No snow. It is July 14th 1943 and although cool in the mountains with rain falling not too long ago, there is no snow.

I thought it was a good poem. I like that you didn't end the fight but had it continue onwards. I found myself thinking of a song called "Losing It" by Rush as your lyrics reminded of the rhythm of the song.

“What were they doing? Why did you have to kill them?”

Luke's voice was calm but there was an edge to his voice, "Why? Why? They're Tong. You don't need a reason beyond that. Sure you can wait for your due process and proper authority until the cows come home, but that ain't gonna help none. These fellas are a disease, and me - I'm the cure." The sheriff holsters his pistol and looked across the roadway at Asher as if he was some kind of bug. "So who's side you on there Ash? Your captain seems a soft type - but what about you?"

Before Ash can answer there is the sound of people coming down the street. A group of town folk lead by John Blake and JW McClarrin. They are very distressed and JW is calling out "Mr. Pearson! What have you done?"

In a moment seemingly frozen in time, Ash sees the lawman hands reach for his guns. He is gonna shoot down these men as they call him out.

The Nazi attempted to bring his Schmeisser up to bear but Romo had his .45 out and fired two shots. The first only grazed the ear as the guard threw himself back, but the second round hit him hard in the shoulder and the impact forced him backward. He opens up with a burst of bullets that put holes on the car and one piece of lead into the Sarge. A wound to the side that knocks the big man to his knees. It could have been worse had it wasn't for Brutal at the moment leaping from the car to level the shotgun at the guard and fire both barrels into him. The guard stops moving completely as Brutal casual disards the shotgun (too long to reload) and brings up his Thompson.

McGuiness is standing and brings his sniper scope to his eye. Mentally he adjust for distance and fires the first shot, The shot blossoms in his back as McGuiness fires again for good measure. The guard is running no more.

The Nazi on the left moves to the cover of the building and fires at the car. His shot shatters a headlight. The Doc returns fire but only forces him to move further back. The other Nazi drops to the ground and also fires a shot. The radiator of the car takes one for the team and sprays out steam.

Luke attempts to fire with the luger but his shots are far wide.

Brutal takes off fast to the left, using the cover of the building against the guards as he moves to get around the house and attack from the other side. "Cover Me!" he calls out.

OOC: Two Guards are down. Two are left. One is on the ground prone to your right, the other is beside the gatehouse, using it as cover.

Romo is injured, taking a bullet to the lower side. He is bleeding but can still function (taken 6 wounds out of 14).

I am NPCing Brutal and he is taking the direct route which I thought was in character. Vanadia will post later but assume she is not attacking.

This is the way it is ....

My thoughts on the wave vs radio at the time and today is based on radio wave as I understand them and concept on how "waves" could work in Serenity.

Waves are long range messages through space that use tachyon pulse to make person to person possible over vast ranges of space. They need a pulse beacon and a powerful transmitter. Ash (in my mind) was going up spaceport and using the transmitter there.

Brigit waved you from her classroom, which mean she has some high tech (newtech) stuff.

Ash has a radio. Roc and Ash can communicate via radio if you are in atmo.

The shuttle has a stronger radio so you could try that when you were a few hours away from the planet.

NOW - if someone believes this is wrong and has a different opinion then sound off please. Communication is a very grey area in the TV series vs the Movie so I am open to different theories.

To send a wave you need a powerful transmitter and the handheld are not enough. You can contact Ash with radio from atmo but it would be very hard to scramble the signal.

Just a reminder that Brigit said she would meet you at the mine, not in town. She knows you are coming and she knows that is where you will want to go.

Today is GM's day! (go ahead - google it. I'm not making it up), a day to think about, remember and thank the GM/DM in your life. Without the GM there would be no game to play.

So a special Shout Out to Olan, the webmaster Game Master of this site to wish him a special GM's day.

Regina, Frisco, Day Seven, 10:30 pm Planet Time

It did not take long for Asher to find the source of the gunfire. The main street was illuminated by the light from the saloons and shops along the way. The street was clear of people except Luke Pearson, standing like all was well as he loaded his pistol. Around him on the ground were three men, all Asian, and all dresses in the black and red outfits that identified them as members of the Tong. As Ash approached, Pearson whirled around quickly, pointing the newly loaded gun his way. The man was fast – real fast, but he lowered his weapon just as quick as he drew.

“You scared the gorram piss outta me!’ Pearson laughed, “You shouldn’t be hulking around at dark, you’ll get yourself killed.” He gestured to the men on the ground, “Seems like we have some criminal element in these parts. I found these low-life scum in Newhouse too. Bet there is a whole mess of them around too. “

(Assuming Asher starts to reply)

His eyes never look away from Ash as the young man tries to speak but Pearson’s left hand comes up quickly as he fires two quick shots down the alleyway without looking. The smoke from the gun clings to the night air forming an unholy halo around Pearson. The kid hears the sound of a body hitting the ground down the alleyway.

“I’m sorry. You were saying something?’ Luke asked, as if inquiring about the weather.

Rocinante, Day Eight 3:30 pm Ship Time

It had taken some time for Sam to feel sufficiently sure that his wave would not be traced or bounced. Willow had noticed long ago that Sam was a bit twitchy about such things and it was best to let him reach his comfort level. After a good while and some restrained cussing, Sam had patched her through to the Lullabelle Mine and the image on the screen was of Kora and Sam, side by side. There was a tension missing from Kora that Willow immediately noticed, and happiness in her eyes.

At first the conversation is light. Willow speaks of the events that have occurred after they left the mine and the who-what-where’s of the last few days. To Willow, Kora was still part of the crew and she needed Sam Hawkes’ trust so she didn’t hold much back.

“You know,” Sam pondered, “This Brigit sounds a lot like the woman that was clinging on Colonel Maddoc before the Lucius took off. Only then she was called Elizabeth. The crates we loaded were very heavy but I never looked inside them. I have heard all sorts of rumours of platinum bars but Maddoc wasn’t the type to take the money and run. Either way, we loaded the crates into the main vault of the ship.”

“How much could it have been?” Kora asked.

Sam shrugged, “30,000 bars would be a conservative guess. At 100 each that would be a lot of reasons to find it. You know … it sorta makes sense. JW won the Hornsilver mine in a card game before the war and no one thought there was anything left – tapped out. If the Newberry crashed, it could have opened and shifted the ground, possibly opening up a new vein. But the vault was double titanium reinforced chamber within the ship, so it could have survived the crash and been buried. I hate to say this but this Brigit might be telling you the truth.”

(assuming you ask about them meeting up with you)

“Sorry Willow but no can do.” Kora shakes he head, “We don’t have a ship worthy of travel. The shuttle we got won’t move fast enough or far enough. We had to let the Fulton’s leave – they were more problem than they were worth and just too many mouths to feed.”

Andrew Bowman opened up his console and attached the key to the adapter. He started slow, simple queries and probe to determine what was this key was for and why. The level of protection on it wasn’t great – after all, it was a door key for a mid-level security vault. It would, when attached to the vault console, prompt for a code and wait for its entry before releasing the door.

Then Andrew, feeling more confident, got into the source code within. There were names within that immediate showed him he was on the right track. The programmer had added commentary, confirming it was for the Lucius Newberry cargo vault. But the code was not there, not within the key as the sequence was an algorithm depending on the keypad attached. All he could tell was that it would be a four digit sequence. There was a note on the source code “Zaihai” but that didn’t mean anything to Bowman.

Rocinante, Day Nine 2:00 am Ship Time

Sam plotted a course and moved the ship into a hard burn. The ship jumped so fast that the usual gallop down the length of the ship seemed like a stampede. To get to Regina fast would burn a lot of fuel, but they would be there in 24 hours.

In the engine room, Wolf adjusted the manifold and worked the calculations again to adjust for maximum efficiency. But the book, they were operating at about 25% above defined safety limits. But Wolf knew that she would hold. Rocinante would always hold for them.

OOC: Meeting time? And we have to get Ash to the same time as you.

Meteor Sam is Sam Hawkes. Sam is the co-owner of the Lullabelle Mine which is on a comet and mines "ice" which is methane, hydrogen and other chemicals frozen. Sam Hawkes was a independent soldier who served on the Lucius Newberry, helped load the crates on to it and was left behind when the going got tough. Wolf was not on the Roc during the time they met the crew but he is the reason Kora stayed behind and Wolf got his new job. Now when the crew met him, a fellow named Ernest Ludlow showed up, tried to snatch Sam Hawkes and acted like a cold-blooded bounty hunter. Wyatt shot him in the head which made life not worth living anymore. Wolf knew Ernest from Frisco and his brother Ethan - two real bad asses. Now Ethan was part of the bank robber crew and Wyatt killed him too (I think...can't remember who killed whom). But Ernest was no bounty hunter and Ethan was a slacker who didn't do anything unless someone gave him the idea. Both were "sweet' on Brigit. Draw your own connections.

Wolf doesn't know the mines as you worked topside. Bailey kept you out of the mine to prevent you getting the disease that miner's get. Yes, Bailey could get you into the mine.

The general feeling of the miners was they loved Brigit and all she did. The married woman-folk aren't too keen on her for obvious reasons but she was accepted in general.

The folks of frisco didn't really pay much attention to Wolf as you kept to yourself and didn't make trouble. Miners stick to miners, town-folk stick to town and you were generally on the outside of any group.

Subject: It is all in the cards

The party stood for a moment, pondering the events that had just occurred. Two paths available and something that seemed to be leading down one – was it a trap?

“Perhaps I can enlighten our way.” Flynn said as he drew forth a deck of cards from his side pouch. “These are the tool of my people for telling of fortunes and predicting the future. Although I make no claim of clairvoyance, they have guided my path to safety before.” He crouches on the floor, shuffling the deck and then puts down seven cards in a cross pattern on the floor. “All major arcane, I might have guessed,” he mumbles, and then casts a card to the east and another to the south. The one to the south shows a man at a table with a scroll in hand and items on a table before him – The Magician. To the east is a tower, with a lightening bolt crashing down to render the building in half and occupants being cast down from the heights – The Tower.

“That is very clear for a reading.” Flynn says standing again, “Wisdom and knowledge lies to the south while destruction and chaos await us to the east.”

“I’ll take Wisdom then over the chaos.” Arien says, “Dapple, check the door our host is leading us toward. Maximus – stand ready to open the door.”

The corridor to the south has three doors, two on the left and right across from each other and another at the end. Dapple checks the right side for traps and then nods to Maximus. The gladiator steps forward to open the door, with weapon at ready as Dapple moves back to the shadows.

The room is a library, a very large library with books and scrolls on shelves that go head to toes on all available walls. Toward the back of the room near the far wall is a large desk with a few book on it, a ink pot, a stand with quills, and a tall wooden chair. There is a musty smell in this room that one associates with paper and dust. There is no one in the room and no signs of anyone passing within.

As the party enters the room to look around, everyone gets a feeling of safety and protection – as if the tension of the temple and the mission has been left behind in the corridor. Kilgim knows this feeling, having felt it before in temples and churches – the room is a protected sanctuary. Even Sunset, who has been on edge since entering the temple, seems to relax on Dapple's shoulder.

As you start to look around for things that might be of interest, suddenly one of the books on the desk opens and the cover makes a loud noise as it hits the desk. *CRASH* The pages flip violently and then settle – opened to about three quarters through the tome’s content. There was no wind to cause it to open, and no one was close enough to touch the book.

As I am npcing Arien right now, I will be playing him as following the party lead or what is obvious. if it comes down to a real decision I will poll the party members here and then do whatever Char decides.

Kidding.... What the party wants by majority. if it is a tie, what Char decides.
