I play healing by percentages. A cure light heals 25%, serious 50%, critical 75% and Heal 100%.

May I recommend highly that everyone take at least one potion of extra healing in their inventory.

If you don't believe, feel free to speak to Olan, Bromern, Admiral, Eol or anyone else in my campaigns.

You are expending life force to produce magic - it ain't cheap. Yes, one day per hp lost. Bets not to burn your hp unless you know it is the final battle.

Topic: Pharaoh Q&A
Subject: for the mages

Mana

In my magic system you have mana points instead of memorizing spells. This is for mages only, not clerics. To cast a first level spell costs 1 mana point, a second level cost 2, etc etc. Your mana points are derived by using the 2e spell chart and converting the spells you would have got as a X lvl mage into mana points (so 4 1st 2 2nd and 1 3rd would be 4x1+2x2+1x3=11). Then you give yourself a bonus of one mana point for every intelligence point you have over 15. So with an 18 INT would be +3 (the above example goes to 14 mana).

I have a different system for calculating points but this will do for this game.

You can cast any spell that is in your book as often as you like as long as you have mana,. So if you want to fire off 3 fireballs in 3 rounds, you can – but you are now down 9 mana. You want to fry the skeleton with 14 magic missiles – you are down 14 mana.

Once your mana is gone, you should stop casting spells. However you can still, except you will start to eat you own hit points at a 1hp to 1mp rate. Hit points lost this way cannot be healed by magical means and you must rest a day for every point lost. Furthermore, if you go below 0 hp but using spells, you risk Wizard’s Twilight, a state of being where you mind is basically burnt out and you are like a zombie to anyone commands.

Mana is naturally recovered by sleep. Using this system, mages do not lose all their spells if they go unconscious.

For # of spells per level - a 6th level mage would have 9 firsts, 7 second and 5 thirds in his book.

As can be seen on the first post, we now have a full house. However I have too many mages (request) right now and not enough fighters. So if someone could re-consider, the life expectancy might increase significantly.

Topic: Pharaoh Q&A
Subject: Pharaoh Q&A

Deep in the Desert…..

This is the Q&A thread for the First Annual Alacrity’s Invitational D&D game – Pharaoh. Those of you who have received an invitation and accepted can start character creation here.

Why Invitational? Well, there are some people who I have always wanted to game with and haven’t yet, there are some who I have read while lurking who I admire their style and there are others that have tried to get into games but have missed the cutoff. Either way, I am attempting to address all these people in a single bound.

Accepted invitees so far are:
YeOlde - Cleric(Char received)
Jozan1 – Fighter (Char received)
Duncan74 - Mage (Char received)
Wyrmsting - Thief(Char received)
Utan The Orange - Female Half-elf fighter (Char received)
Skari-Dono - OUT

Grugg- not until Mid January so he will be “rescued” along the way

Characters should have ability scores totaling 90, with only one 18 allowed. Your hit points should be max, not rolled – because I give my monsters all full hit points. Classes are core rules or kits, not player options. I will entertain any idea that has a good story to it. If you want to play a mage, let me know as I use a mana based system that I, one day, will write up and post here because I am getting tired of writing it out over and over. In short you get mana points, you don’t memorize spells, you cast what you want from your spell list but it burns up mana. Clerics are basically the same as the book but I don’t fuss over spheres or domains or whatever they called it.

Magic items, everyone starts with 6 points, with each point representing a +1 or a single ability. You may pick magic and present it to me and I will yay or nay it. A max of 3 points in a single item allowed. No displacement allowed – I hate displacement and no monster will use it either.

Equipment – I’m not that fussy as you are experienced adventurers. Submit what you want and I will let you know if anything shouldn’t be there.

You start with 50,001 xp. If you want to do split class or multi-class, you are still working with 50,001. That means the average player will be 6th (druid or Rogue - 7th) level.

At the start of the game you are deep in the desert. How did you get here? This is a very brief outline - details will follow:

Your party was dealing with some evil dude in a dungeon somewhere and had defeated him, but in his dying breath he managed to open a portal beneath you and sucked you into it. When you landed, you were in the desert, with no clue where you were. You wandered for days until a group of soldiers riding Pegasi found you and brought you to the Oasis of the White Palm. This paradise in the desert was rules by Sultan Zoltan, who found you to be very interesting. You were taken in as honoured guests and have been living a life of luxury for some time. But the Sultan’s advisor –Visier Pfizer, grew to hate you all. He saw you as an evil influence and sought to banish you from the lands.

At the beginning of this game; you awake in the hot sunlight. You are terribly hungover, or at least you feel hung over. You can not remember anything that has happened in the last 24 hours. There are guards all around you, and they do not look friendly. All you equipment is in a pile on the other side of the guards. Some how, you suspect that the party is over…..

Any other questions – let me know here. I have one character submitted for a thief already. I would like a balanced party but I don’t like to force people to play characters they do not like.

I have two spots left (I want 6 players going in) and I am open to suggestions.

Subject: Andrew in the bar, Dason in the alley

Beylix, Newhouse, Emmett’s Bar, 11:10 am

Andrew entered Emmett’s Bar and looked around. It seemed much larger on the inside than it did on the outside, but that could be because there were so few people in here. There were twenty tables set up in the tavern but only three were occupied. One table had three men playing cards; they look up as the Professor enters but don’t pay him much mind. By their work overalls, dirty complexions and the odd burn scar, Andrew would guess they work in the smelting plant, either just off shift or about to go on. A second table was occupied by a Chinese man, asleep across the back booth. The third has a woman no longer in her prime, but still pretty in her own right. She is dressed up all frilly and is painting her toes when Andrew enters. She is surprised by your appearance but she rights herself and slips her still wet toes into her shoe and steps behind the bar to greet her customer. “Hi y’all. Welcome to Emmett’s Wha’ca ya like?” she asks as she comes up to you. Her frilly dress is peach coloured, clasp held for easy removal and exposes a healthy and enticed amount of cleavage. You doubt she’s the owner.

(assuming you order a drink, maybe small talk)

The bar is decorated in Mahogany board which gives it a dark look even in the mid-day. The place is clean and well cared for, the smell of wood oil and pine can be faintly detected in the air. The floor is carpeted in a burgundy wall to wall rung that has lain here so long than you can tell what seats are more popular by the wear patterns. Near the back is a stairs going upwards which seems to be the most beaten path here.

OOC: If you wish to approach the men playing cards, they will be polite in their greeting but not overtly friendly. Now if you ask to play and show some money for the pot, their attitudes will brighten quickly.

Beylix, Newhouse, Back alley, 11:20 am

Dason Wang regained consciousness. He would have preferred not to, because there was an ugly dwarf wearing hobnailed boots pounding on a drum inside of his head. His jaw hurt, his shoulders hurt, his chest hurt and well, he wasn’t sure there wasn’t anywhere he didn’t hurt.

Easy mark my gorram ass. He thought vaguely remembering that the man he followed into this alley had beaten him up real good. Joo Bah Jeh! I’m sticking to women and children from now on.!

It took a number of tries for Dason to get himself into a sitting position. Once there, he tried to stand but when he did, the dwarf banged harder on the drum and started playing a tuba. He settled for crawling his way to the far side of the alley where there were some boxes and trash he could hide among. Lay low there for awhile until he felt better. After what felt like an eternity, Dason reached the boxes and moved them aside to set up a place to hide. That was when he found the body.

There was a dead man in Dason’s perfectly good hiding spot. Looked like a worker who was on the wrong end of a knife to the belly. Being the man was dead, Dason did the only logical thing he could think of – he checked the pockets for money. Nothing though, whoever killed this .Ri shao gon shi bing already cleaned him out. But dead guy had nice boots though, and Dason thought he could hock those. After some effect he removed the boots and checked the insides – and several folded bills fell out. Jackpot! Thank you Buddha’s little pony Dason tucked the money in his pants pocket without counting it and grabbed the boots. The effort and smell overwhelmed him and he threw up on the dead man; and passed out on the ground beside him.

Description: A handsome middle aged well dressed man whose face is marred by a thin scar running from his left eyebrow down his cheek to the corner of his mouth. His manner of clothes appear a touch above most; tailored dress pants, a long sleeve dress shirt, a matching vest and a bolo style tie with silver clasp complete the ensemble. He looks much the proper gentlemen on a lot of core worlds except for the low riding quick draw holster on his right side and the cross draw holster on his left hip. He gives an overall appearance of being a sophisticated and well educated gentlemen.

_______________________

History-

Thanks to his rich parentage, Andrew attended Osiris University where he obtained a Doctorate in Technical Engineering. After graduation, he taught at Osiris University and even earned tenure. He made many friends with connections in the Alliance where he learned that the Alliance was protecting the core planets and abandoning the border and rim worlds and hiding the truth from general populace.

He tried to get others behind a cause to stop the Alliance abuse of what he saw as needy people in the border planets. Instead of help he found threats from the Alliance against his job and even his life.

Abandoning school he left for the outer worlds much to dismay of rich family back on Bellerophon. Having always had a natural gift for technical things and being rich he had access to some very sophisticated electronic gears. He took up the gun to survive, and due to fast reflexes became a very deadly gunfighter. Due to his technical expertise, education and eloquent way of speaking, he picked up the nickname ‘The Professor’.

He shunned his former life and his family, and when his parent passed away his younger brother, Thomas, took over the family estate and warned his brother never to return.

He earned his facial scar in a fight with a man who attacked him with a knife; killing the man in self defense he earned a vendetta by the man’s family. Fortunately the man’s family doesn’t have the money to hire someone to kill him, but relatives of the man are out to get him, if they can find him.

Through the years he has given up trying to help everyone in the border worlds, now he just tries to survive and help those he comes across. He sided with the Independence and fought for a time and served as a tech specialist until he was wounded, captured and spent a year in an Alliance prison. He was released after the war ended and took whatever odd jobs he could to make a living since he was cut off from his family inheritance and didn’t really want it anyway.

His last ship, a Dragonfly class named Prospect, was his home for over a year until unfortunately the Captain was jailed and the ship confiscated by the Alliance on smuggling charges and the crew had to break off to find other gainful employ.

Andrew has become the sheriff of Frisco on the planet Regina where he keeps law and order in the town and is well appreciated.

Just a note - you still have some rum and chocolate that you can sell. There is money in town between the banker, the Lawrence and JW so you might be able to fetch yourself a good deal.

Timing - The meeting for Willow is at dawn (6:30 am). The town hall is at 9:00 am. Unless Willow does something terribly wrong or gets ... busy, I seriously doubt she will be at the temple for longer than 2 hours. The temple is right next to the Bank so she won't have far to go either.

Although this may not need to be said, I just wanted to bring up the point that in this game, there is a lot of things happening. Not everything is key to the plot, or even the subplots. Sometimes I am introducing characters or situations that will be important in the next campaign. Sometimes I'm breathing life into an NPC who's gonna die in the next scene, just because I want to be a writer and make you feel something - anything. Sometimes, I'm just playing with weird and wonderful.

So if you are trying hard to put all the pieces together and make sense of it all - you might want to relax and enjoy the ride. I play a pretty intrinsic Verse and sometimes, you aren't playing with the rooks, you playing with the pawns.
