Into Town, 4:00 pm

“I have never had a dream come true before, until now,” James Blake said, expecting the woman before him to blush humbly and perhaps turn her head, which was an opening from a quick kiss and then he was in…

“Mighty pretty words… almost as pretty as dem shoes.” The young man with the milk bottle said as he let out a little cough. James Blake didn’t look over at the offensive boy but remained fixed on Willow. He had already summed up this kid as a possible rival for the affections of the ladies in town. James could always pay one of the local boys to mess up his face if he was too much of a rival.

Merciful Buddha,” Willow breathed,” I’ll bet that line works wonders with all the girls around here,” she continued lightly.

“Huh?” Blake mouthed rather stupidly.

“Don’t worry, love, I don’t mind”, she breathed gently, her voice curling around him, “you’ll do just fine.” She moved into his arms and James was content, even if she wasn’t acting in a way he was expecting.

“You don’t mind if I switch partners for this part of the dance, do you, Captain-San? James here is going to tell me all about himself, and how much people around here look up to him, aren’t you, honey?”

“Huh? Yeah. Of course I will my dear.” James replied like he wasn’t sure.

All right, Mr. Blake,” one of the men asked, “I appreciate your message-bearing skills an’ all. Now, might ya be willin’ to impress me something more by tellin’ me where ol’ J.W. is?”

“JW? I don’t rightly know. I imagine he’s around here somewhere. No place else to go.”

Doc McGuire shook his head, “Don’t think to hard on it Jimmy. You might hurt yourself.” And then to Wyatt, “Like I was saying, try the Lawrence first.”

(Assuming you will pack up and head to the Lawrence Saloon using the streets and not through the Tong’s backyard again)

Wyatt and Asher take the lead as James and Willow follow behind, arm in arm. James seems to be doing a lot of talking, prompted by the occasional question or comment from Willow.

As soon as you approach the streets of the town, people start to see you and greet you with big smiles.

“Good Afternoon Sheriff.”

“Howdy Sheriff. Mighty nice to have you in town.”

“Sheriff. Good to see you.”

I baked my special apple pie for you sheriff! Just to make you fell comfy here.”

(you can choose your response to them)

As you round a corner, a man sees you and starts moving towards you. He is an older gentleman, well dressed in a tweed suit that has seen better (and thinner) days. He has a mustache and wears a bowler style hat. “Excuse me! Sheriff! Charles Caesar of the Frisco Star. I was wondering if I could have an interview, or a few moments of your time for some questions?
(assuming a “I’m not the sheriff” response)

“Right. Right.” The man says as he writes something down on a pad of paper. “Holding out for more money, I gitcha ya. So is JW offering a salary or is it a per head caught basis? Where are you from? How’d you get here? What made you choose the lawman style of life? Are you married? Do you have family settling here? If you are a bachelor, let me tell you there are some many of a fine lady readers of my paper that would be interested. Is this fine young man your deputy? Jimmy! How do you know the sheriff? And who might this fine lovely lady be? Are you related to the sheriff? ”

(Charles will hound you with question and never quite get that you are not the sheriff. He will follow you as far as the Lawrence but won’t go in)

James and Willow, 4:00 pm

Willow engages her escort in conversation, letting him talk as mush as he cares and leading the topics to where she can find the most benefit. James Blake is not a man of great depth unfortunately, mostly spending his time spending his parent’s money and chasing women. He complains a lot about his parents holding him back on this dustball of a world, but has no real incline toward a particular profession. (Shame because he might have made a good…not bad…somewhat decent companion) He doesn’t want to inherit the bank – a fate worse than death in his books. His goals and dreams are mostly the travel the “verse to get away from his parents, but to do it in their bankroll. He mentions that his father was a minor clerk for a major bank and his mother was a Saloon girl once. His mother convince John to set the bank up here and has been running things ever since - better to be the big fish in a small pond than a small fish in the ocean.

On JW, he shows a certain admiration and confesses a suspicion that JW is his father, not John Blake. (His facial features have too much Blake in them for this to be true). JW bought the mine for a song before the war, and then afterwards when everything was over, found silver. The Consortium has been trying to squeeze him out every since (hence the blockade).

Brigit – he clams up tight. Obviously he is smitten with her, and you are sure that Brigit sent him with the message, but he gets all mysterious like when you ask about her. He slips up a few time and mentions a “mission” that she is on. You start to suspect James thinks Brigit is some sort of secret agent spy, like from the holoflicks – with he watches a lot of them.

The Lawrence Saloon 4:30 pm

Upon entering the Saloon, the first thing you notice is the grand mirror behind the bar. It is a fancy beveled edged mirror that goes the entire length of the bar. It seems a bit much for the place until you soon realize that because of the mirror, it is impossible for anyone to sneak up behind anyone. The mirror reflects the entire saloon, no matter where you are sitting.

The room is moderately full, mostly miner folk clustered around a table near the back where JW sits along with Bailey and two other men you do not recognize. Brigit is nowhere to be seen, nor is Cora and the banker. There is a woman sitting at the bar alone, long blonde hair reaching down her back from under her wide brimmed hat. She is drinking Wild Turkey by the shot, and the bottle in front of her is three quarter empty. She wears twin pearl handled peacemakers on her waist, and a bandolier over her shoulder with bullets in the straps. You are met at the door by what appears to be the young lady that Asher had met in the ship, only this lady ain’t crying but greets you with a sincere and happy smile. “Howdy gents! Take a seat wherever you can and I would be happy to serve you. Say? Are you that new sheriff? Shiny! I’ll make sure I use the extra clean cups for you hahaha.” And she leaves you to find your way into the room.
(assuming you head directly to JW)

Wyatt approached the senator, “J.W., I’m sorry to be interruptin’ your evenin’ activities, but there’s a small matter that needs addressin’ before the shadows get too long.”

JW looks up from his cards and nods a greeting while putting down his hand of three ace and two eights. The others throw down their cards in disgust. “We need to talk.” He says.

“Our man was on his way t’ the bank with yer pretty miss to receive payment fer our…delivery. We’d already arranged with Miss Brigit for the pick up, but I’m gonna need the payment ‘fore that can go down—a matter of one thousand credits. I’m sure you understand. We appreciate all that’s been done since, and ‘afore, but a man can’t run a business by lettin’ things like that slide.”

The senator scuffles while you speak but watches you the entire time. He nods his head and says, “I see your point and I was gonna take care of this tonight. But I can see the issue burning in your head.” He looked over to where James and Willow were sitting and makes an odd shake of the head like he isn’t sure of what he is seeing. Then takes the chips in front of him and shuffles most of his stack into another pile before pushing them towards Wyatt. “You can cash them in at the bar, or if you’d like, take a seat, get a drink and join us.” He says with a smile and offers a shot glass for the whiskey bottle on the table. “You’re welcome too Kid, if you’d like.” He says to Asher. “But you’ll have to get your own stack.”

The Doc’s Place, 4:30 pm

Sam woke up from the drug-induced dream to the mechanical yet feminine voice telling him to stay still. An older man came over to see him and laughed gently, “Yeah, She is a pushy thing, but she’ll be done with you in a short time. You are healing nicely Mr. Dash. By the way, I’m Doctor McGuire and I helped Miss Willow patch you up. That some doctor you have taking care of you Mr. Dash, although I’m not sure why she bandaged your face, cause it ain’t hurt, but we all have our reasons, I’m sure. So how are you feeling? Any pain? You have about another two hours or so to go and then you should just rest here over night. Wolf is outside to keep an eye on you, which is good because I’m an early to bed, early to rise, kind of doctor.”

Three months pass through the city of Freegate and with them go the summer warmth and bright skies. Autumn comes quickly in the mountains and the days shorten while the nights begin to become brisk and that much longer. Although the first frost is not upon you, the festivals and the feasts of autumn are flourishing through the city, a last hurrah against the coming winter months. The streets are filled with sounds of singing and dancing and the air pungent with the smells of foods of all kinds.

But against this background of frivolity and joy, Dwan has called you all back to the citadel. You gather in his meeting hall, the same people that undertook the quest of the tower. Arien the knight, Maximus the gladiator, Adrian the battle mage, Char the ranger, and Kilgim, the dwarven healer who has saved your lives so many time. In the darkest corner of the room sits Dapple, wrapped in his cloak and with Sunset the pseudo-dragon hiding deep within his hood. Those of you, who wish to, are socializing, chatting about what has gone on within the last three months. Anyone who approaches the young rogue will notice a healing black eye and a sour expression.

Dwan enters the room, with his servant Terrin, and followed by the Archmage Gwanele. A fourth man also entered, close to Archmage, but slows to look around the room. He is a large man, dark brown hair, close to 6 feet tall and very physically fit. He is a very attractive man, and carries himself with an air of self-confidence and style. Dressed in boots and breeches crafted from supple doeskin and a heather-grey tunic surmounted by a deep blue vest and a wine coloured knee length coat – he looks like a travelling minstrel or a bard, but has no apparent instrument. However the arcane symbols embroidered into his coat and vest, hinting at an intimate knowledge of the powers of magic suggest a mage. On his shoulder is perched a black bird that flicks its head to everyone nervously. The single most striking features about him are his eyes, which are amber in colour and very intense. He sits with the rest of the party, facing Dwan and the archmage.

The dwarven leader clears his throat and begins, “Thank you to those of you who answered my call willingly.” He looks over at Dapple with an expression of annoyance, “And welcome to those who I had to pull some strings to have brought here. Incidentally, young man, bail and property damage is coming out of your share of this mission payment.”

Terrin comes around and hands out drinks to everyone. You all find that even though the dwarf didn’t ask you what you wanted, the drink you received is precisely what you desired. Without a word, Terrin rolls out a cart with warm meats, bread, and an assortment of fresh fruit.

“Terrin, before you go, could you get me …” Dwan says and Terrin reaches under the cloth of the trolley and pulls out several maps to hand to the leader.

“Okay gentleman, let’s get down to business.” The dwarven leader begins, “This is Mathius Rath, a mage of vast power who has served the Iron League before. I have asked him to join you on this particular mission because of the possible arcane threat involved. I trust him as I do all of you so please welcome as an addition to the team.
“Now that that is settled, we have a town and farming community to the south east of here called Hevlorn. The town is having a problem and has asked for help. Started with cattle – one or two disappearing in the night, no trace, no carcass, nothing. Then, very recently, people disappeared - young women mostly but a few boys as well.”

Dwan took a drink from his horn again, “What you need to understand is this isn’t the first time for this in Hevlorn. About a hundred…no about a hundred and fifty years ago, the lands of Hevlorn were governed by an Archmage Zephur, formerly of Freegate. He was given the fiefdom as a reward for services rendered and was to retire there. But, Zephur was feeling his age and began to worry about death – a fatal obsession with people who can command magic. Long story short – he cracked, went undead and began to terrorize the town.”

“Please Dwan!’ Gwanele said intensely, “You make it sound so …common.”

“Do I?” the dwarven leader shrugged.

“Indeed. Zephur did not ‘go undead’. In the attempt to alter the length of his life, he compromised his integrity and used magic that was and is forbidden. As a result, he channelled the energy of the negative plane and developed a taste for flesh – live flesh.”

“Like I said, he went undead. No matter how you phrase it, the pattern is the same. Started with cattle, and then moved on to young women and men. Any reason for the predilection for young humans?”

Gwanele nodded, “More life force in their blood. Those that hunt the night seek the purity of youth.”

“Anyway. Last time this happened, we got a party of men just like you and they went to Hevlorn, stormed the castle, killed Zephur and his abominations and then burned the castle to the ground. After that, we had clerics consecrate the grounds and holy water scattered throughout. Zephur’s body was burned, mixed with holy water and dumped into running water – which I was told at the time would mean he couldn’t possibly come back. So here we are, one hundred and fifty years later and it is starting again.”

“I wasn’t around then,” Gwanele adds, “But according to our records, a warrior of the group fell in combat to Zephur. It is possible that the man rose afterwards as undead and has spent the last century building power.”

“Or it could be a group of bandits or Imp deserters using the past as a cover for whatever they are doing. Gods know I have seen a lot of that lately. Either way, we want you people to go to Hevlorn and find out what is going on, and then stop it. You will be given the usual reward, plus healing potions and few other goodies. By the way, Arien – the smiths have fixed your shield. It is as good as new, if not better and we’ll make sure you get it before you leave.”

“Any questions?” Gwanele asks, standing up to denote the end of the briefing.

“Hold on Gwanele.” Dwan says seriously, “Tell them the other stuff.”

Gwanele looks at Dwan and at the party, then back at Dwan. “It really doesn’t concern the mission.”

“They are risking their lives for me; I won’t send them in without knowing everything. You know that. They have met those possessed by demons in both missions. They found the crystals. They are tied to this somehow and you know it.”

The archmage sighed ruefully, “How much do any of you know about the Elven blood wars?”

OOC: I am going stop here to allow you to post thoughts, questions or comments you may wish to make. As to the Elven blood wars – all you know are the legends. First one was with the Demoness Lolth and created the drow or dark elves.and forever split the high elves from the grey and the wood elves. The second was with Azazel the Shadow Dragon Demon and created the shadow elves, and tore the eastern world apart, the ruins of which formed the Empire and its hatred of elves. It is all ancient history, many thousands of years ago. I will PM any special knowledge to people.

(let's see, 1000 credits. Minus property damage to the band, personal suffering, loss of income, physical hardship)

Hello

Blammm has decided not to join us in cwwllo because of RL issues and time getting scarce. So we will be going in wth the same group of players and only one different character. I will dial back the number of monster since you will not have the second walking first aid kit.

I hope to get this game going soon. I have to raise you all a level but you won't be dropped into combat immediately so I plan to start up this weekend.

Plan to...we shall see reality.

Weekend is coming. So if you'd like to post ... do so. From what I am seeing and hearing, Wyatt, Asher and Willow will head to the Lawrence (with perhaps James Blake providing an escort for Willow). You will be looking for JW and if he is not there, try his house, the schoolhouse or look for a parade.

Wolf will work on the mule and keep an eye on things at the Doc's place.

Sam is gonna lie back and let himself heal while waiting for someone to reach out and kill him.

Once payment is done, or at least worked out, the miners will come to the ship tonight to pick up the stuff.

If I missed something or messed up a step, let me know.

2) reveal plans for world domination
3) show agent where self destruct button is.
4) put agent into simplistic death trap

Tann is bogged down with RL right now and will be very brief in his posts for a bit. So you may want to keep the mechanics involvement to a minimum unless you deem it very necessary.

Sam can awake up and be aware of his surrounding. I believe I sent you a pm about what he is strapped to at the moment.

Waves .... Cathy asked me the same thing. The way I figure it, these are just like emails. They are not person to person so you do not have to be on the ship. You could use the Doc's set up to access the message.

However:
1) Wyatt hasn't mentioned the messages to anyone.
2) if you access the message from a cortex terminal without a black box on it, and a good BB, then others can grab the signal if they know how and when.

Subject: No, Mr. Blake, I expect you to ....

“Now, Doc,” Wyatt turned his attention to the old man. “I also gotta offer my appreciation for your care of my crew. Like I said, I’m scraping the bottom of the barrel when it comes to credits, but I never leave a debt unpaid, so name yer price an’ I’ll see to it you get paid.”

“Haha,” the doctor laughed, “Nothing to worry about Captain Wyatt. I’m on retainer by the mine as their doctor on call, and I figure if you are hauling miner’s stuff, it’s all under the same roof. If I ever need a Transport though, I’ll keep you in mind.”

“I got two more things t’ ask, Doc. Where do you think I can find J.W., and would you mind if Sam and Wolf stick around until we get back?”

JW? Well he’s just got came back from some parliamentary visit, which means that Cora and her Ladies Auxiliary have a days worth of parades and speeches and tea parties that they’d like JW to be part of, willing or otherwise. If he can manage to dodge them, he’ll likely as not be at the Lawrence Saloon. Nice place, clean, but it is a miner’s watering hole and the good ladies of this town would never set foot in there. Otherwise, his house is on the Sweetside, closest to the Schoolhouse. Him and Miss Brigit may escape there to get reacquainted if you catch my meaning. As for your men, I would say that Mr. Dash will be my guest for the night. The knitter will fix him up well enough but ribs can be a touchy thing and I’d prefer him to rest as much as possible. Any of your other crew are welcome to stay with me as long as they like. Don’t get company much though so I’m a bit rusty with conversation.”

“That’s right good of ya, Doc.”

At that moment there is a knock on the front door. The doctor turns around to go answer it, leaving you for a moment. After a brief time, he returns with a young man, around 20 years old. He is tall, around 6 feet, with black hair, well care for, and a very handsome face (Picture: a young Pierce Brosnan). He is dressed in a formal black suit, tailor made, his hands are clean, manicured and look like they have never done work before in his life. He is clean shaven with a chisel jaw and soft lips. His cologne is reminiscent of jasmine flowers and a sea breeze. No gun on his belt, although the bright polish on the shine of his shoes could be considered dangerous. Both Asher and Wyatt notice the bulge under his left arm that denotes a shoulder holster for a small gun.

“Good Evening Gentlemen,” He says pleasantly, oblivious to the fact that it isn’t evening yet, “My name is Blake. James Blake. I was asked by an associate of mine to come here to inform you that the coast is now clear. The bird has flown. The owl has left the nest. The eggs are back in one basket. The Alliance ship just….” His voice trails off as he spots Willow. Once he sees her, it is like no one else is in the room except her and him. His eyes take in the doctor with a smouldering desire, and his lips curl into a smile that is both dashing and demure at the same time. He walks directly over to Willow, looking deep into her eyes and says, “I have never had a dream come true before, until now.”

OOC: I was going to move forward a bunch but decided to let everyone reply to Wyatt and throw some eye candy at Willow. I'm a bad man.

Thank you to everyone for the well wishes. It is a bittersweet birthday as I also face returning to work and putting William into daycare now. I enjoyed my thee months of paternity leave and wish I could stay off longer.

Anyway, here's to 42. It is the ultimate number to us Adam's fans.

You own a Firefly - there is no locked up tight, not even in space. One of your ship's flaw is "everyone got one" which means everyone knows how to override the locks, the hatches etc.

Think about how often Serenity got boarded....

Oh .. don't forget There are two wave messages waiting on the ship, one for Willow (coded) and one for Sam (double matrix coded with a sig key link).

Subject: A few notes

I would like to advance Roc forward this holiday weekend to the point of the Ice being picked up by the miners at night. It is currently about 3:30 pm planetside, and it will be dark by 9:00 pm (which is when the miners will arrive).

So please let me in on any plans you have between those times for sneaking about or surfing the cortex or whatever. Post here or in the game (game preferred)so I can start rolling dice and drinking whiskey.

I am sure you are all aware but just to refresh:

1) You have not been paid for this job.
2) The people picking up the Ice won't know you have not been paid.
3) Your method of payment is currently fried as Sander's chicken.(another thing that Wolf might want to do - go back to bank and see what happened and how dirtback robbers got into a vault so quickly)
3) You will need to keep a low profile for awhile in case there are alliance moles/sympathizers among the townies.
4) Sam is laid up for the night but will be conscious soon (about two hours). The knitter will finish its work around midnight (assuming Sam doesn't move around alot. If he does, the machine will tell him in a feminine, but mechanical voice - "please stay still, it is necessary for proper healing that there is as little motion as possible" and then repeat in mandarin.)
