Topic: Continuing Where We Last Left Off
Subject: You can dance, you can sing like a .....

“By the sea and stars,” the half-elf managed a revolted whisper after a moment, “What in all the Hells of all the religions has happened here?”

"Evil was here... is here."

"Gods aid us. What in the name o' the Wyrmslayer 'appened in 'ere?"

"What evil hides here?" he demanded aloud, weapons at the ready. "Show yourself!"

Nothing came forth the answer the challenge of the knight. The room seemed eerily quiet after the laughter. Adrian began the casting of a spell while Kilgim murmured a prayer to his god.

Flynn goes close to the bodies and sinks to a crouch by a severed head. Looking over the body parts, he notices something immediately – the parts are all severed clean and straight, almost perfectly straight cuts and all in the exact same spots – through the joints of the shoulder, elbow and wrist, hip, knee ankle and the neck.

Adrian’s spell is a quick one, revealing to him the magic within the room. At first it seems to be all around them, throughout the room like a fog or a mist. But then the vision clarifies and he sees so many patterns and designs within in the magic. It is so complex, yet complicated and oh so beautiful. Adrian couldn’t help himself but to stop and stare at the beauty of the threads of light moving around them and towards them.

Suddenly, the doors you entered slam shut behind you! The violence of the closure shakes the foundation of the building. All of you turn as the loud slam except Adrian, who is still staring upwards with a goofy expression on his face.

Then Maximus feels his sword starting to move out of his hand. He grips tightly as his vorpal sword lifts high into air, taking his feet off the ground by inches. The feminine voice is heard again, “I want the pretty!” Maximus pulls hard and comes down to the ground, the sword suddenly free in his hand again. Then again, something seems to grab the sword and pull from above, but this time Maximus is ready and yanks it back with all his strength. The sword comes free again and the voice speaks from beyond, “Naughty boy!”

Adrien, Char and Dapple look on helplessly, not knowing what to do but feeling like they should be ready for an attack. Sunset burrows deep into Dapples cloak and hisses loudly.

Kilgim finished his prayer and sees a low level emanation of evil throughout the room.At first it appears as a mist but then it seems so complex and filled with patterns. The beauty of the design however, is lost on the pragmatic dwarf and he feels no compulsion to stare at it. The evil concentrates around Maximus’ sword as it struggles to get away. It seems to have formed around the red mage but …

Years of training in the red corps forced a mental discipline into Valentine. Even as he felt himself compelled by the weaving pattern, he started using concentration tools he’d been taught to push away the mesmer and see what was true. Physically, he shakes his head and forces himself to dismiss the spell so he can see it no more. But he knew now, as did Kilgim, that the room was full of magical threads, so thin and light that they were passing through them without knowing.

Suddenly, the dead bodies of the priests begin to move. Arms and legs pull to the torso, and arms and hands reconnect together into a macabre resemblance of life as the heads roll and jump back on to the waiting neck. Flynn moves himself back a few steps as the priests reform, weapons in hands and moving awkwardly towards you – like grotesque puppets on strings.

"What sorcery is this? Tuck?" Will cries out as he draws his sword from its sheath. For in all of England, no man could beat Robin as a bowman, Tuck as a quarterstaff wielder and Will Scarlett as a swordsman.

The Merry man leaps forward and stikes a mighty blow to the shoulder of the corpse woman attacking his friend. His balde splits bone and fleash with ease but the creature only is taken aback - and then moves on to attack again. The young man with a limp moves to flank him from behind.

"I will be no man's dinner, be he dead or alive!" cries Will and he swings a backhand blow at the monster that cuts clear through his neak and separates head from body. The dead man falls, staying down and remaining still as a good body should.

"Tuck! The head! they can not survive death without it!" Armed with this knowledge, Will fends off the newly arrive woman attacker with blade in hand and an eye for throat.

If you have a point to raise about a post of mine, it would be best put into a PM, not the public forum.

But since we are here -

What you write in your post is what you hope happens, not what necessarily happens. You may have intended for the sheriff not to hear you but maybe he made his hearing check, or maybe he reads lips, or maybe he didn't hear you but guessed based on your body language, or maybe he didn't hear you at all and is basing his comments on Sam's, Blake's and/or Wyatt's reaction. It may be a bluff and not about you at all. I'm not going to say because in this situation, you do not know. I play my NPC's as near as I can to real, so they make mistake (buying ham hocks) and sometimes they are damn lucky (natural 20!) but just like real life, you may intend one thing but another thing happens.

In the future, if you'd like to question the validity of my posts, I'd appreciate the courtesy of making it a PM.

Subject: Cognitive dissonance anyone?

OOC – I left Sam out of this as I need to know where he is going. I will PM with Robert on this

Newhouse, Beylix, Outside Jailhouse, 12:45 pm, Day Three

“This ain’t right Sam, I don’t like it one bit. We need to disarm Pearson and find out wtf is going on before we let him step foot of the ship”

“Tze sah ju yi (suicidal idea), puhn yoh, no matter how much I might be inclined ta agree... even if we did manage ta not get shot down, there’s too many innocent folk around... can’t have none o’ them gettin’ tangled up in our mi tian gohn, get me?”

“I don’t care, this ain’t right”

“Yo niou-se, you might want to rethink your travel plans, space flight these days is so very risky.”

“If we’s bein’ forced ta ferry this Pearson piece o’ sh** back ta the boat, Cap, I reckon I’ll walk my own self if that’s ku by you. If I don’t, I’m like ta bao xin jiu huo, get me?”

"Let's git on back to the ship, Gentlemen."

“Well now!” the sheriff drawled, “I’m hearing some threatening language to a law man here. That isn’t very civil considering I released your friend here as payment for his safe passage. Before you get any ideas in your little heads about revenge and retribution let me tell you, if I don’t get a wave from Luke every 24 hours telling me he’s being treated goodly, I’d have to assume the worst. Put out an arrest warrant to the cortex for y’all, and make sure I told all my friends in the verse that you people have a tendency to kill clients. Even if you avoid the law, how much work you gonna get with that reputation?”

“Wait just a minute!” John Blake glares at the sheriff, “Captain Wyatt is a good decent man, unlike you sir. He would never stoop to your level.”

“My level!” Sheriff growls indignant, “I do have two guns here. So you better watch your mouth.”

Luke steps forward, “Whoa! Listen. I’m a lawman. I follow the law of the land. You have to talk tough when you are in my shoes but I am deeply sorry for the death of your friend. He was running, he didn’t stop and as you heard the sheriff, I did what he felt was right. Now if you have other ways and laws in Frisco, I’ll follow them to the letter I assure you. I wish that Mr. Sloat here had just stopped running when I told him to, especially for nothing but ballots.”

“He’s right” Sherman says to John, ‘Chad should have stopped. He’s been acting twitchy since we left. And we can plainly see that the sheriff here is heavy handed.”

“Excuse ME! Keep the commentary to yourself!”

“We came all this way for a Sheriff John,” Fiddler said, “and spent a lot of platinum. I think Chad did himself in by acting strange and running. Let’s go over the rules and laws with Mr. Pearson on the way back and make sure he knows what we expect.”

Mr. Blake is obviously not thrilled by his companions’ mercantile attitude but he does agree with them, “Right. Let’s take Chad home then. Mr. Pearson. First order of business, you don’t shoot anyone unless they are holding a gun or knife on you.”

“Yes Sir.” Pearson agrees, “Captain Wyatt, if you want me to hand over my irons now and you hold them for the length of the journey, I accept that your word is law on your ship.”

Newhouse, Beylix, Behind Emmett’s Bar – heading to Spaceport, 12:45, Day Three

Tell me, how did such a sorry bit of tin become sheriff here, anyway? Nobody else showed up for the interview?”

“Well, you ain’t far from the truth there. See, Newhouse was founded by a man named JW McClarrin. Now JW started the smelting after the war and it brought a lot of people jobs when they needed them. But he struck it big in some mine and left Newhouse just as it started to get big. So the merchants decided they had to have a council and the council decided that they needed a sheriff. Up to that point, Ken Weaver did the law and order thing and people were happy with him. Ken is polite, always respectful but knows when things have to be done, even if he don’t like doing them. But the council brought Arness in, he was a friend of someone, on the basis that Ken didn’t read or write too well and had a hearing problem. Funny – no one really noticed it interfering before. Anyway soon after the council took to taking three month vacations and Arness took to keeping their case log clean.”

Benny directs Willow to a side alley between the buildings, “So Arness sets up the whole protection scam, which wasn’t bad at first because he wasn’t greedy. But then the Tong came into Newhouse and things got ugly –fast. So Arness gets this deputy Luke Pearson to come help him. Except Luke is real fast at killing people which cleans the case log clean but isn’t what people expected. Oh there’s always a reason or some sort of just cause but he churned most the Tong into a grave in a fortnight. Tough guy too – once the Tong caught him with 6 guys using machetes and Luke was outta ammo. In the end, Luke barely had a scratch and Mortie had six more caskets on order.

“Well, the whole situation unhinged Arness. He started getting demanding about more protection money, and forcing every women he could to pay him on their backside. He rides Darla more often than … well a lot. All the while Luke has everyone running scared. Ken does what he can but he’s outmatched so he plays dumb for survival. Think I’ll use the money you give me to get off this rock, maybe find work elsewhere.”

Besides people who have left the game, how many have I killed? I count 1, and Jal was a tragic character who could only end up dying dramatically.

Really - I get tired of being called a player killer when I seriously do all that I can to avoid killing them.
