head. He sees the Hover mule and yanks his hostage back to the doorway.

“Stop the Mule! Get out, and leave your guns inside, or she dies!” Ethan yells out at you from the doorway. He is completely covered by the doorway and Brigit except for part of his head and face behind her. It is enough for Asher and Wyatt though to recognize the family resemblance.

Inside the Bank 1:27 pm

On the floor of the bank, Sam forces his eyes to open. Unconsciousness grabbed him for a moment but he couldn’t let Miss Brigit be taken away by these men. If it was that last thing he did, he would….

Sam blinked his eyes in disbelief. His Avenger was there, not a foot away from his body, like a long lost puppy who found its way home. He looks across the room with unfocused eyes. Ethan was at the doorway with Brigit, back to Sam. The two brothers were scoping up his equipment and stuffing the grenades into pockets, not paying attention to what they figured was a dead man.

The Landing Pad, 1:26-1:27

As the explosion settles, people who were once milling around are no longer without propose. Those with horses take off at full gallop and many of the men and woman take off towards town at a full run.

“I don’t believe anyone has more than a bruise or a few scratches, but perhaps….Merciful Buddha!” Willow stopped, wide eyed as she saw a bright flash and the ground shook beneath her feet.

The doctor looked up at the explosion and quickly repacked his bag, “Gentlemen, you’ll excuse me but that looks a might more serious than your injuries.” He moved to his horse and stuffed the kit back into the saddle bag. As he began to ride away, he hesitated and offers a hand down to Willow, “I might need some help?” he asks, “if you don’t mind being with an old fellow like me.”

Topic: Looking for Interest in New Online RPG
Subject: Looking for Interest in New Online RPG

I would like to start a new game that is not D&D based. It will be quasi free-form, with an emphasis on role playing more than anything else. The game will be need 4 to 5 players, and it will run from a beginning to end, not run a continuous story. I’m hoping for a short adventure, but we all know that once you get posting, nothing is short in reality

My dilemma is this: I have a number of ideas that I like, and I can’t decide which is best. So here are four of my ideas, and I would like you to tell me which one you like, and if you would be interested in joining. I have summarized each one to give you a feel for the concept, but there is much more to each game.

Castle Rautenberg

It is February 1944 and deep within Nazi occupied Europe, a valuable double agent for the Allies has been discovered and captured. Codenamed Sparrow, this agent has worked for years deep within the Axis command and passing information to the Allies. Sparrow has been taken to Castle Rautenberg, an SS headquarters in Southern Bavaria. The location is very remote and intelligence has discovered that a special interrogator is being sent from Berlin to question Sparrow.

The Allies command can not allow the Germans to find out what Sparrow knows, so they have to move fast. A small group of soldiers are to be selected by Intrepid and the OSS. The team is to be assembled and airdropped deep into enemy territory tonight. There you will have to destroy a bridge to delay the SS officer. Make contact with a contact man within the nearby town and secure his assistance, and then you must move into Castle Rautenberg and rescue Sparrow. If it is not possible to rescue him, then ….

Please note – this is a WWII games based on Hollywood movies like Where Eagles Dare, Guns of Navarone, etc and games like Castle Wolfenstein. If you are a history buff, please understand I have no desire to keep to “official” history.

The Lost and Profound

It is 2790 AD.The world is 100 kilometers in diameter (a disc), flat and the sky is made of metal. The sun and Moon are hexagonal in shape. The stars all twinkle at regularly timed intervals. “Earth” is a myth. An ancient fable told to little children. It never really existed. The world has always been like this. (Like Atlantis to us now)

You live in a farming community governed by the Elders. The Elders answer to the creator who speaks to his people from temple’s bell tower. The Creator tells you who you will marry, what you will do as a vocation and all other important decisions in your life. Everything else is decided by the elders. Refusal to obey is a sin, punishable by stoning. Inside the temple, deep within its subfloor, is the creator’s machine – where all that dies is placed so the Creator can accept you back into his arms. The Creator’s device is operated by the Elders using a round metal control with six coloured buttons and a slot in it.

To this world, the players have been born. Basically an Amish based society in a metal bubble. The characters will be 4-5 people from this society. All of you are orphans, due to a fire where all your parents were killed when you were quite young. Raised by “Auntie Edna” a kindly blind woman who took you in after the fire, you lacked the stringent upbringing that most kids got causing you to become what the elders refer to as “troublemakers”. You ask questions, you demand answers and you are not very obedient. You don’t believe in the rules or the notion that everyone must be obedient to the elders. You don’t like your lives being structured the same way, day after day.

Your behaviour has reached the point where the elders are calling for stoning all of you. You flee to the forest to hide and while you are hiding, one of you trips over a round metal control with six coloured buttons and a slot in it. You manage to activate it somehow and the ground opens up at your feet. All of you fall through the iris opening into a metal tunnel with blue lights, and as you do, the door closes above you….

Five Seconds to Save the World

Imagine a world, much like our own, but there are individuals with powers hidden amongst our midst. They hide for government operatives, corporate agents and criminal bosses who would exploit their powers for their own purposes.

They are called Espers.

With the power of the mind unchained, Espers have untapped powers. They are categorized as follows:

Energy Manipulators (Spark) – These Espers control a single element force at their command. Some can hurl fire, others use electricity, air, water and some even use pure force itself.

Reality Controllers (Bender) – People who can slip themselves a few seconds into the future – appearing to move super fast. A few can create illusions that seem so real that no one knows what is real. Some can walk through walls. Others can control plants or animals. A few have been said to create undead servants or animate inanimate objects.

Mind Settlers (Psyche) – The standard one expects from an Esper, and about 70 percent of all Espers are in this category. Reading minds, controlling thoughts, forced domination, predicting the future and telekinesis are all the powers of the psyches.

Computer Melders (Surfer) – Those people who can leave their bodies behind and channel themselves through the world of computers. Some can harness the power of computers, others can surf the net for hidden data and a few can use their brains a storage for vast amounts of data.

You are a group of of 4 to 5 Espers living in hiding from those who would seek to exploit you. You were brought together and your secrecy maintained by Gabreille – a dead woman. Gabrielle was a Surfer who could merge her mind with computers. Her father and herself were killed a number of years ago by assassins when Gabrielle refused to join a mega-corporation to serve as an industrial spy. Before she died, she transferred her conscious into the computer.

Now, she surfs the computers of the world finding out what the agencies and corporations are doing so she can fight them. She can only do so much without a body so you are her “seconds”. In exchange for a safe haven, security and protection, you go on missions to help rescue other Espers targeted for “hire”. Sometimes you are sent to eliminate those Espers that are using their powers for evil actions. Either way, it’s a living and you get to use your powers as you see fit.

Subway

The world ended in six seconds. The people of the past build great machines, beautiful artwork, wondrous medicines and they threw it all away in a flash of nuclear fire. No one has seen the sun in their lifetime, only grey clouds that light poorly filters through. It is always cold now.

You are part of a tribe struggling for survival in a post-apocalyptic world. Your tribe has a compound built from the wreckage of the past. Survival is hard with all the monsters and creatures that hunt anything that moves, but you manage as best you can. Then there are other tribes wanting to take what you have for themselves. If that wasn’t enough there was the mutations developing in every child born. Some mutations were of benefit, but many were – vile.

Some devices from the past still work, if you can find Pcells for them, but they are few and far between. What Pcells you have are used for the security fence and the water purification. You have a solar powered recharge unit for Pcells, but there isn’t enough solar energy getting though the clouds to recharge a single Pcell in less than a month time. There is a legend of a big Pcell, one that would power a huge city back in the civilized days, but few believe it.

Two days ago, a regular patrol was doing a long range sweep from the compound – making sure no one was sneaking around, when one of the men fell into a hole in the ground. When they went in to rescue him, they discovered a set of ancient stairs leading downwards. They followed then down as far as they could go but turned back when they found a metal gateway blocking their way and a sign above in the old language “SUBWAY”. Far in the distance, they could see a glow, like from lights similar to the ones used on the security fence.

The elders decide to organize a team for 4 to 5 members to investigate the glow and this “subway”. Players may choose to be pure blood or they may have mutations that will aid them or hinder them in the mission. Where there is light, there is Pcells….

Please note - this is not in recruitment because I want to see the interest level first. So mods, please do not move this thread for now.

3) Take off their clothes

So we are 2 for three so far. But who to cast for Arien? Christian Bale? Tom Cruise? Matthew Mcconaughey as Char?

You are so close than you can see the free parking spot outside of the bank that some nice fellow must have kept safe for you.

I will do a small post today to let you know what you see as you pull up so you can make decisions on actions.(I was rushing last night to post your actions and didn't cover everything) Basically, you will see Ethan and the two brothers, attempting to leave the bank with Brigit as a hostage. There is no sign of Sam Dash.

In my post I update Willow and the Doc, the Blakes and the Stage mule, JW riding and your arrival at the bank - unless Bromern tells me otherwise, I will assume you are gonna pull up and not pass by the bank.

Eol - Sam will be able to revive himself next round. You won't feel up to a prize fight, but you can move and possibly shoot something (ain't promising anything on accuracy)

I know you are all anxious for the outcome. I will post to Willow once she has time to post.

Time 1:26 pm

Outside The Bank

Grant Mustard’s life story was a long list of men he had killed, women he had ravaged and machines he had “fixed up”. In Grant’s mind, the men all were deserving of death, the woman all asked for it and the machines, well the machines just needed a little love to be the best they could be.

So it meant little to the big man to sight the driver in the upcoming mule and fire off a few rounds. The Chwen deserved it for messing with his business.

Down the Main Street

As Wolf took the wheel from Asher, there was a brief wobble as he over-steered and then corrected quickly. The slight movement saved his life as a bullet hole was torn into the head rest where Fenris’ head was a second ago. The pain lanced through the mechanics left arm as he caught a bullet in the meaty part of the bicep, and another round burned passed his left shoulder blade. Wolf didn’t let the pain or injuries distract him from the task at hand, but grit his teeth and held the course for the crew.

Asher swore and opened up. The assault rifle became like a part of his arm, he didn’t truly aim as much as he felt where to shoot. With the gun set to full auto, he fired of a quick salvo that forced the shooter to duck below the dash. Bullets tore through the front plate of the mule as if the metal was paper, and in the back of Asher’s mind dawned the fact that the plating was stripped off this mule.

Grant threw himself down from the hail of gunfire and heard every “plunk” of lead tearing through his baby. “Stop shooting at my Girl!” He screamed and grabbed the single shot grenade launcher from the passenger seat. They would burn for this, he fumed in rage, and they would burn in hell. He flipped the safety with his thumb and leaped up, pointed at fired.

FOSOOSH…KA-BOOM

The getaway mule outside of the bank didn’t so much explode as take flight. The hydrogen fuel cell that was punctured several times by Asher’s gunfire was leaking profusely. The friction of the bullets didn’t set off the gas, but the grenade launcher did.
The hover mule shot like a rocket into the air, and then exploded into a fireball about a hundred feet above the bank. Pieces of mule were scattered in all direction, but luckily none so big as to do anything beyond bounce off the shingles of the nearby building.

Inside the Bank

Ethan dives for cover behind the big chairs as Sam opened up with both weapons. The Derringer missed completely but the colt drew blood from the big man as he rolled behind the chair.

The two men working on the safe had drawn guns as opened up on Sam as he moved to grab the body of Jones to use as a shield. The brothers open fire, one using two pistols and the other a sawed off shotgun. But the bullets are stopped by the teller’s wall, even the glass spiderwebs but stops the slugs. One of the brothers stops and runs to the doorway, the other runs forward to climb over the reinforced wall.

The Banker bought bullet proofing! Sam realizes his luck and quickly draws the other colt from his shield’s holster.

Ethan opens with the Python and the wallop from the round sends San back a step and almost causes him to drop his shield. Taking three rounds into the shield is making the protection weaker and weaker.

Seizing the opportunity, Ethan grabs Brigit by the hair and hauls her up in front of him. “Hey, You Cheong Bao Ho Tze Chwen! Drop them or she’s next!” He yells.

FOSOOSH…KA-BOOM

The windows all shatter into millions of pieces and fly inwards. The doorway is blow clear off its hinges and across the room. The bandit clearing the wall has to duck and leap out of the way to prevent being clobbered by the door. The sheer force is too much for Sam, being so close to the window and he is knocked to the ground and does not get up. The wind blows dirt and dust into the room blinding everyone for a few seconds.

Recovering quickly, Ethan runs full tilt to the open doorway with the two brothers closely behind, pulling Brigit by the hair along as a shield between him and Sam.

OOC: Wolf has taken 4 stun and 7 wounds. (Tann, which is a serious wound - 50% of life). Sam takes an additional 3 points of stun damage and is now unconscious.

The band members, whose faces were lower than a snakes belly before, brighten at the prospect of Willow examining them. They practically clamoured over each other to describe their injuries.

While they did so, the people at the landing pad seemed to break into groups. Willow quickly could see the groupings and how the factions of the town were held together by JW, but when he was gone, they divided up again into Townies, Miners, Owners/Merchants, and the Tong.

A man came over towards Willow on his horse, stopping a short distance away and sliding slowly out of the saddle. He was a elderly man, at least 70 years, dressed is a fine suit of black and tweed that was probably about 30 years old and looking a bit worn in places. He had gray hair, when kept and a clean shaven face (picture Burt Lancaster in “A Field of Dreams”).

Her trained eye took in the man as he reached into his saddlebags and pulled out a old style doctor’s bag – very beaten and fixed in places with black electrical tape. He had a dignity to him as he walked towards her, his stride told her that he was a proud man, probably a stern one when needed. There was a sense of sadness to him, deep in the eyes that spoke to Willow’s empathic nature – a pain still felt in the heart from long ago.

“Good Afternoon Ma’am.” He stopped and gave Willow a respectful bow that touched her heart, “Did I hear you say you were a medic? I am Doc McQuire, and if it is not too bold of me to say, you are the prettiest medic I have seen in many a years. Perhaps we can look at these fine gentlemen together.” It was a statement, not a question, as if there would be no arguing his suggestion.
